View ofCanterbury cathedral in sunset rays

Founded in 1089 as the Abbey of St. Peter, Gloucester, and raised to cathedral status at The Reformation. The nave, with its massive cylindrical columns, dates from the 12thc. The Quire, Presbytery and Ambulatory are late 11thc, but were given a Perpendicular make over in the mid 14thc. The Lady chapel and central tower are 15thc.

The cathedral was undergoing restoration at the time of my visit, so it was quite challenging to get exterior shots without scaffolding and metal fences getting in the way.

Famous for its two different spires

The one on the right-a plain pyramid 105 metres, dates from 1140

The one on the left 113 metres In the Flamboyant style dates from the early 16th Century

The first church on the site was completed in 1625. The main or central gateway is called the Portada del Perdón or the "door of forgiveness".

The cathedral has a vast interior with plenty of space

Nothing beats Worcester Cathedral on a sunny day.

Brecon Cathedral started life in 1093 as the Benedictine Priory of St John the Evangelist, built by the Normans on the site of an earlier Celtic church. At the dissolution of the monasteries in 1537 it became Brecon's Parish Church. It became a Cathedral only in 1923, on the establishment of the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon.

Looking from the north west. Unfortunately as it was Bank Holiday Monday I had to cut off the bottom of the cathedral and pretty much all of its grounds as I was trying to shoot over the heads of the crowds of people walking around.

Carlisle's red brick built cathedral stands in the centre of the centre of Cumbria's main town, and is one of the smallest in England after Oxford's Christchurch.

The building started life as an Augustinian Priory and built in the Norman style in 1122, 10 years later it's status as a Cathedral was given.

In the 13th-Century the original Choir was taken down and rebuilt in the Gothic style and is a lot wider than the former. It is known for it's East window and decorated vaulted ceiling.

The Nave is a lot shorter due to most of it being demolished to use it's stones to reinforce the nearby Castle during the Civil War.

The tower originally had a small spire which later blew down damaging the tower and North Transept, today it holds a peal of 13 bells, all newly cast in 1999 for the then approaching Millennium.

I thought about lens correcting these - but then thought better of it, as they give a better sense of scale of the place, like this.

Somebody buy me a tilt-shift lens ;)

The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception[1] (Spanish: Catedral Basílica de la Inmaculada Concepción) Also Mazatlán Cathedral Is the main religious building in the city of Mazatlan,[2] in Baroque-Revival style of Sinaloa, Mexico,[3] and home of the Catholic Diocese of Mazatlan. It is located in the historical center.

The works of the temple began in the year of 1856, by order of the then bishop Pedro Loza and Pardavé. Later, the parish priest Miguel Lacarra takes over the works and it is for this that they are concluded in the year of 1899. The consecration of the temple like basilica was realized 12 of December 1941.

It consists of basilical plant, with three naves, which have the same height. It has an octagonal dome with lantern, crowned by an iron cross. The towers are of two bodies and present shots in the form of truncated prisms, which are crowned by a cross.
