On our way to Olney, Illinois to see the white squirrels - but we ended up stopping at nearby Casey, Illinois. Why stop? Well, it was a story we heard on CBS Sunday Morning about their program - Big Things in a Small Town. So when we realized that we were there - we decided to stop. In this town off I-70, they have the world's largest rocking chair, teeter-totter, mailbox, pencil, birdcage, wind chime and some others. It was lots of fun to stop and see everything. Very clever way to attract people. Fun visit on Saturday July 27th, 2019.

On our way to Olney, Illinois to see the white squirrels - but we ended up stopping at nearby Casey, Illinois. Why stop? Well, it was a story we heard on CBS Sunday Morning about their program - Big Things in a Small Town. So when we realized that we were there - we decided to stop. In this town off I-70, they have the world's largest rocking chair, teeter-totter, mailbox, pencil, birdcage, wind chime and some others. It was lots of fun to stop and see everything. Very clever way to attract people. Fun visit on Saturday July 27th, 2019.

Portrait of Trompestist and Composer Gottfried Reiche (German; 1667 - 1734)
Gottfried Reiche was Senior City Musician and First Council Musician of Leipzig, but above all the most important trumpeter for Johann Sebastian Bach. The Thomas Cantor wrote a number of compositions for the gifted wind player, which today are among the most important pieces in music literature. The Christmas Oratorio with its sophisticated and famous trumpet parts is one of them. Rich sudden death on October 6, 1734 after the exhausting outdoor performance of the homage cantata "Prize your luck, blessed Saxony" went down in the Leipzig annals.
The portrait was done for the occasion of Reiche's 60th birthday in 1727. In it, he holds a coiled natural trumpet in his right hand and in his left hand, he holds a sheet of music manuscript on which is written a short "abblasen" or fanfare. The musical notes are depicted accurately on the painting, and the fanfare has been transcribed and performed by several artists. It has also served for many years as the theme music to the USA television show CBS Sunday Morning.

On our way to Olney, Illinois to see the white squirrels - but we ended up stopping at nearby Casey, Illinois. Why stop? Well, it was a story we heard on CBS Sunday Morning about their program - Big Things in a Small Town. So when we realized that we were there - we decided to stop. In this town off I-70, they have the world's largest rocking chair, teeter-totter, mailbox, pencil, birdcage, wind chime and some others. It was lots of fun to stop and see everything. Very clever way to attract people. Fun visit on Saturday July 27th, 2019.
