Address: 8030 Warden Avenue, moved to 12 David Gohn Circle

The John Jacob Lunau House was originally located at 8030 Warden Avenue and initially belonged to Joachim Lunau, one of the original Berczy settlers. Joachim sold the property to his youngest son John in 1827. John was a reformer and a personal friend of William Lyon Mackenzie, but did not participate in the Rebellion of 1837 due to his health. This house provides architectural significance to the region as it is a classic Georgian-style cottage with Gothic Revival elements. This one-and-a-half storey cottage has a three-bay front faade and was constructed sometime between 1840 and 1860. The central gable emphasizes the main door's asymmetrical placement. It was originally constructed of unburned clay brick, but was later covered with wood siding. The porch and gothic window style are both recent restorations that help the current house maintain its original look. In 1867, John sold the property to his youngest son Silas. In 1995 this house was moved from its original location on Warden Ave to its current location at 12 David Gohn Circle in the Markham Heritage Estates subdivision due to the construction of the 407 Highway. The John Jacob Lunau House became a designated heritage property in 1999 under the Ontario Heritage Act.

Address: 8028 9th Line, changed to 95 Russell Jarvis Drive

The David Break House at 95 Russell Jarvis Drive was built approximately 1859 by David Break, son of Adam Break. Adam Break purchased Lots 7 and 8 of Concession 8 from John Button in 1808 and lived here with his family. The Break name is associated in early Markham with music, as Adam Break was a well-known local organ maker and composer at the time. When David Break inherited this property in the mid-1800s, he built this two-storey Georgian structure of split rubble fieldstone in 1859 and continued to farm this property. Although a rectangular plan, the window placement and entrance on the front faade is unusual as it is off centre and not symmetrical. The Break family continued to own this property until 1896 when it was sold to Samuel Penny. The David Break House was originally accessed through 8028 Ninth Line, but due to changing property lines and build up around the house, this has changed to 95 Russell Jarvis Drive. In 2001 the David Break House became a designated heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act.

HSBC World Headquarters at 8 Canada Square in Canary Wharf / London, UK in June 2009.

Canary Wharf is a large business and shopping development in East London, located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, centred on the old West India Docks in the London Docklands.

Rivalling London's traditional financial centre, The Square Mile, Canary Wharf contains the UK's three tallest buildings: One Canada Square (sometimes known as the Canary Wharf Tower) at 235.1 m (774 ft); followed by 8 Canada Square and the Citigroup Centre, both at 199.5 m (654 ft).

Canary Wharf is built on the site of the West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs. From 1802, the area was one of the busiest docks in the world. By the 1950s, the port industry began to decline, leading to the docks closing by 1980.[2]

Canary Wharf itself takes its name from No. 32 berth of the West Wood Quay of the Import Dock. This was built in 1936 for Fruit Lines Ltd, a subsidiary of Fred Olsen Lines for the Mediterranean and Canary Island fruit trade. At their request, the quay and warehouse were given the name Canary Wharf.[3]

The Canary Wharf of today began when Michael von Clemm, former chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB), came up with the idea to convert Canary Wharf into back office. Further discussions with G Ware Travelstead led to proposals for a new business district. However, Travelstead was unable to fund his project[4] and sold it to Olympia & York.

Construction began in 1988 with the first buildings completed in 1991 which included One Canada Square that became the UK's tallest building and a powerful symbol of the regeneration of Docklands. Upon opening, the London commercial property market had collapsed and Olympia and York Canary Wharf Limited filed for bankruptcy in May 1992.

