YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND – JAMES TAYLOR

Somewhere under the rainbow

a seagull full of hope

flies low across a violet sky

telling me that I can cope

so many signs we see if only

we care to open our eyes and look

the tender pages of our stories

rest gently between a velvet-covered book

bookmarked by a wish; a dream

on a snow white angel's wing and prayer

we are capable of so many things

if only we be brave and dare

so many times I tumble down

so many times get up

the little precious many things

I find to fill my golden cup

I raise it now and wish you well

blow you a New Year's kiss

ne'er let Auld Lang Syne be e'er forgot

a cup of kindness is full of bliss

if love is a many splendoured thing

and music be the food of love

then I have eaten a banquet here

a feast lain down from Heaven above

and as the New Year begins again

I'll keep you always in my heart

and if sometimes it seems I'm scarce

remember these words of René Descartes

“He lives well who is well hidden”

as I seek the truth of my life in silent ways

with clear mind comes a revelation

that will buoy me up on stormy waves

when grey clouds loom; obscure my vision

I know the moon and sun still shine

and you will know too that I am here

just call my name; send me a sign.

Most All Terrain Rovers while very capable, are still unable to travel across some terrains due to the fixed configuration of their frame and limited travel suspension systems...

Removal of the frame and suspension system is the only logical solution.

At this time, Tycho Systems is excited to announce a new evolution in rover technology...

We now present the "ANYWHERE YOU WANNA GO YOU CAN GO THERE ROVER. But you can just call it just call it the "GWYWTG" for short.

No longer will rover pilots worry about deep ruts, unusually rugged terrain, or unexpected methane lakes!

The new GWYWTG can easily traverse even the most inhospitable surfaces.

Gone is the troublesome need to plan your trip around difficult terrains. Our latest NAV system will take you from A to B in the shortest possible distance by simply following a straight line to your destination.

When traction becomes a problem simply flip the Quadrapedal motion button. In this configuration what was impassible becomes easy-peasy. Walk over harsh terrain, and easily power your way across unexpected lakes and frozen ice caps!

Their is even a bipedal mode! Yes, bipedal! Our engineers haven't quite figured out why you would need this configuration, but they sleep well knowing it is their if you decide to use it. We are confident that you will find a purpose for it, and probably when least expected.

They are the largest of the African eagles and incredibly powerful, capable of knocking an adult man off his feet. The largest eagle in Africa, the Martial Eagle weighs in at almost 14 pounds (6.5 Kg.) and has a wingspan of about 6 feet 4 inches. It is 32 inches long. The upper parts are dark brown with a white belly with black streaks; the legs are white and have very large talons. The immature bird looks quite different from the adult.

Nests are built invariably in trees, at any height from 20 to 80 feet above ground, but often in the largest tree in the area, growing on a steep hillside or in a gorge, where the bird has a clear sweep off the nest.

Martial Eagles will soar for hours on up draughts without hunting, and with a full crop, but it does most of its hunting from the soar also, killing or attacking by a long slanting stoop at great speed, or a gentle descent into an opening in the bush, the speed of the descent being controlled by the angle at which the wings are held above the back. It may kill from a perch, but does so seldom, and most of its kills are surprised in the open by the speed of the eagle's attack from a distance. (Source: Siyabona Africa)

Alberta, 2025.

The story is that I post-processed this picture before, back in 2011. It's taken with a Sony Nex3, at that time the first mirrorless camera of great image-quality. This picture is originally a JPEG-file. A RAW-file would create a much richer image.' Lightroom' however is capable of creating images with high color-information even when You start from A JPEG-file.

Light is capable of touching landscapes in wonderfully subtle ways, rendering painterly hues.

Ok, let me start by saying, "I'm not a highly knowledgable birder". But I am capable of learning a thing or two about the creatures of nature with whom I spend time with a camera.

I spent over an hour today with this pretty little raptor, an "adult" Sharp-shinned Hawk.

Why do I call it an "adult", rather than a "juvenile"?

