"Happy Days Are Here Again," written by Milton Ager and Jack Yellen in 1929, became a powerful anthem for Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1932 presidential campaign, resonating with Americans seeking hope during the Great Depression. The original recordings of this jaunty song from the late 1920s and early 1930s usually have the sung lyrics accompanied by a banjo.
Originating out of America during the 1920s the banjo quickly gained popularity in Britain too because it was reasonably cheap as an instrument, portable, easy to learn on and musical duelling matches were played like draughts or chess.
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 21st of March is "part of a musical instrument". Whilst I do come from a very artistic family, with my parents being artists, my Grandmother a writer and poet and my Grandfather a designer, and all of us like music, because both my grandparents were forced to play the piano as children, I was not forced to do the same. Thus, when this theme came up, as I have no musical instruments of my own so to speak, I decided to resort to my large 1:12 miniatures collection, for within it I have a beautiful artisan made banjo, which I acquired from Kathleen Knight’s Doll’s House shop in the United Kingdom. It has metallic strings, and its head - the circular section of a banjo which I have chosen to make my part of a musical instrument that I am focussing on – is made of white leather. Since the banjo originated in the 1920s, I have decided to surround it by some 1:12 miniature sheet music from the 1920s made by the miniature artisan Ken Blythe. Titles include: "Taxi!" "Auto Race" "Motor Race", "Casey Jones" and "Happy Days". Anyone who follows my photostream knows that I love and collect 1:12 size miniatures which I photograph in realistic scenes. The artifice of recreating in minute detail items in 1:12 scale always amazes me, and it’s amazing how the eye can be fooled. I hope you like my choice of this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile!
The booklets of music are 1:12 size miniatures made by the British miniature artisan Ken Blythe. Known mostly for his authentic replication of books in 1:12 scale, in some cases, you can even read the words of the titles, depending upon the size of the print! I have quite a large representation of Ken Blythe’s work in my collection. In addition to books, he also made some other 1:12 miniatures from paper, including the sheets of music. What might amaze you even more is that each has the correct music inside! To create something so authentic to the original in such detail and so clearly, really does make this a miniature artisan piece. Ken Blythe’s work is highly sought after by miniaturists around the world today and command high prices at auction for such tiny pieces, particularly now that he is no longer alive. I was fortunate enough to acquire pieces from Ken Blythe prior to his death about four years ago. His legacy will live on with me and in my photography which I hope will please his daughter.
Located in Jackson, Tennessee is the Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum containing his historic home & a Railroad Museum containing many exhibits dedicated to Casey's life and famous last ride. Also available are a 35-ton locomotive, a replica version of Casey’s engine 382 and this 'sign' that is mounted many feet up in the air to be seen from nearby Interstate 40 and Highway 45 to all that pass by.
Casey Jones (for those who do not know) was a railroad engineer who lived in the 1800's and became an internationally known icon due to his heroic last ride where he saved all the passengers on his train. He slowed down the train as much as possible before impact when there was a train stalled on the tracks ahead near Vaughan, Mississippi on April 30th, 1900 on a run from Memphis to Canton, MS. He lived in Jackson, TN with his wife and three children.

Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better
Watch your speed
Trouble ahead
Trouble behind
And you know that notion
Just crossed my mind
This old engine makes it on time
Leaves Central Station
'Bout a quarter to nine
Hits River Junction at seventeen to
At a quarter to ten
You know it's travelin' again
Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better
Watch your speed
Trouble ahead
Trouble behind
And you know that notion
Just crossed my mind
Trouble ahead
A lady in red
Take my advice
You'd be better off dead
Switchman sleeping
Train hundred and two is
On the wrong track
And headed for you
Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better
Watch your speed
Trouble ahead
Trouble behind
And you know that notion
Just crossed my mind
Drive your train
Trouble with you
Is the trouble with me
Got two good eyes
But we still don't see
Come round the bend
You know it's the end
The fireman screams
And the engine just gleams
Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better
Watch your speed
Trouble ahead
Trouble behind
And you know that notion
Just crossed my mind
Driving that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you better