Address: 4075 Major Mackenzie Drive East, changed to 45 Stollery Pond Crescent

Originally known as the Francis Stiver House, the Stiver-Stollery House at 45 Stollery Pond Crescent has historical significance to the City of Markham for its long association with the Stiver family. The lot which the house sits on was granted to Peter Stoeber Stiver by the Crown in 1803. Peter was the son of John Nicholas Stiver, one of the original Berczy settlers who arrived in Markham in 1794. His brother Francis acquired the property and he built this stone residence approximately 1852. The Stiver family was well-known locally in 1900, as Frances and Charles Stiver founded Stiver Brothers Coal and Seed, dealers in feed, grain, coal, seed and oil. The house provides an excellent example of a Classic Revival cottage constructed of semi-dressed fieldstones with a blended addition. The original building is rectangular in plan, standing at one-and-a-half storeys high and a somewhat rare example of a five-bay front faade. The house was owned by the Stiver family until 1957 when Arthur Stollery, a mining entrepreneur and son of Toronto's well-known clothier, purchased this property. Arthur established Angus Glen Farm and raised Black Aberdeen Angus cattle and thoroughbred horses, some which went on to become champion horses. The addition of a second stone house similar to the original attached by a one-storey breezeway was constructed approximately 1960. In 1992, a golf course was built on some of the original horse enclosures. Today, the house remains as a reminder of the agricultural community that once existed on the land that has been developed as the Angus Glen community. Originally at 4075 Major Mackenzie Drive East, the house has changed address to 45 Stollery Pond Crescent due to the buildup of the subdivision around it. The Francis Stiver House became a designated heritage property in 1995 under the Ontario Heritage Act.

Oakland, CA — Wednesday, November 10th, 2010 — It was a night of culmination for Oakland Digital Arts & Literacy Center (ODALC). After more than a year of striving to establish itself in a time of economic downturn, the local technology nonprofit succeeded in hosting its first annual Inspiration Awards, which celebrated the City of Oakland and honored three influential people for their significant contributions to the community: Andreas Weigend (world-renowned data expert), Joe Kennedy (CEO of Pandora Radio), and Donald Tamaki (known for successfully reopening the landmark Supreme Court cases of Fred Korematsu, Gordon Hirabayashi and Minoru Yasui).

Held in Oakland’s historic Preservation Park, the event sold out to approximately 130 guests: some came representing prominent tech companies (Cisco Systems, Pandora Radio, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Amazon.com); others came from reputed financial institutions (Cathay Pacific Bank, Morgan Stanley); others still came from Oakland’s rich assortment of local businesses and organizations (Uptown Body and Fender, Rosewood House, Gente Bella Salon Spa, OneCalifornia, It’s a Grind Coffee House).

ODALC made a point of thanking its key partners at the event, namely East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation and Oakland Unwrapped. Executive Director Shaun Tai also announced plans to work closely with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs of Cisco Systems.

In addition to celebrating the Oakland community and all its assets, the event and its honorees looked to the city’s future, impressing the urgency of ODALC’s mission to make computer education more accessible to underserved communities.

“ODALC is teaching people to embrace, not fear technology,” said Norman Weekes, Strategic Advisor at ODALC. “To be a user of technology and not one of the used. To be a producer and not a consumer. To take your life experience and combine it with the infinite possibilities technology offers and to better yourself, your business and maybe even society.”

As ODALC celebrated a year of hard-earned accomplishment and looked ahead to 2011, so did Oakland’s recent Mayor-Elect Jean Quan. Within thirty minutes of announcing her victory at Oakland City Hall, Quan made her way to Preservation Park in support of ODALC and Inspiration Awards 2010.

“I'm particularly honored to be here because [ODALC] has had this vision of inspiring Oakland and looking at Oakland in new way,” said Quan. “[ODALC] is part of the new Oakland, the next generation. Let’s support them!”

When she takes office on January 3rd, 2011, Quan will be the first Asian American woman mayor of a major U.S. city. ODALC considers her an invaluable ally in the effort to promote greater prosperity for Oakland and the Bay Area. After a year of struggle and hardship, Oakland hopefully awaits a new era of leadership and social change. Inspiration Awards 2010 exceeded its original scope and served as a platform for that change.

For 2011, ODALC plans to recruit more board members and raise $80,000 to support its program “Digital Equity for Local Commerce,” which helps struggling small business owners in Oakland compete with the rest of the market via online advertising. If Wednesday night was any indication, the Oakland community has the passion and the drive to make ODALC’s vision a reality.

