This project was developed in response the general decline of the handwritten letter over the past two decades.
Here, a series of personal cards were created using both analog and digital 'handwriting'. The front of the card was handwritten by a 2.5 axis CNC machine, replacing a bit with a felt-tip pen. On the back of the card, I used my own hand to write a personal letter.

By placing the bit off center in the collet, and not fully restricting the rotation of the spindle, the CNC machine was able to deviate from the G-Code I created and have its own handwriting style separate from what I digitally developed.

The chamfer bit allows the curves to seemingly weave together.
As often the case, the first steps in handwriting a letter involves trashing drafts and starting over again. The CNC machine was no exception. It's deviations from my designs, it's handwriting, sometimes enhanced the cards, but other times ruined them.
