I'm really sorry to inform you my dear friends, that few days ago , by an error i erased the same capture ( taken by me through a train's (going from Zaandam/Holland to Amsterdam) window about a month ago while i was touring there) from my Flicker's stream after it has already gained more than 99 faves ! At the same unpleasant occasion - i erased also six more captures that has gained about the same amount of faves ! Only now i'm capable to talk about it !!!!:) :) :)

With the recent release of Top Gun: Maverick I wanted to go back and review some of the images I took while assigned to USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) in the late-2000s. One of the highlights of our deployments was the returning home air show that the air wing would perform for the crew out in the middle of the ocean.
I've seen the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds perform many times, and while their aircraft may look really nice with the performance team paint jobs, seeing your coworkers and friends pull out all the stops to put their aircraft through their paces and demonstrate what they and their craft are capable of is pretty impressive.

"Life History of Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center’s Bald Eagle
Carpenter Nature Center’s Bald Eagle, Phoenix, was brought to The Raptor Center (TRC) at the University of Minnesota in December of 2008 from Hubbard County, Minnesota. Found on the side of the road near Kabekona Lake, he was less than a year old, very thin, exposed to lead, and unable to fly.
After being treated at TRC for internal trauma and fractures to his shoulder, it was determined that he could not be released due to a malformed joint that prevented proper extension of his right wing. This joint issue prevents him from flying distances longer than a football field. Not being capable of distance flight would make life in the wild very difficult, so Phoenix served as an animal ambassador that TRC for 8 years before coming to Carpenter Nature Center in May of 2017.
Carpenter Nature Center’s Bald Eagle is a wonderful ambassador for his species, teaching thousands of visitors every year about our natural environment and the diversity of wildlife found in our region. Phoenix will live a very comfortable life with humans, as he is provided with all the food he needs, stellar medical care, and safety from predators.

The northern goshawk is capable of considerable, sustained, horizontal speed in pursuit of prey with speeds of 38 mph (61 km/h) reported. ... Guillemot /Murre - Uria aalge
The common murre or common guillemot (Uria aalge) is a large auk. It is also known as the thin-billed murre in North America. It has a circumpolar distribution, occurring in low-Arctic and boreal waters in the North Atlantic and North Pacific. It spends most of its time at sea, only coming to land to breed on rocky cliff shores or islands.
Common murres have fast direct flight but are not very agile. They are more manoeuvrable underwater, typically diving to depths of 30–60 m (98–197 ft). Depths of up to 180 m (590 ft) have been recorded.
Common murres breed in colonies at high densities. Nesting pairs may be in bodily contact with their neighbours. They make no nest; their single egg is incubated on a bare rock ledge on a cliff face. Eggs hatch after ~30 days incubation. The chick is born downy and can regulate its body temperature after 10 days. Some 20 days after hatching the chick leaves its nesting ledge and heads for the sea, unable to fly, but gliding for some distance with fluttering wings, accompanied by its male parent. Chicks are capable of diving as soon as they hit the water. The female stays at the nest site for some 14 days after the chick has left.
Both male and female common murres moult after breeding and become flightless for 1–2 months. In southern populations they occasionally return to the nest site throughout the winter. Northern populations spend the winter farther from their colonies.
Some individuals in the North Atlantic, known as "bridled guillemots", have a white ring around the eye extending back as a white line. This is not a distinct subspecies, but a polymorphism that becomes more common the farther north the birds breed.

High densities mean that birds are close contact with neighbouring breeders. Common murres perform appeasement displays more often at high densities and more often than razorbills.
Allopreening is common both between mates and between neighbours. Allopreening helps to reduce parasites, and it may also have important social functions. Frequency of allopreening a neighbour correlates well with current breeding success.
Allopreening may function as a stress-reducer; ledges with low levels of allopreening show increased levels of fighting and reduced breeding success.
Alloparenting behaviour is frequently observed. Non-breeding and failed breeders show great interest in other chicks, and will attempt to brood or feed them. This activity is more common as the chicks get older and begin to explore their ledge. There has also been a record of a pair managing to raise two chicks. Adults that have lost chicks or eggs will sometimes bring fish to the nest site and try to feed their imaginary chick.
At time of extreme food stress, the social activity of the breeding ledge can break down.
On the Isle of May colony in 2007, food availability was low. Adults spent more of their time-budget foraging for their chicks and had to leave them unattended at times. Unattended chicks were attacked by breeding neighbour which often led to their deaths. Non-breeding and failed breeders continued to show alloparental care.
In areas such as Newfoundland, the birds, along with the related thick-billed murre, are referred to as 'turrs' or 'tuirs', and are consumed. The meat is dark and quite oily, due to the birds' diet of fish. Eggs have also been harvested.
Eggers from San Francisco took almost half a million eggs a year from the Farallon Islands in the mid-19th century to feed the growing city.

