Adding the chili powder. I used two bags of this McCormack brand. It's not super hot like it's labeled though. There's lots of different brands you can buy and some are better than others. They are mostly corn starch with cumin and some red pepper in them and a few dried onions. I could make it myself, but this is easier and I'm lazy.

boletes retain some interesting photogenic qualities as they dry. Most other mushrooms do not.

A few weeks ago we decided to give growing our own mushrooms another try. (A few years ago Pookie gave me a "grow your own mushrooms"-of-the-month gift for Christmas, and it didn't work out as well as we hoped.) This time around we got a very straightforward kit, and it seems to be working! Much to our delight, we had a bumper crop of two enormous button mushrooms tonight. They were DEEEEE-licious.

I drained off some of the water and put the pot back on the stove. Next I'll dump the canned stuff in it.

Have a good soup stock made from spareribs, pork bones or chicken, add in one sliced onions, a can of button mushrooms and a few carrots and boiled till tender. If you like, you may add in one or two corn on the cobs cut into small pieces.

Finished pizza. How smug am I? I'm full up and in my jammies. I foresee an evening of laying on the sofa and watching Battllestar Galactica.

This is a box of Button Mushrooms. I received it as a Birthday Gift from my wife's Sister and her Husband.

It took awhile to get going. It was supposed to take about two weeks to start but it was over a month before I saw the first little "shroom".

Then they were quite small for a couple of weeks but now it seems to be getting in full growing mode.

It is supposed to grow mushrooms for about 3 to 4 months.

Chili is really great in cold weather, though it' s good at other times as well. Lots of people, and it seems to be a "guy" thing, have secret chili recipes that they swear by as being the greatest of all Chili. But I don't really care, I just keep it simple and put in what I like, and it's not a big deal shrouded in mystery...that's just silly. Anyway, this is all the stuff I'm going to use, except for one other thing that isn't in the picture.

We tried it for the first time to see what the difference in taste is. Made with the usual side of balsamic-soy mushrooms and onions. Those are balsamic marinated grape tomatoes and useless garnish cilantro.

The steak is done in our usual way, coated with sriracha and heavily crusted with coarse sea salt and cracked peppercorns.

There aren’t any classes for a week. Rika volunteers to cook meals. We decided on cheesy pasta for lunch today. This meal was not bad.

A couple of different preparations, using common or button mushrooms and chanterelles.

The addition of chillies to this dish will give it a wonderful kick!

I know they don't look very "polished" at the moment, but they're my first ones, so I have a lot of practising to do yet!

I don't really like how messy the white dots have turned out, so I might have to use a stencil of some sort, maybe.

Button mushrooms and portabella mushrooms leftover from cooking “tom yum kung” went into this dish with some sweet peas and king oyster mushrooms added.

I like presenting my meals nicely, and this salad lent itself to some bright patterns, and some bright colours too, which could be handy in the Rainbow game.
