3/14/25 - Chris Baron @ The Rosebud Theatre, Roseburg, Oregon, USA

Here’s my Chris Redfield “action figure”. I always had a weird crush on this character as a teenager despite never playing any of the games he’s in, but hey he hits all the right points for me with his stubble and muscles lmao.

Though while I’m a little put off by hyper realistic action figures I guess the main issue is knowing that most of them are based on actual people while this guy is still fictional to me lol.

Anyway I sprayed his body with MSC to take the shine off and I’m really happy how these parts match up lol.

Who knows if this will be the last of my hyper realistic figures but I’m incredibly happy just to own this guy for now.

My work with Chris

A visit to our annual village show gave me some opportunity to add to my stranger project. Being there early meant I could approach some of the stall holders before their time was taken up with serving customers.

Chris and Angela (see my next stranger) were selling ice cream from their Pashley Tricycle under the company name of Yesteryear Ice Cream. They are mainly hired for weddings, corporate events, festivals and special occasions. They have been doing this for the last two years.

I decided to use the side of their gazebo as a background – this also became a convenient wind-break as it was quite a gusty day. The cloud cover produced soft light which was perfect for keeping detail in the lighter tones of Chris’ outfit.

I asked Chris what his guilty pleasure was and he quickly said aviation, he then expanded on that and told me he flies a gyrocopter.

Thank-you Chris for agreeing to be a stranger for me. I hope you like your portrait.

This picture is number 317 in my 100 Strangers project, yes, I’ve decided to do a fourth round. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

A photograph I took of the wonderful photographer Chris Killip, taken while he was working on his Irish book. Image was made on top of Croagh Patrick in Mayo Ireland on Reek Sunday about 17 years ago. Have read recently Chris is about to retire from his teaching post in Harvard. I wish him well. A lovely friendly man, in his hand is a Plaubel Makina, he also had a nice black Leica with him. Nikon FM2 55mm lens and Ilford HP5.

Chris sadly passed away on 13th October 2020, may he rest in peace.