WealthCoach is your ABC to Freedom

Let my people go – set the captives free.

Everyone needs something to believe in and something to belong to. And everyone needs to be free – free to be themselves. Freedom is the highest aspiration of the vast majority of people.

I believe that, for most people, Employment, Debt, and the System are forms of imprisonment and slavery. People are, “A slave to…” – and you can fill in the gap. If you aren’t in control of your time, you are a captive to someone or something or some system.

“For most people…” means that this isn’t true for all people. Not everyone is a Natural Entrepreneur, and if they were, we would have no Entrepreneurial Businesses! No, some people work better in an organisation – but it needs to be an Entrepreneurial Organisation – what I call collectively Living Organisations®.

In a Living Organisation, people can find a place to belong, a place to shine.

My purpose is clear: to set people free to excel as an Entrepreneur or within an Entrepreneurial business that they might live a life to the full and realise their full potential. That’s a bold purpose and a never-ending mission – the sort of mission where the journey is as rewarding as the destination.

As straightforward as ABC

What we do in the WealthCoach Community is not simple, but it is straightforward. WealthCoach is your ABC – your “Accelerated Business Catalyst”.

Specifically, the curriculum and the community of coaches work on the Person, the People, and the Processes. By acting as a catalyst, we accelerate the business growth – primarily by working on and with the business owner – the Entrepreneur – the Accelerated Entrepreneur, the Living Entrepreneur.

The approach has a great pedigree – based, as it is, on what I call the work of Three Wise Men (plus one). Like “The Three Musketeers,” there are actually four!

Alphabetically:

•David Allen – the author of “Getting Things Done,” the systematic approach to time management.

•Tony Buzan – the creator of Mind Mapping – the most natural way to create value.

•Stephen Covey – the author of “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” and “First Things First.”

•Dan Sullivan – founder of Strategic Coach® - the programme for Entrepreneurs already earning over £100,000 pa.

The above list represents the four pillars of the programme. In reality, there is a massive faculty of wisdom we draw down – too many names to mention, that is until we get to their contribution to the journey - when we will proudly and openly state the source of each key component and milestone.

Why not jump on the Strategic Coach® programme straight away? Well, if you are already earning £100,000 per annum, I’d say, “Jump!” Dan’s programme is meant for you. Our programme is for emerging Entrepreneurs. Our outcome is to get you to your first £100,000 of income each year, and to then to introduce you to Dan’s programme (unless you’d like to stay, of course, and coach other emerging Entrepreneurs!)

The Person, The People, The Processes

“A cord of three strands is not easily broken.”

As Founder of WealthCoach, I believe that building a worthwhile business, 10x your current size, is easier than you think. For example, I’m sure you believe that it would be easily possible to multiple your own personal performance by a factor of 3, don’t you? I’m equally sure that you realise that putting the right team in place could boost your business’ performance by a factor of 3, true? And, finally, it’s entirely conceivable that your business could also grow by a factor of 3 if you refined and improved your systems so that you are both more profitable and productive, isn’t it?

Since any Entrepreneurial Business is an ecosystem (and part of the bigger ecosystem we all live in), it’s easy to appreciate that improving the Person, the People, and the Processes, each by a factor of 3, will work synergistically. For example, if you improve your own performance, do you think that will have an impact on your team? Of course it will! And if you improve your team, do you think they will find more ways to enhance the productivity and profitability of your systems? Naturally!

3 + 3 + 3 x Synergy = >10 As I said, not simple but straightforward. My own background in Accelerated Learning and Life Sciences means you can do this faster, organically, sustainably, naturally.

I’d like to share with you a foretaste of how we will work together on all three strands.

THE PERSON

I’m sure you realise by now this is really all about you. The Community and the Programme is made for the Entrepreneur. The Accelerated and Living Entrepreneur is the Map Maker, the Path Finder, the Pioneer. Each Entrepreneur needs to find their flow. They need to be fuelled by motivation and vision – by insight and innovative thinking to literally create the value that will empower and enrich the business.

