Another oldie from the archives. Cascade Falls framed by cedar trees in Cascade River State Park on Minnesota's North Shore just south of Grand Marais. Thanks for the comments and views!
Historically, I would argue that there were four great railroad crossings of the Cascade Range in the Pacific Northwest - Stevens, Snoqualmie and Stampede Passes in Washington, along with Pengra Pass in Oregon. In May 1987, I spent my first day taking pictures on Southern Pacific's Cascade crossing, southernmost of the four.
Our excuse for the outing was an NRHS Amtrak special that would be making a rare daytime ascent of the pass from the Willamette Valley. When we arrived in the area after a drive from Klamath Falls, the first train we encountered was this westman crossing Salt Creek Trestle near Heather siding. A recent spate of logging had cleared this vista.
Both motorists and railfans are familiar with this bridge. When winter driving conditions on Oregon Highway 58 deteriorate, a parking area under the trestle is where drivers stop to add or remove tire chains.
This may be my favorite location in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This often photographed rounded cascade is located in the Tremont section of the Park. To get this particular composition you have to perch yourself on a boulder, which you see in the foreground and get into a very low position.
My friend and I had been waiting to visit the Park until we felt the colors would be right. We hit it pretty close, perhaps being just a bit later than the peak but the colors were still great. This particular photo was taken very near to sunset so the light was very good. So overall, I'm pretty happy with the end result and I hope you enjoy it yourself.

The Nelson Falls, a cascade waterfall, is located in the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Tasmanian Wilderness, in the West Coast region of Tasmania, Australia.
Comprising 37 gilded bronze sculptures, 64 fountains and 142 water jets, the Grand Cascade descends from the terraces of the Great Palace, through the estate, and finally out into the gulf.
L'étang de Matrot est surtout connu pour sa cascade, visible depuis le bord de la route entre La Roche en Brenil et Dompierre en Morvan.
A set of 4 Union Pacific helpers just got done shoving a grain train up the 40+ mile grade of Pengra Pass in the Oregon Cascades and is now coming back down to the bottom to help shove another southbound that is patiently waiting in Oakridge. While in the rotation of motors on the system, these motors generally work as helpers in the Oregon Cascades till inspection time comes around every 90- 184 days and then replaced with other motors. With numerous trips a day shoving trains up the hill, through 21 tunnels and several snowsheds each run, it is not uncommon to find these units covered in grime towards the end of their session on the Cascade Line. The more darker color adds a different touch from the average yellow you see everyday through here. Taken at the well know bridge over highway 58 and Salt Creek. Heather Siding.

This small village nestled in a bend of the Tarn gorges is of exceptional beauty.
Two resurgences, one crossing the village forming a stream and the second escaping from a cave, both fall in cascades into the Tarn and give it an unequaled charm.
