After spotting this interesting painted street graphic, I had to wait about fifteen minutes for just the right person with the right shoes to pass by.
“The Peace of Wild Things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”
― Wendell Berry, The Selected Poems of Wendell Berry

Normally, bull elk are sniffing the other end of cows to determine if they're receptive to mating. But this bull decided the direct frontal approach might work.

For the ones who have been following for a long time, you know how much I like experiencing with blur effect in a natural way, meaning not in photoshop but only by the way I positioned myself. Yesterday I had the chance to photograph this gorgeous Morning Dove at a very close range. It took me at least 45 minutes to get to that range just a bit at a time. She or he was sitting on a log covered by snow and at times, looking for food through the snow. Going through all my images helped me analyzed how I can do it better and found a few things I had not noticed in the past. So in the future, I will position myself that way for a lighter background which gives you the impression of a fog all around the subject. If I had not tried different things, I would have never found this.
When you're an Anna's Hummingbird with several other rivals around, it's best to check your surroundings and be ready to do battle on half a moment's notice. In our back yard in one of our grapefruit trees - a favorite perching spot this guy

These big skimmers show up here in May and September - like clockwork. Where they go in the Summer - I assume they head North. I don't see many females or immature males - check out the shadow of his cerci. North Georgia
WEATHER: Hope everyone is safe from New England to the cold dipping into South Florida. Cold night to 24o with winds howling, but my Yellow-throated warbler made it to Day 33!

There were some check dams on Torigoe river. I was impressed by an engineering work of them.

I think I remember checking in.
Her skinny arm stretches out to me, pale and blue-skinned with fragile veins, pointing straight at me. In her hand, palm facing up, is a beautiful assortment of pills - all shapes and sizes, colorful like candy.
Candy? hmmm....
My blurry eyes try to focus on her name tag. I THINK it reads "Candy." Fumbling, I reach out and grab a few and swallow them dry. She smiles...a slow, sinister smile, but in a wretched way, approvingly.
"Come this way," she guides me behind the front desk. "I assure you, you'll feel much better once they take effect." Her jagged, red fingernails scratch the skin on my arm as she grips me tightly, half-dragging me down the corridor. I have no idea where she's taking me, and I don't care.
Moments later, they take effect, and I sigh dreamily.....slipping off into nothingness.
Ahh........I like candy.