Well, according to my "birder" friends and official birding sites on the internet, one key way to tell when a juvenile Sharpie has become an adult Sharpie is when it's eyes become a solid orange or red color. A juvenile Sharpie is pretty sure to have yellow eyes.

Now, my real delimma: in getting Real Up Close with my zoom lens this morning and then cropping the resulting pic, I can now see that the left eyeball of this Sharpie is both yellow and orange/red, so I'm going to go out on a limb here, as follows:

This Is A Crazy Teenage Sharpie, Looking To Find Itself In A Crazily Changing World Amid Increasing Climate Change.

Hah! You never would have guessed where I was headed with that one! Would you?

Anyway, I loved working with this Sharpie today! This bird has quite a character and it was really fun to watch it while it expressed a lot of that character.

Female zebras (mares, give birth every year or two, generally to a single foal, although twins foals are occasionally seen. Zebra foals can stand on their own just 20 minutes after birth, and are capable of running after about an hour. The baby is kept away from the rest of the herd for a few days to enable it to imprint or recognise its own mother.

After establishing air superiority , Blacktron changed tactics and began harassing OrionBlu’s ground operations with ground based guerilla strikes with shock troopers and Harvester Terror Drones. The Harvesters were faster and capable of traversing rocky and hilly terrain better than any ground based vehicle in the OrionBlu arsenal.

In order to counter the strikes, Orion Blu initially believed countering Blacktron assaults could be accomplished with retrofitted Grasshopper with stronger ground clearing weaponry. The modifications were unsuccessful as Blacktron implemented several technologies used to confuse the auto-targeting sensors on the Hoppers. OrionBlu tried a second modification by removing the cargo bay doors and adding gunner station inside the bay. This methodology proved ineffective as the Hopper’s maneuverability was weak and seriously dangerous as the engine pods also produced heat and radiation that could be lethal to the gunners after the radiation shielded cargo doors were removed.

To counteract these problems, OrionBlu commissioned Cerberus Systems to develop a new engine with reduced downward heat and low radiation to employ on the modified Hoppers. As part of the requirements, the new engine design was required to fit inside the same engine housing that fit the current Grasshopper engine pods. Based on the parameters, the new engine pods were completed and built to spec, but the reduced thrust in the new engine modules made the Grasshoppers even less maneuverable than before.

As a result, Cerberus designed a fighter specifically designed as a gunship to highlight the benefits of creating a ship with a specific purpose in mind. With its role at the forefront of every design decision, Cerberus created a fast, light, and maneuverable ship with a slight forward rake to keep the gunner always angled for ground view. The engine pods were successful in eliminating nearly all radiation and dangerous levels of heat in the VTOL enegines and a large front mounted search light on the front of the ship was implemented to enhance the ship’s spotting capabilities in poorly light conditions. The ship was idealized as a smaller version of the Grasshopper used to swarm ground based enemies. The ship naturally earned the nickname “Locust” and was quickly approved for production after a porotype cluster of Locusts dispatched an entire squad of Blacktron Harvester Drones with no casualties.

The Locust also proved to be an adequate air-to-air fighter with strong forward mounted medium laser cannons and a heavy chain rail guns matching the fire power of the Blue Jacket, though the Locust’s top air speed and maneuverability were considerably less than the Blue Jacket. The result was a gunship that did not require air to air support, but greatly benefited when included.

The Locust also featured a utility drone mounted in a top cargo bay. The utility drones were common equipment on several OrionBlu vehicles of the time and this one was used primarily as a search and recon to help flush out enemies taking cover in tight spaces.

Brazil

South America

One of the highlights of my trip to Brazil was seeing a tapir swimming across the river my last night out in the boat. The tapir was standing on shore and then decided to cross. It came very close to the boat and the five us got some great photographs. We were thrilled being the only ones to see it. Another image of the tapir can be seen in the first comment section.

A relative of the rhinoceros, the Brazilian tapir, or lowland tapir, is one of four species of tapir.

Inhabiting the rain forests of South America, Brazilian tapirs live near water and are capable swimmers and divers. In fact, they sometimes run to the water to escape predators. Splayed toes, four on each front foot and three on each hind foot, help the tapir successfully navigate through soggy ground.