You would think that with that long sharp bill, capable of splitting mussels with ease, that they would use their bills as weapons. However, they fight with their feet and not with that otherwise lethal beak. Limpkin skirmishes are almost always very brief and are more for show that actual combat. I have seen contact but, like in most cases, this one was all for show. I’d say it was over in one or two seconds. It’s difficult to say what they were fighting over, as there were many limpkins are food was in abundance. Possibly just guys getting on each other’s nerves. Being the national bird of Hungary, and capable of flying at speeds approaching 200mph I was delighted when this fabulous looking bird perched briefly to enable a few shots.

It can easily fly over land and knows how to step on lakes or flooded farming areas. However, where food and nesting sites are abundant, the Black Swan is homebody. As one of the most adaptable waterbirds, the Black Swan usually looks for shallow water bodies where its morphology allows it to feed comfortably.

The main designers of this terrific ice sculpture at the hydroelectric power plant Niezelgrund are water drops, coldness and time. One drop alone wouldn't have effected anything here, without the other components. But the combination of these three elements were capable to creat this fugacious masterpiece.
For me this is the perfect symbol for live and the wish to achieve ore to create something. Yes, often the right circumstances are needed, but they alone are effecting nothing yet. Only with the permanent effort for my task, the passion of sustaining and proceeding, even if I can see barely any results at the beginning, make it possible for me to create something really extraordinary. And if finaly I'm the only one who is able to see, what extraordinary means, it still was worth it.
Die Hauptdesigner dieser grandiosen Eisskulpur am Wasserkraftwerk Niezelgrund sind Wassertropfen, Kälte und Zeit. Ein Tropfen allein würde hier nichts bewirken ohne die anderen Komponenten. Doch der Kombination aus den drei Elementen gelingt es, dieses vergängliche Meisterwerk zu erschaffen.
Für mich ein perfektes Sinnbild für das Leben und den Wunsch etwas zu erreichen oder etwas zu erschaffen. Ja, sehr häufig benötige ich die richtigen Rahmenbedingungen doch die allein bewiriken noch garnichts. Erst mein permanenter Einsatz für meine Sache die Leidenschaft des Durchhaltens, des Weitermachens, auch wenn die Ergebnisse anfangs noch kaum sichtbar sind, ermöglichen es, wirklich außergewöhnliches zu erreichen. Auch wenn ich schlußendlich der einzige bin, der zu erkennen vermag was außergewöhnlich bedeutet, hat es sich gelohnt.

Jackals are capable predators, bringing down prey as large as spotted deer when they hunt in groups. However they are highly opportunistic feeders: small to medium-sized vertebrates are commonly taken and their prey base consists of a wide variety ranging from small mammals such as mouse deer, ground nesting birds such as jungle fowl, eggs, insects, lizards, snakes to hares and rodents. They are often on the move constantly on the look-out for opportunities, preferring to scavenge rather than hunt like most predators. Hunting is both energetically expensive and at times even dangerous.

Great Crested Grebe - Podiceps Cristatus
The great crested grebe has an elaborate mating display. Like all grebes, it nests on the water's edge, since its legs are set relatively far back and it is thus unable to walk very well. Usually two eggs are laid, and the fluffy, striped young grebes are often carried on the adult's back. In a clutch of two or more hatchlings, male and female grebes will each identify their 'favourites', which they alone will care for and teach
Unusually, young grebes are capable of swimming and diving almost at hatching. The adults teach these skills to their young by carrying them on their back and diving, leaving the chicks to float on the surface; they then re-emerge a few feet away so that the chicks may swim back onto them.
The great crested grebe feeds mainly on fish, but also small crustaceans, insects small frogs and newts.
This species was hunted almost to extinction in the United Kingdom in the 19th century for its head plumes, which were used to decorate hats and ladies' undergarments. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds was set up to help protect this species, which is again a common sight.
The great crested grebe and its behaviour was the subject of one of the landmark publications in avian ethology: Julian Huxley's 1914 paper on The Courtship‐habits of the Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus).

