Berkeley researchers embarked on a 10-day voyage aboard research vessel Oceanus to put their Carbon Flux Explorer robots to the test. The project, funded by the National Science Foundation, will shed light on how microscopic organisms process ocean carbon. The following photos provide a window into the work it takes to get the robotic floats into the water - and back again.

A CF&E GP38-2 and CF&E SD40T-2 await a train to bring east to Fort Wayne at IHB's Blue Island Yard

An eastbound Chicago Ft. Wayne and Eastern grain train hits the diamond at Dunkirk, Ohio on the EX PRR Ft Wayne Line. Daytime movements are fairly rare on the CF&E and this is the only train I have ever shot on the line. The Florida East Coast leader was part of pooled Rail America Power.