Weighing between 150-250 kg (330-550 lb.), Brazilian tapirs measure around 2 m (6 ft.) in length.

A long, flexible proboscis, or snout, helps tapirs grasp leaves, shoots, buds, fruit, and small branches to eat. They generally feed only at night, hiding in the cool forest during the day.

For 2 days every 2-3 months, the female Brazilian tapir is able to conceive. Once pregnant, she will carry the baby for over a year before giving birth!

The Brazilian tapir is more abundant than the other three species of tapir, but it is still considered vulnerable of extinction by the IUCN Red List. - From Wikipedia

Built for CCCXIV on classic-castle.com, and for LoR on Merlin's Beard.

This model is 100% LEGO except for the custom sail, which is shaped paper. This ship is fully modular and features an interior, which can be easily accessed by removing either side of the hull. For additional access, the forecastle and aftcastle are both removable as blocks, and the deck itself can actually lift off (it slides up and off the mast). Beneath the forecastle is the navigator's chamber, which features a bed, chamberpot, and table with map, and whose walls can swing open for access. On top of the forecastle is a fully functioning tension ballista, whose firing mechanism was inspired by JKBrickworks' amazing ballista. The rudder is also movable via a tiller near the stern. The anchors are deployable, and all doors and hatches open and close.

As the economic sanctions against Lenfald tightened, smugglers running goods to and from the Great Western Islands turned to speed in order to evade the fleets of Loreesi and Garhim ships patrolling the seas. However, for carrying troops and highly important passengers, small ships were not an option.

To counter the threat of Loreesi galleys in particular, Lenfel shipbuilders designed a new kind of vessel - a warship specially equipped to neutralize all of its adversaries' advantaged. With high sides that towered over enemy ships and allowed defenders to repel boarding parties with ease, a forecastle-mounted heavy ballista capable of firing various projectiles in nearly every direction, and a specially designed crow's nest equipped with a sharpshooter's steel crossbow, this new behemoth could take on multiple opponents at once and emerge victorious.

The flagship of this new fleet, under the direct command of Governor Wynholm himself, was christened "Lord of the Isles," and its sail emblazoned with the sigil of the mighty oak. Loreesi sailors fear its arrival!

Capable of Mach 2, it conducted the majority of strike bombing missions during the early years of the Vietnam War; the only American aircraft to have been removed from combat due to high loss rates.

Sugarloaf Mountain (in Portuguese, Pão de Açúcar), is a peak situated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the mouth of Guanabara Bay on a peninsula that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean. Rising 396 metres (1,299 ft) above the harbor, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined loaf sugar.

The mountain is only one of several monolithic morros of granite and quartz that rise straight from the water's edge around Rio de Janeiro. A glass-paneled cable car (in popular Portuguese, bondinho - more properly called teleférico), capable of holding 75 passengers, runs along a 1400-metre route between the peaks of Pão de Açúcar and Cara de Cão every 20 minutes. The original cable car line was built in 1912 and rebuilt around 1972/1973 in its current form. The cable car goes from the base, not the peak of the Babilônia mountain, to the Urca mountain and then to the Pão de Açúcar mountain. To reach the summit, you take two cable cars. The first ascends to the shorter Morro de Açúcar, 220 meters high. The second car takes you to Pão de Açúcar.[1] The cable cars hold up to 75 passengers. The Italian-made bubble-shaped cars offer passengers 360-degree views of the surrounding city. Each car takes you only three minute from start to finish. Departures are available every 20 minutes between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm and the fare is US$25.

Masaccio Tommaso di Ser Giovanni di Mòne di Andreuccio Cassài (1401 - 1428) and Filippino Lippi (Prato, 1457 - Florence, 1504) - The resurrection of Theophilus' son and Saint Peter in the chair - Brancacci Chapel - Santa Maria del Carmine, Florence

When, in 1423, Masolino was commissioned to paint the frescoes of the Brancacci Chapel were commissioned, Masolino was forty years old and Masaccio twenty-two.