Elephants are among the most intelligent of the creatures with whom we share the planet, with complex consciousnesses that are capable of strong emotions. Across Africa they have inspired respect from the people that share the landscape with them, giving them a strong cultural significance. As icons of the continent elephants are tourism magnets, attracting funding that helps protect wilderness areas. They are also keystone species, playing an important role in maintaining the biodiversity of the ecosystems in which they live.
During the dry season, elephants use their tusks to dig for water. This not only allows the elephants to survive in dry environments and when droughts strike, but also provides water for other animals that share harsh habitats.
When forest elephants eat, they create gaps in the vegetation. These gaps allow new plants to grow and create pathways for other smaller animals to use. They are also one of the major ways in which trees disperse their seeds; some species rely entirely upon elephants for seed dispersal.
On the savannahs, elephants feeding on tree sprouts and shrubs help to keep the plains open and able to support the plains game that inhabit these ecosystems.
Wherever they live, elephants leave dung that is full of seeds from the many plants they eat. When this dung is deposited the seeds are sown and grow into new grasses, bushes and trees, boosting the health of the savannah ecosystem.
Sidenote: (This kind of digital art is certainly not one of my strengths, I don't use photoshop so cutting out the model to place into a background wasn't as easy as I thought. I still have much to learn with this but felt proud enough with what I had achieved to publish this with regards to the subject. Elephants face so many more threats than loss of habitat, as do many more wild life species.)

Taken at The Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary of Canapnapan, magô in Waray, is a species of tarsier endemic to the Philippines. It is found in the southeastern part of the archipelago, particularly on the islands of Bohol, Samar and Leyte. It is a member of the approximately 45-million-year-old family Tarsiidae, whose name is derived from its elongated "tarsus" or ankle bone. Formerly a member of the genus Tarsius, it is now listed as the only member of the genus Carlito, a new genus named after the conservationist Carlito Pizarras.
The Philippine tarsier measures 85 to 160 mm (3.35 to 6.30 in) in height, making it one of the smallest primates. The small size makes it difficult to spot. The mass for males is between 80–160 g (2.8–5.6 oz), usually lighter for females, somewhat heavier than other tarsiers such as the pygmy tarsier. The average adult is about the size of an adult human fist.
The Philippine tarsier's habitat is the second-growth, secondary forest, and primary forest from sea level to 700 m (2,300 ft). Its habitat also includes tropical rainforest with dense vegetation and trees that offer it protection such as tall grasses, bushes, and bamboo shoots. It prefers dense, low-level vegetation in secondary forests, with perching sites averaging 2 m above the ground
It is a shy, nocturnal animal that leads a mostly hidden life. During the day, it sleeps in dark hollows close to the ground, near tree trunks and shrubs deep in the impenetrable bushes and forests. It becomes active only at night; with its keen sight and ability to manoeuvre around trees, it is able to avoid humans.
It is arboreal, habitually clinging vertically to trees and capable of leaping from branch to branch.
The Philippine tarsier is solitary. However, populations and individuals have been found to have either monogamous or polygamous mating patterns.
For the past 45 million years, tarsiers have inhabited rainforests around the world, but now they exist on only a few islands in the Philippines, Borneo, and Indonesia. In Bohol, the Philippine tarsier was a common sight in the southern part of the island until the 1960s. Since then, the number has dropped to around 700 on the island according to the Philippine Tarsier Foundation

Most iguanas clearly signal that trouble is ahead. They nod their head and wave their dewlap side to side. The dewlap is a fold of loose skin that hangs from the neck or throat. First, an extended dewlap is used to say hello to another creature during mating. Second, a threatened iguana may extend its dewlap to intimidate a predator into thinking it is much larger than it is. Third, an extended dewlap may mean the Iguana is trying to adjust its temperature, to catch more sun to warm up or a breeze to cool off.

