we had a party for our one-month-in-the-wadge. So, my partner in crime (Corrina) and I baked two cakes and blew up balloons for the house.

Our housemates proceeded with this ingenious idea of sticking them to the roof.

Awesome.

George Vernon Powys, 7th Baron Lilford’s former Royal Air Force Avro 683 Lancaster BVII NX611 YF-C stands on gate guardian duty at Royal Air Force Scampton. Saturday 25th July 1981

Note, NX611 was built by Austin Motors Limited at Longbridge to Far East standard in April 1945 for the Royal Air Force as NX611 and was issued to Number 38 Maintenance Unit on 16th April 1945 for storage. It was acquired by the French Government in April 1952 for the l'Aéronavale (French Naval Aviation) as WU-15. It was retired from use and presented by the French Government to the Historical Aircraft Preservation Society, being delivered from New Caledonia in the Pacific Ocean to Bankstown in Australia in August 1964. WU-15 was registered on 22nd October 1964 to Malcolm Dudley Norwood Fisher and William Russell Snadden as G-ASXX and flown to Biggen Hill in the United Kingdom, arriving on 13th May 1965 after a nineteen day journey. The Historical Aircraft Preservation Society Limited’s assets were transferred to Reflectaire Limited at some time before G-ASXX was flown for the last time on 26th June 1970, flying from Royal Air Force Hullavington to Blackpool Airport in Lytham St. Annes. The Reflectaire Collection was put up for disposal in a bankruptcy auction by Bernard Phillips and Company on 29th April 1972 but NX611 failed to reach its reserve price. It was sold privately to George Vernon Powys, 7th Baron Lilford on 1st May 1972 and moved to Royal Air Force Scampton where it had been agreed it would be the station’s gate guardian for a ten years period. It was allocated the maintenance serial 8375M circa September 1973 and was placed by the guardroom at Royal Air Force Scampton in spring 1974, painted to represent YF-C of the Scampton Station Flight. The registration G-ASXX was officially cancelled on 16th February 1979

This is a single image captured from a static camera/lens on a tripod from my front yard. Nothing like some images captured with telescopes mounted on astro-gimbals but at least I got a photo of it. I never did see it with my naked eye and barely saw it with binoculars but there was a very bright moon illuminating the night sky which did not help.
