Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis canadensis); a species of sheep native to North America named for its large horns.

A pair of horns might weigh up to 14 kg (30 lb); the sheep typically weigh up to 143 kg (315 lb). Sheep originally crossed to North America over the Bering Land Bridge from Siberia; the population in North America peaked in the millions, and the bighorn sheep entered into the mythology of Native Americans. By 1900, the population had crashed to several thousand, due to diseases introduced through European livestock and over hunting.

Sixty-four years after the completion of the Vimy Memorial, Walter Allward's greatest works have become a newly vibrant part of our national heritage. Many Canadians have had the opportunity of travelling to France to visit the Vimy Memorial; now tens of thousands more can see the inspiration for this historic monument in the sculptor's original plaster figures

Canada Day Parade, Steveston/Richmond, BC, 2011

Happy Canada Day 2015!

A great parade! Last one I made was in 2011, and an overcast day. Hence, the vignette effect on these photos: 1. to focus on the subject; 2. to minimize the grey day; 3. to recognize this was in the past.

Apologies to those who don't like vignetted photos!

My favourite gallery in the museum, many small spaces dedicated to a variety of human rights issues in Canada, from those with disabilities, to migrant workers and refugees, to segregation in the 1940s.

Had a great day out a Radipole Lake today!

Started out alright, with various Cetti's Warblers singing.

When I got to Buddlia Loop, saw some Bearded Tits, these were a first for me for a fair few years!

When I got to North Hide saw the Marsh Harriers, including the Male attacking a Buzzard, possibly for territory (?)

When I got to the Hut/Shop, had a little time left so I went inside for a bit. Saw a large batch (is "batch" the right word???) of buzzards. I look at them through my binoculars. I look at the tail...

I don't believe it, but it's forked, buzzards are rounded, as are marsh harriers, it was too big for a kestrel or sparrowhawk, so that left one really (it wasn't an Osprey, and I'd be suprised if it was any other raptor), it was a Red Kite. By the time I had told the wardens/volenteers, (which was very quickly) I had lost it, as it was in the sky, and if you know how to find a Red Kite in a "batch" of buzzards, which are far away and constanly moving, I'd like to know! =]

This shot was taken right at the start of my walk around the reserve. These three geese were sat just off the island, and by the time I had finished by 2 hour walk around the reserve the had gone! (who can blame them!)