Buckler's Hard is a hamlet on the banks of the Beaulieu River in Hampshire. With its Georgian cottages running down to the river, Buckler's Hard is part of the 9,000 acre (3,600 hectare) Beaulieu Estate. The hamlet is some 2.5 miles south of the village of Beaulieu.
Buckler's Hard, originally called Montagu Town, was built by the second Duke of Montagu and was intended to be a free port for trade with the West Indies. Its geography also favoured the development of shipbuilding, as the hamlet possessed access to a sheltered but navigable waterway with gravel banks capable of supporting slipways for vessel construction and launch. Timber for hulls was also readily available from the surrounding New Forest.
Shipbuilding at Buckler's Hard commenced in the early eighteenth century. A private shipyard adjoining the hamlet was established by James Wyatt, a local entrepreneur and timber merchant from Hythe on Southampton Water. Wyatt & Co. won a contract to build the Navy ship HMS Surprise in 1744 and subsequently another, HMS Scorpion, at Buckler's Hard. Henry Adams, a master shipwright, was sent from Deptford Dockyard to Buckler's Hard in 1744 by the Admiralty to oversee the building of these ships by Wyatt & Co. After the completion of the initial ships by Wyatt, Buckler's Hard grew to national prominence under Henry Adams and won subsequent Royal Navy contracts. Over the following sixty years, Adams would supervise the building of 43 Royal Navy ships at Buckler's Hard, including three that fought at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805: HMS Euryalus, HMS Swiftsure, and HMS Agamemnon.
Shipbuilding at Buckler's Hard declined in the nineteenth century. During World War II, the village was used to build motor torpedo boats and the river was a base for hundreds of landing craft for the Normandy invasion, Operation Overlord. Today the hamlet is given over to tourism, with a maritime museum and a modern yachting marina. Buckler's Hard was where Sir Francis Chichester began and finished his solo voyage around the world in the Gipsy Moth IV.

The kingfisher is solitary. As early as January, February, the male offers a fish to the female and the mating season begins ... After being hatched for about twenty days, the eggs hatch. Chicks are born naked and blind. It is after 10 days that the birds put on their feathers. Each member of the brood is able to swallow 15 fish per day. For parents, it's not easy! 25 days after hatching, the young are able to fly. Gradually, they will come out of the nest, will no longer be fed by their parents and will understand that they are no longer welcome on this territory. They will therefore seek a new water to settle there. A couple can raise 2 or 3 broods a year.
The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large cat native to Africa and central Iran. It is the fastest land animal, estimated to be capable of running at 80 to 128 km/h (50 to 80 mph) with the fastest reliably recorded speeds being 93 and 98 km/h (58 and 61 mph), and as such has several adaptations for speed, including a light build, long thin legs and a long tail. It typically reaches 67–94 cm (26–37 in) at the shoulder, and the head-and-body length is between 1.1 and 1.5 m (3.6 and 4.9 ft). Adults weigh between 20 and 65 kg (44 and 143 lb). Its head is small, rounded, and has a short snout and black tear-like facial streaks. The coat is typically tawny to creamy white or pale buff and is mostly covered with evenly spaced, solid black spots. Four subspecies are recognised.
More gregarious than many other cats, the cheetah has three main social groups—females and their cubs, male "coalitions" and solitary males. While females lead a nomadic life searching for prey in large home ranges, males are more sedentary and may instead establish much smaller territories in areas with plentiful prey and access to females.
The cheetah is active mainly during the day and hunting is its major preoccupation, with peaks during dawn and dusk. It feeds on small- to medium-sized prey, mostly weighing under 40 kg (88 lb), and prefers medium-sized ungulates such as impala, springbok and Thomson's gazelles.
The cheetah occurs in a variety of habitats such as savannahs in the Serengeti, arid mountain ranges in the Sahara and hilly desert terrain in Iran. The cheetah is threatened by several factors such as habitat loss, conflict with humans, poaching and high susceptibility to diseases. Earlier ranging throughout most of Sub-Saharan Africa and extending eastward into the Middle East up to the Indian subcontinent, the cheetah is now distributed mainly in small, fragmented populations in central Iran and southern, eastern and northwestern Africa. In 2016, the global cheetah population was estimated at around 7,100 individuals in the wild; it is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. In the past, cheetahs used to be tamed and trained for hunting ungulates. They have been widely depicted in art, literature, advertising, and animation.
The Praying Mantis is an incredible blessing for gardeners and farmers thanks to its mammoth appetite for plant-destroying pests.
The Praying Mantis was discovered in the United States in 1899. It came from Europe likely via trade transports across the Atlantic. They are highly recognizable creatures, mainly because of their odd shape. Their bodies are relatively large and long with four legs at the abdomen area and two larger legs that appear more like arms. The large Praying Mantis (not 'Preying' although it does that very well) got its name from these two forelegs. When resting, these front legs are held in a way that makes them seem folded in prayer. Those powerful front legs are able to hold down an insect as the mantis eats it alive. The mantis' mouth parts are capable of cutting through the tough exoskeleton of insect prey. They come in a variety of colors, ranging from bright green to dark brown. Like all mantises, or mantids as they are also called, the female is larger than the male, especially in the abdomen. They are hefty insects and females are unlikely to fly because their wings are not able to hold their weight very well. Females can use their wings to scare off would-be predators by fanning them open while raising their 'arms'. The pose startles some predators away, saving the mantis. Smaller males can and do fly. After mating, females have been known to eat the male after reproduction, but that does not always happen. Both genders have binocular vision; one eye can look in a different direction from the other. They appear to have tiny pupils, but those black dots are actually photoreceptors reflecting no light colors. These pseudopupils give an observer the impression of being watched.
Females lay their flat, seed-shaped eggs on a twig in autumn. The freshly laid eggs are then coated with a hard foam that helps the eggs maintain moisture during dry winters, and deters birds and other insects from bothering them as well. In spring, the eggs hatch and pale nymphs, shaped like miniature adults, emerge and immediately begin feasting on smaller insects and sometimes each other.
Mantids are extremely beneficial in gardens. They eat a large volume of pest insects and can be a farmer or gardener's best friend because they help remove infestations of wasps and beetles. A Praying Mantis and even unhatched eggs can be purchased in the spring and released onto a plant in a garden in order to head off any pests that arrive before summer. Larger species of the Mantid family have even been known to eat frogs, lizards, and hummingbirds.
Catching a glimpse of a Praying Mantis is a special thing, but leave it where it is if it has not flown away. It does a great service for growers and is a benefit to the ecosystem. Consider just admiring them, and capture only with a photograph.