"- I'll never call golf a dull game again. "
A scene from the 1990 live action movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I watched this movie countless times as a kid, and it remains one of my all-time favourite movies. For what you would think was a kids-movie, it's actually pretty dark, but it also has a good dose of humor.
Casey Jones finally makes an appearance in my series! Yeah, I had to include a scene with him. Not the most exciting build today, but I felt that the scene where he rescues Splinter and kicks the crap out of Tatsu with a golf club is kind of vital to the plot of the movie, so I chose to include it. The most exciting part of this build is probably the golf bag I built which I'm actually quite happy with the look of. So, naturally it's hardly even visible in the photo, just like it's hardly visible in the movie... Ah well, time wasted building that I guess...
This is the fifth scene that I wanted to build for a contest in my LUG where we were tasked to build a set of scenes from a movie or TV series, but I didn't actually have this one built in time, I just buit it yesterday in fact :P
Just one more scene left now!
A big thanks to KillerTomato for this awesome idea for a Casey custom, I just couldn't resist buying one myself. This character needed a good figure and an adult one.
Just a snapshot of some of the many historic items on display at The Old Country Store, part of the Casey Jones Village in Jackson, Tennessee. They have some amazing antiques, thought, sadly, they have cleared many of them in favor of more dining tables and boutique style shopping these days. So, I figured I should capture and share so me history before it all disappeared. Hope you enjoy!
A Train...A Song...A Legend
Casey Jones had a reputation for being one of the best engineers on the rails. Neither he nor his fireman, Sim Webb, knew as they pulled out of Memphis with a train full of passengers that in the darkness of that Southern night a legend was waiting to be born. Casey was killed in a train wreck in Vaughan, Mississippi, April 30, 1900 at 3:52 a.m. The train had left from the Poplar Street Station in downtown Memphis, Tennessee on its way to Canton, Mississippi. He was the only one killed in the wreck. Casey stayed with the train to slow it down as much as possible and thus the lives of passengers were saved from injury and possible death. The subsequent song written of his heroism catapulted his story into international acclaim. Today in Jackson, Tennessee the historic Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum serves as a tribute to the life and legend of Casey Jones and to the men and women of the railroad.

Little late April fools on my part. just thought it might be fun (which it was)
The Old Country Store is a West Tennessee landmark. The Casey Jones Village includes the home of the famed engineer. The Store's expanded Dixie Cafe lets the traveler grab and go. Fried green tomatoes, cracklin bread and greens; as good as it gets.
Beautiful old mailbox at the Old Country Store in Jackson, Tennessee. It is part of the Casey Jones village, commemorating a time gone by and a Tennessee legend. If you could send a letter back in time ... what would it say and to whom would you send it?

I visited Disneyland yesterday, Thursday October 9, 2014. I was in the collectibles section of the World of Disney, and was immediately taken by this newly released statue of Maleficent. It is part of the Art of the Disney Theme Parks Collection, is a medium figure mostly of resin, was designed by Casey Jones, and costs $125. I bought one immediately, and will post more photos of it soon. It is very large and heavy, and has a Diablo that is flocked. It is very dramatic and Maleficent is serious and imposing.
Captured in "miniature" mode on my G 15.... didn't quite get the "mini" "HO train set" look I was hoping for but nonetheless, it came out lookin purty good...LOL!!

Disney's Electrical Parade premiered at the Magic Kingdom on June 11, 1977 and has been running on and off ever since. Disney announced in 2010 that the parade will enjoy an "open ended" run at the Magic Kingdom. Hopefully this means the Electrical parade will be around for a while. it's a bit dated, but I really enjoy it!

-->> Slight rehash,re-release, re-gifting of the 2004 4kids/ Funimation release of <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/terrible2z/3123818843" target="blank"" TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES :: "Michelangelo's Christmas Rescue" - the mix of bare-bones episodes from the 2003 series is OK, but is short by one compared to the '04 release. A good stocking-stuffer for the kids tho' if the '04 version was nothing but a ghost of Christmas past.
The cover art is style-guide work i'd previously been unfamiliar with. 4kids alumni Khary Randolph confirmed he DID NOT supply these images to Nickelodeon. Another 4kids style-guide contributor, Mirage Studio's Michael Dooney may have been the artist behind these illustrations ( they have that vibe ), no confirmation on that tho'. They may have been newer style-guide pieces commissioned by Viacom themselves. ~ t
