The Tegernsee (in English: "Lake Tegernsee"), viewed towards the little town of Rottach-Egern on the lake’s southern bank from the little town of Tegernsee on the lake’s southeastern bank, Bavaria, Germany

Some background information:

The Tegernsee is a so-called tongue-basin lake in the Bavarian Alps in southern Germany. The lake is the centre of a popular recreation area 50 kilometres (31 miles) south-east of Munich. Communities on the lake include the eponymous Tegernsee, as well as Bad Wiessee, Kreuth, Gmund, and Rottach-Egern.

The lake is some 6.5 kilometres (4.0 miles) in length, 1.4 kilometres (0.87 miles) across at its widest, and spans an area of 8.934 square kilometres (3.449 square miles). It reaches a maximum depth of 72.6 metres (238 feet), with an average depth of 36.3 metres (119 feet). Its normal water level is 725.5 metres (2,380 feet) above sea level. The lake flows into the River Mangfall, a tributary of the River Inn and thence the River Danube.

The name of the lake was first recorded in the form of "Tegarin Seo" in 746, when the princely brothers Oatkar and Adalbert founded a monastery at the lake. In Old High German "Tegarin Seo" means "great lake." However, a 19th-century historical source traces the name back to the tribe of the Tigurini, which used to be one out of four sub-tribes of the Helvetii.

During the last Ice Age, known as the Würm glaciation, the Tegernsee tongue of the Inn Glacier extended far north into the plain, reaching its maximum extent about 20,000 years ago. Through its erosive forces, the glacier created a tongue basin, which later filled with water. The elongated shape of Lake Tegernsee clearly reveals this glacial morphological origin.

Around 10,000 years ago, the ice and snow masses in the pre-Alpine region began to melt, and the Tegernsee basin became ice-free. The flat shore area in the south was filled in by sediments from the Rottach and Weißach rivers, and the shore areas on the longitudinal sides near Tegernsee and Bad Wiessee are debris cones and alluvial fans from the inflowing streams.

At that time, the lake's area was about twice its current size, and the water level was approximately 15 meters higher than today. Over the initial deposits of rocks and gravel, a layer of soil slowly formed, which provided the conditions for a tundra-like flora. Over time, a closed mountain-mixed forest zone of spruces, beeches, and firs developed.

This densely forested mountain world around Lake Tegernsee offered little incentive for human settlement. A bronze needle from the early Bronze Age was found beneath the northern choir wall of Tegernsee Monastery, indicating that people passed through the region at that time, but there is no evidence of early settlement at Lake Tegernsee.

It was not until the beginning of the 6th century that the history of Lake Tegernsee began, as the tribal confederation of the Bavarians emerged as a political entity and the Agilolfing dynasty solidified their claim to power. The history of Lake Tegernsee is closely linked with that of the monastery of the same name. In the 8th century, the monastery was the only landowner around Lake Tegernsee and hence, oversaw the clearing and development of the land.

Today, Lake Tegernsee represents an important economic factor for tourism and health services offered around the lake for the surrounding communities. Every year, about 6.5 million day visitors and 2.5 million overnight stays are recorded. In addition to recreational tourism, conference and seminar tourism is becoming increasingly important.

As a residential area, the beautiful nature around Lake Tegernsee and its good reachability from the city of Munich has attracted more and more millionaires as well as multimillionaires. Already during the Nazi era, several Nazi officials, such as Heinrich Himmler and Max Amann, owned properties at Lake Tegernsee. In the 1960s the lake’s nickname "Lago di Bonzo" (in English: "Lake of the big shots") became established.

But today, the situation has even become worse. The demand for housing at Lake Tegernsee remains high, resulting in astronomically high real estate prices. Prices for vacation homes are even the highest in the German Alpine region and just the premises for single-family homes in the first row by the lake are offered for up to 10 million euros by local real estate agencies. Hence, the dream of a house at Lake Tegernsee will always be unrealisable for most Germans. Fortunately, I myself do not dream this dream.

No matter how bitter things get in the middle of a sibling rivalry, your brother will never forget that deep down that they truly love you.

In many things you will fight against each other, but when you find yourself enclosed by the problems the world is putting on you, your brother will stand with you 'till the end.

Evidently this is a Red Milkweed Beetle. Not on milkweed here, obviously, but he there are many milkweed plants nearby, and evidently the young live underground and eat milkweed roots, hence the name.

Story:

In the North, autumn hindered the war greatly because of the changeable temperature, and in the South, the rebellion was just beginning to strengthen its position. To undermine the government, the rebels staged an attack on a small but wealthy village. They did not even know that the king had sent a vassal with soldiers to collect tribute that day. Crumbled leaves, the hint of arms and the blood flowed. Who will hold the South?

During the construction of the nuclear power plant Dukovany three villages were demolished. Skryje, Lipnany and Hermanice. This is the chapel of the village Lipnany.

Во время строительства атомной электростанции Дукованы были снесены три деревни. Skryje, Lipnany и Heřmanice.

Rozuměli tomu, my ne! Taky jeden Armén Dyma, ten nenáviděl Brežněva víc než my. No a pak to zbourali vše. No a to je celý.

Changing leaves and a surprise October snowfall. Very dark, overcast day and snowing lightly,

Sorry for so many photos. Unusual October snowfall and temps below freezing. Average is about 60F. More ice and snow then heavy rain possible in a day or so, then temps back to average over the weekend, crazy!