For a long time it has been considered that they were master and disciple, lending faith to the tradition; in truth Masaccio was already enrolled to the Art from 1422 and executed for the Carmine, in autonomy, even the fresco with St. Paul and the famous Sagra (both lost).

Perhaps the two painters were linked by a close-knit fellowship, as demonstrates the coherent and harmonious outcome of the cycle, executed in collaboration.

In these frescoes Masolino, a master of exquisite late Gothic culture, matches his style with that of his young and innovative colleague, while maintaining a decorative touch. colleague, while maintaining a decorative and refined touch.

More powerful appears the painting of Masaccio, populated by figures of solid plastic plant inserted into a realistic space and marked by a deep, almost tragic, sense of moral dignity. The perspective plant confers an extraordinary visual unity visual unity to the whole of the paintings, whose truthfulness is increased by the identification of a source of light capable of projecting the shadows of the characters.

To finish the unfinished decoration will be called, in the years years 1481-1483, a Renaissance artist of notable caliber: Filippino Lippi. His sober and respectful intervention, in tune with the painting of his predecessors, contributes to confer to the Brancacci Chapel a sense of homogeneity. Brancacci Chapel the sense of stylistic homogeneity that characterizes it, to the point that it is difficult to identify with certainty the contribution of the individual masters.

It is good to be multitasking capable when you have six legs!

The giraffe as her eye on some of the vegetation in front of her.

The Masai giraffe, also spelled Maasai giraffe, or the Kilimanjaro giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis tippelskirchi), is the largest subspecies of giraffe and the tallest land mammal. It is found in Kenya and Tanzania.

The Masai giraffe has jagged spots on its body. It also has a short tassel of hair on its tail. The bony outgrowths of the male's skull superficially provide the appearance of up to five ossicones. The dominant male's spots tend to be darker in colour than those of other members of its herd.

Adult males usually reach around 5.5 m in height—although they have been recorded at reaching heights of up to 6 m—and females tend to be a bit shorter at around 5–5.5 m (16–18 ft) tall. Their legs and necks are both about 2 m (6 ft 7 in) long, and their heart has a mass of roughly 12 kg (26 lb).

No breeding season is noted for the Masai giraffe. Females typically can breed from the age of 4. They give birth standing up. Giraffes give birth after 2–6 hours of labor. About 50–75% of the calves die in their first few months due to predation. Though many calves die, the mothers stab predators such as hyenas or lions with their sharp hooves. This can critically injure or kill a predator quickly; the Masai giraffe's kick is strong and is capable of crushing a lion's skull or shattering its spine. – Wikipedia

Red-shouldered hawks search for prey while perched on a treetop or soaring over woodlands. When they sight prey, they kill it by dropping directly onto it from the air. When in clearings, they sometimes fly low to surprise prey. Red-shouldered hawks, like most raptors, have very sharp vision and reasonably good hearing, with talons capable of killing animals at least equal to their own size. Small mammals are typically the most important prey, especially rodents. Voles, gophers, mice, moles and chipmunks may locally be favored based on abundance. Slightly larger mammals, such as rabbits and tree squirrels, are also occasionally predated. Other prey can include amphibians, reptiles (especially small snakes), small birds, and large insects. As our detour through southeastern Europe continues, we’ve laid siege to Budapest. We’ve been ordered to take the airfield to prevent any further resupply to the German and Hungarian troops still in the city. The airfield is mostly held by Hungarians, and command doesn’t seem to think too highly of them. But even if they aren’t as well trained as the Germans, they seem to be just as well equipped. And besides, I saw firsthand at Stalingrad what encircled, desperate soldiers are capable of.

Speaking of Stalingrad, command has let us team up with Lt. Romanova again, the sniper we met during the fighting for the train depots. Zubarev says it’s almost like having our guardian angel back, watching over us through her scope.

305 days ago, I didn't think I'm capable of images like this.

It may not be perfect but tomorrow is another day.

