I was delighted to see close to a dozen Caspian Terns at the lake at dawn. They made two passes and left. Only a couple remained past dawn.

To far off for a good shot, I couldn't resist as it has been a very long time since I have spotted any.

This image isn't really worth posting.

One of a couple of these birds seen on this year's Ria Formosa trip. This one was on a small sandbank off the Isla Deserta. The other was fishing with an osprey in the Ludo salt lagoons.

A visit to Norfolk to see the Syke's Warbler proved unsuccessful, so we spent some time around Cromer enjoying at least 4 different Caspian Gulls.....

I took a series of photos of this tern as it dove into the pond and flew away with a Goldfish. I like this one the most because of the way its wing tip caressed the water surface. Richmond Green, Richmond Hill, Ontario

Huge, the largest of the terns with a wingspan of more than 140 centimeters, in the image you can see the enormous length of the wings. Always scarce, cosmopolitan, strange and enigmatic, the Caspian tern (Hydroprogne caspia)

I never saw Caspian terns so early in the season, not even common terns are around - but those are late.

While taking photos of shorebirds out on the beach, I also noticed a small group of Caspian Terns. Seemed to be young ones waiting for something. One adult Tern showed up with a small fish and paraded it back and forth among the group, then singled out one and led it away from the rest and fed the fish to him. I didn't actually see the transfer as the bird's back was to me, but next thing I knew the youngster had the fish.

Have a great weekend everyone. We are expecting a mega weather event with lots of rain this weekend. Back on Sunday if I don't get washed away!
