Taken from beneath Tower Bridge.

Butler's Wharf is on the south bank of the River Thames, just east of Tower Bridge, now housing luxury flats and restaurants. It was orignally a shipping wharf and warehouse complex. Lying between Shad Thames and the Thames Path, it overlooks both the bridge and St Katharine Docks on the other side of the river. Butler's Wharf is also used as a term for the surrounding area.

"Butler Brothers originated in 1877 as a wholesaler selling general and variety-store merchandise by mail. By the early years of the twentieth century the company served about 100,000 customers through the United States and was the largest firm of its type in the country. Rising chain store competition induced the company to establish in 1927 a chain of franchised variety stores under the Ben Franklin name"

One of the county's foremost active landmarks, this grand 4-story structure was built in the late 19th century and is an outstanding example of the Second Empire architecture. The use of imported granite, marble, and plate glass, along with solid black and walnut trimmed doors, was considered grandiose at the time of construction