Anthurium (Schott, 1829), is a large genus of about 600- 800 (possibly 1,000) species, belonging to the arum family (Araceae). Anthurium can also be called "Flamingo Flower" or "Boy Flower", both referring to the structure of the spathe and spadix.
Anthurium grows in many forms, mostly evergreen, bushy or climbing epiphytes with roots that can hang from the canopy all the way to the floor of the rain forest. There are also many terrestrial forms which are found as understory plants, as well as hemiepiphytic forms. A hemiepiphyte is a plant capable of beginning life as a seed and sending roots to the soil, or beginning as a terrestrial plant that climbs a tree and then sends roots back to the soil.

Today's conversation is destined for one of the most beautiful regions we have ever visited in the world: the southwest of Bolivia, a place that activates your imagination to the extreme making you think you are on another planet.
At 3,600 meters above sea level, there is the incredible Salar de Uyuni and the Bolivian Altiplano (where we are in this picture), with its colorful lagoons, thermal pools, volcanoes and private vegetation, all extremely photogenic and capable of making any trip there unforgettable.
Not really: the Commandant Charcot is an icebreaker capable of cruising through 2 meters thick annual ice…

Possibly the last time I'll ever use the keyboard shortcut "Shift + Alt + X, Q" today 😥 I think that's the thing I'm most sad to be leaving behind 😆 I started work there as a timid 26 year old, and I'll be leaving almost 17 years later having managed to fool my colleagues and customers that I've evolved into someone confident and capable.
I've made some great friends, and worked with some brilliant customers over the years. Possibly my favourite being the chap whom I've always bickered with about politics. Discussing recent events he referred to "Jeremy Cvnt the Chancellor" on a call with one of our very straightlaced PMs. PM was not amused. I was crying. Customer sent some follow-up emails to apologise. We're staying in touch.
Anyway, thought I'd post the photo I've been looking at every day for about the last year. I've deleted it from my work laptop so the gits can't have it 😆