Great Carolus Linnaeus, who named this plant in 1753, quotes as his source that highly capable All-Rounder Henrik Adriaan van Rheede tot Drakenstein (1636-1691), who often passes in these my pages. A High Servant of the Dutch East Indies Trading Company (VOC), an admiral, administrator and colonial governor, and a not unobservant naturalist, he served among many other functions as governor of Cochin and the Malabar Coast of India (1669-1676). There he collected and described the local plants, usually giving also their indigenous names, notably those in Malayalam, the language of Kerala: in this case, Padávalam, which is still used today.

This plant's 'gourds' are shaped like cucumbers but much longer, serpentlike indeed, and they are a common vegetable in these parts. I haven't tasted it but I hope it savors better than it smells: Rheede remarks already on its 'heavy and malevolent' stink. Touching the vine, I'd slight bruised it and I know what I'm saying! I hurried away.

This particular individual is a fox that I have photographed several times over the last couple of years. She has a very subtle scar on her nose that makes identifying her relatively easy. It was incredible to see her co-parenting kits with another female, both nursing, both bringing back rabbits and both receiving affection like this from all of the kits. A very interesting social dynamic between the two adult females who are more than capable of raising 4 kits on their own but have decided to share the work load and raise them together.

The smallest vehicle capable of transporting a module (here a hospitalized medical module) over distances. It is a bit bigger than the tracer and its myriad of variants, but still is considered a light vehicle. Even if the Ox is designed with standardized modul transprt in mind, it is also capable once the module is removed, to transport a pair of mobile turrets or engineering mobile units.

The modules themselves are easily assembled together, making temporary settlement a very easy task, provided you have a lifter to take the module of the Ox. Defenceless, they usually rely on Tracers to escort them, or are housed aboard bigger vehicles for fast deployment in hostile territory.

Also I think sheep are very underestimated. I mean, look at the legs...and look at what they carry around.

Pedraza, Segovia.

Pedraza is a town and municipality in the province of Segovia (Spain), located 37 km northeast of Segovia capital and with a resident population of 467 people (INE 2011). It is a medieval walled town, whose careful rehabilitation motivated its declaration as a Historic Site in 1951.

The municipality is made up of Pedraza and the towns of Rades de Abajo and La Velilla.

Its name seems to derive from the Roman Pretaria, although the first historical data go back to Don Fernando Gómez de Albornoz, commander of Montalbán, who was appointed by King Enrique II of Castile Señor de Pedraza. Later it passed into the hands of the Herrera family and at the end of the 15th century it passed to the constables of Castile due to the marriage between Doña Blanca Herrera and Don Bernardino Fernández de Velasco. It remained in these hands until in the nineteenth century the manors were abolished. The constables settled there, being the place of passage for great personalities, as artists, nobles and monarchs. In the sixteenth and seventeenth century, the period of greatest splendor of the town took place, and it is from when most of the houses and palaces date. This prosperity was due, among other things, to the export to Northern Europe of the wool of their flocks of Merino sheep and their excellent fabrics, capable of competing with the best that were made in Flanders.

Sparrowhawk - (M) Accipiter Nisus

Though it is a predator which specialises in catching woodland birds, the Eurasian sparrowhawk can be found in any habitat and often hunts garden birds in towns and cities. Males tend to take smaller birds, including tits, finches, and sparrows; females catch primarily thrushes and starlings, but are capable of killing birds weighing 500 g (18 oz) or more.

The Eurasian sparrowhawk is found throughout the temperate and subtropical parts of the Old World; while birds from the northern parts of the range migrate south for winter, their southern counterparts remain resident or make dispersive movements. Eurasian sparrowhawks breed in suitable woodland of any type, with the nest, measuring up to 60 cm (2.0 ft) across, built using twigs in a tree. Four or five pale blue, brown-spotted eggs are laid; the success of the breeding attempt is dependent on the female maintaining a high weight while the male brings her food. The chicks hatch after 33 days and fledge after 24 to 28 days.

