“What kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. Something huge, terrible, and glittering—a world of steel and concrete, of monstrous machines and terrifying weapons.” – George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty Four
*********************************************************************************************************
It’s been a while since I opened up Photoshop for a bit of cheeky image editing, so here’s the latest experimental result! This one depicts a very British dystopia. George Orwell remains an infinitely quotable chap for this sort of subject, and I highly recommend his thought-provoking literary works. 'Nineteen Eighty Four' was a truly visionary undertaking – it foreshadowed the concept of a surveillance society long before the development of modern day technologies that would make it all possible.
Britain is leading the world when it comes to CCTV. It has one and a half times as many surveillance cameras as communist China. The exact number of them in the UK is not known but an estimate in 2002 counted the figure at well over four million. The methodology of collecting such statistics is rather vague but reasonable research suggests that our country now has one camera for every 14 people.
The security infrastructure being created, whilst valid in many respects, presents a plethora of worrying possibilities. The coupling of CCTV cameras with facial recognition algorithms that track people through crowds, read registration plates and log all this data for future use is handy for current civil enforcement but leaves the door open for the state of the future to have profound levels of control over society.

A small area of surficial damage near the upper right corner of the image does not detract.
This particular scene/demonstration appears to commence at the 10:48 mark:

In a correct call by NASA, a United States Army Soldier is handling the Stars & Stripes, albeit indirectly. I suppose a Marine would’ve also been capable/acceptable. And to a lesser degree, in a pinch, a shipmate. Definitely not Air Force. 😉
My assertion confirmed at the 10:03 mark in the above linked video. That is a smart zero-g EVA salute, the arm/elbow extension, hand placement & sharp snap to conclude it. Well executed, as is expected by a U.S. Army Soldier…Hooah.
Previous owner's have removed the old acid etched window's and interior features by attempting to trendify the place but again they have failed.
For years there was a large photograph of the locals (1940's) on display and my grandmother was one of them, that too was no doubt thrown in a skip in the 1990's.
Four day's after this photograph was taken a young man of 17yr's was stabbed to death on this site. He was (to date) the 29th person to be killed as a result of knife crime in London in 2017.

LR1995
Ca. 1964 photograph of mobility testing, using Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) Training Model-1 (TM-1) at Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation’s (GAEC) Bethpage, NY facility. Some very interesting – to me – things to note in this photograph:
- The astronaut visible standing up, through the overhead docking hatch. Possibly practicing conducting a Stand-up Extravehicular Activity (SEVA)? I have no idea if such was a consideration in 1964; however, at the time I could see it being considered prudent. In fact, his right-hand is on what looks like an alternating rung/step observation mast, maybe. If so, that’s too cool! Although maybe not so prudent. Or is it an antenna? If that, mounted at the lip of the docking hatch/tunnel? Strictly some sort of training aid?
- I’ve never seen this before in this ‘family’ of photographs…a free-standing external LEM cockpit interior mockup, visible immediately next to the ascent stage RCS quadrant on the right. ‘Instrumentation’ can even be discerned on the central display panel. Although, upon a relook, this structure is visible in my previous posting of the TM-1 descent stage. However, it was unrecognizable to me, as the central display panel had yet to be added.
- On the far left, another first seen…what appears to be a sub-scale engineering/test model of the LEM/LM. Possibly used for drop tests? I don’t think I’ve ever seen any LEM model with such a ring-shaped mass simulator? Fascinating. Behind it appear to be other smaller unidentifiable components on display as well.
- To the right of those, also in the background, is Space Technology Laboratories’ (STL) Lunar Excursion Module Descent Engine (LMDE)/Descent Propulsion System (DPS) mockup. Further to the right & nearer the camera is North American Aviation (NAA), Rocketdyne division’s mockup of the same.
- Finally, between the two engines are displayed…IDK…photographs of engine/exhaust plumes of said engines???
- Other cool stuff that are more regularly seen. Although I still don’t know what all the oxygen? bottles are. Maybe for the suited astronaut? Was it a closed loop ECS system?
Good stuff.

"Endemic surveillance"
"Simon Davies, the director of Privacy International- "This is not just about technology and data-gathering but about how our democracy is performing compared with the new democracies of central and eastern Europe.
With technologies that are large-scale, taken for granted and often invisible, surveillance is increasingly everywhere.
We describe techniques such as automatic classification and risk-based profiling as "social sorting" which can create real problems for individuals — social exclusion, discrimination and a negative impact on their life chances."

(Apologies to the man who I saw standing in almost the exact same spot yesterday, pointing his camera upwards - I returned today and totally stole his idea.)
I worked from home this morning, and Tim also worked from home all day. Our kitchen cupboard doors were delivered at 8am. Very exciting! We also finally chose our paint for the kitchen today, and Tim went and bought it while I was back in the office this afternoon. Itching to get started on it all now...!
I set off for work at lunchtime, and forgot to get off my train at London Bridge - oops - so ended up having to catch the tube from Waterloo, and then wolf my lunch down quickly before a meeting at 2pm. Had a good afternoon though, and got a few more things ticked off my to-do list - and even got out on time this evening.
The theme this week is 'Graffiti'. I didin't really get to any urban areas apart from this business park where some cheeky little b'stard has tagged the building literally under the eye of not one but two CCTV cameras.
I added the grunge in Snapseed to give the image a more gritty look, but I am not 100% sure it was the right way to go.
Some #securitytips for making Your house more #secure
1. Change the Locks
Change all the locks when you move into a new house. You’ll never know who had access to the keys before you moved in.
2. Install an #AlarmSystem
Home alarm systems immediately inform emergency authorities and warn homeowners of any potential dangers. Hearing an alarm go off usually sends a burglar running. At www.koacctv.com we have best offers at best price.
3. Conceal All Wiring
For the most effective #alarm_system, conceal all wiring. A professional burglar looks for places where he or she can disconnect the security system.
4.Light Up the Entrance to Your Home
A smart way to keep thieves away is to utilize lighting. Lighting with an #infrared_detector automatically turns on when someone is in a specific zone or area. No burglar wants to be in easy view while committing a crime.
5. Protect Your Windows
Burglars often gain entry into homes through windows. Protect these vulnerable areas with window locks and/or burglar-resistant glass. Installing many small panes of glass instead of one large pain of glass is a good option as well.

...imagine...the police showing up on your birthday ringing the door bell...you open, let them in...
The officer opens his bag and takes out a CCTV image, throws it on the table and asks you with a harsh voice: "Is this your f**kin' face on my f**kin' CCTV image?"
"Ahm, ahm, ahmmmmm.... Looks like, officer..."
"Then you'll have to come with us. You are under arrest since now."
"Ahm, ahm...alright,...A last wish maybe?...Could I publish this awesome CCTV shot on flickr?"
"Yes, happy Birthday!"
