Icelandic wildflowers. I think this one is called Goldilocks Buttercup, but could be some other variety of buttercups.

Thousands and thousands of these glorious buttercups lined Heintooga Ridge Road off the Blue Ridge Parkway and all along the higher elevations.
Alpine buttercups (Ranunculus adoneus) are amazingly hardy, initiating the growth of their flowers while still buried by snow. The flowers absorb radiation from the sun and melt the snow around them, getting a jump on the very short alpine growing season. The flowers also track the sun as it moves across the sky, warming the flower, potentially attracting pollinators, and gaining energy through photosynthesis. This flower had already emerged from the snow which has melted around it, but snowmelt water from upslope had frozen overnight, creating a layer of ice surrounding its stem.
The humble Buttercup decorates our lawns until it is cut down by the mower, only to re-appear shortly after.
The buttercups are beginning to bloom! Which means I'll soon be able to mow grass again. Not that I am especially looking forward to that particular chore but it is getting quite shaggy looking. I usually wait until I see the definite patches of the buttercups and then mow all around the bigger patches. If I had close by neighbors I think they would be complaining about the condition of my yard but I Like it half wild and so do the birds and bees. :D Have a great day everyone!
We've got a garden full of buttercups - and whole fields with a yellow carpet of buttercups too. So a buttercup fence was easy to find ;o)