The probability of a juvenile surviving its first year is 34%, with 69% of adults surviving from one year to the next. Mortality in young males is greater than that of young females and the typical lifespan is four years. This species is now one of the most common birds of prey in Europe, although the population crashed after the Second World War. Organochlorine insecticides used to treat seeds before sowing built up in the bird population, and the concentrations in Eurasian sparrowhawks were enough to kill some outright and incapacitate others; affected birds laid eggs with fragile shells which broke during incubation. However, its population recovered after the chemicals were banned, and it is now relatively common, classified as being of Least Concern by BirdLife International.

The Eurasian sparrowhawk's hunting behaviour has brought it into conflict with humans for hundreds of years, particularly racing pigeon owners and people rearing poultry and gamebirds. It has also been blamed for decreases in passerine populations. The increase in population of the Eurasian Sparrowhawk coincides with the decline in House Sparrows in Britain. Studies of racing pigeon deaths found that Eurasian sparrowhawks were responsible for less than 1%. Falconers have utilised the Eurasian sparrowhawk since at least the 16th century; although the species has a reputation for being difficult to train, it is also praised for its courage. The species features in Teutonic mythology and is mentioned in works by writers including William Shakespeare, Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Ted Hughes.

Male Eurasian sparrowhawks regularly kill birds weighing up to 40 g (1.4 oz) and sometimes up to 120 g (4.2 oz); females can tackle prey up to 500 g (18 oz) or more. The weight of food consumed by adult birds daily is estimated to be 40–50 g (1.4–1.8 oz) for males and 50–70 g (1.8–2.5 oz) for females. During one year, a pair of Eurasian sparrowhawks could take 2,200 house sparrows, 600 common blackbirds or 110 wood pigeons. Species that feed in the open, far from cover, or are conspicuous by their behaviour or coloration, are taken more often by Eurasian sparrowhawks. For example, great tits and house sparrows are vulnerable to attack. Eurasian sparrowhawks may account for more than 50% of deaths in certain species, but the extent varies from area to area.

Males tend to take tits, finches, sparrows and buntings; females often take thrushes and starlings. Larger quarry (such as doves and magpies) may not die immediately but succumb during feather plucking and eating. More than 120 bird species have been recorded as prey and individual Eurasian sparrowhawks may specialise in certain prey. The birds taken are usually adults or fledglings, though chicks in the nest and carrion are sometimes eaten. Small mammals, including bats, are sometimes caught but insects are eaten only very rarely.

One of the many incredible aspects I really enjoy is the sense of liberation that each of the characters go though in Fury Road. Those freedoms and ideologies really shine particularly through in the supporting characters, like Imortan's Wives or Nux for example. I could go on for hours on end about the emotional beats and the ingenious writing and how well that damn George Miller can film a movie, but I'll keep this final upload to a minimum.

There's a great podcast that goes extremely indepth into the themes, ideologies, and practicality's of Fury Road. It's called “You Are Awaited” and if you enjoyed even a fraction of the film, you'll find that it's worth a listen... plus I'm sure anything I type over here has already been said over there anyway so I'll just stop here :P

On a different note, I feel like I'd be pulling a fast one on you guys if I had only built The Interceptor, so here's a few of the Fury Road side characters I've been tinkering with for a while. I contemplated hiding this for just my Patron's, but what the hell, they get plenty of exclusive stuff anyway! Perhaps I'll even try tackling some other characters in the future... ;)

L-R: Max Rockatansky, The Dag, Cheedo The Fragile, The Splendid Angharad, Toast The Knowing, Capable, Nux, and of course The Imperator Furiosa!

On a side note, a friend reminded me that Citizen Brick had recently released some Mad Max figs! Support me on Patreon and perhaps I can pick up one of those packs and photograph them!

Wow! What a cool and supportive idea and not a ploy at all! ;)

Aaaaannd in case you forgot which you probably didn't because I'm constantly reminding you.... Patreon's got all those other crazy BTS photos with the work in progress lighting, the interceptor build in clear/clean lighting, and another exclusive car photographed only for Patrons! :)

...Okay okay okay I promise this is the last Mad Max photo for real this time! We'll get back to Superheroes next week, I promise!

I just really love these ridiculous beautiful movies okay?!

Geez leave me alone! Gosh!