For this reason, we begin with you as an emerging Entrepreneur and we help you find your flow (and the blocks to your flow!) You have unique gifts and talents, and the business will only truly thrive when you spend the majority of your time working within your best flow.

As such, we’ll not only help you find your flow (with Roger Hamilton’s Wealth Dynamics), we’ll also help you take back control of your time (using a blend of David Allen’s “Getting Things Done,” Covey’s “First Things First,” Claus Møller’s approach which built Time Manager International, and Dan Sullivan’s Entrepreneurial Time System.)

You’ll unleash your creativity using, amongst other things, Tony Buzan’s Mind Mapping – including the most powerful software versions of this creative productivity tool. Mind Mapping was rightfully described by Rikki Hunt as, “The Swiss Army Knife for the Brain.” One tool, multiple applications.

All of this is amazing as long as you maintain your motivation. As such, Motivational Mapping, with Jamie Skipper, is a core part of our systematic approach to boosting your performance. This, like Wealth Dynamics, will be important when we draw the right team to you too. Their dynamics and their motivators will necessarily be different to yours, and you, as their Leader, will need to understand and leverage this.

On that last note, before we move on to the People, I’m sure you’ll recognise that you need to become an extraordinary leader if you are to inspire extraordinary performance in your team. A key to the programme, therefore, is developing your Entrepreneurial Leadership skills. (ZengerFolkman, “The Extraordinary Leader.”)

The people

An extraordinary Entrepreneur needs an extraordinary team around her or him. Each team member needs a place and the space to shine – using their own unique gifts and talents. As such, the Wealth Dynamics and Motivational Mapping that help the Entrepreneur discover their own gifts, talents, and motivational fuel in the Person part of the programme also spill over into the next phase where we build the team – the People.

We utilise the BlessingWhite X Model of Engagement to help you and your team understand how an Entrepreneurial Organisation actually brings freedom when everyone is in a place where they can thrive. If you, the Entrepreneur, are fuelled by motivation and vision, your people are fuelled by engagement and recognition. They need to be part of something they believe in and are engaged with. Traditional organisations can destroy personal freedom, but entrepreneurial, living organisations empower people to be free to express their unique gifts and talents. That’s a business worth building.

the processes

A profitable and productive business is one that will need to become so efficient and effective that it works without you! This is a business that is a true asset – an asset that lets you prosper whether or not you are physically present.

The fuel for this kind of business is automation, insourcing and outsourcing. Whether you build an in-house team or a virtual team around the Globe – it’s certain that you have to consistently free yourself up from anything that is not your unique gift or talent. And, to a degree, you need to Lead your team to do the same. Through technology and delegation, your business can scale, leading ever higher numbers of people to live the life of freedom we all aspire to.

Michael Gerber (“The E Myth”) and Dan Sullivan (Strategic Coach®) agree on the need to create a systematic Entrepreneurial business that works without you. Until then, you will remain attached as the key asset.

The Community

Couldn’t you do this on your own – after all, I’ve provided many hyperlinks to our source material? The answer is, “Yes!” I began by saying that everyone needs to believe in something – and I’ve shared what I believe in – you don’t have to join us in order to believe in the same things, nor to learn the key strategies. But I also said everyone needs to belong to something. Without a shadow of doubt, 80% of the value of our programme comes from the people on the programme, not the strategies we teach. It’s about the tribe. It’s about you finding your own place to shine in the community of like-minded emerging entrepreneurs.

Believe and belong.

What next?

If you’d like to join our tribe, our movement, our revolution – the first step is to connect! Connecting to a network of like-minded people will undoubtedly begin building the net worth of your business.

I look forward to being your companion on this exciting journey.

Neil ‘Lex’ McKee

Address: 9721- 9804 Kennedy Road, moved to 99 Thoroughbred Way

The Peterson-Jarvis House, now located at 99 Thoroughbred Way, is an important reminder of Markham's rural agricultural past. Initially this house was located at 9721-9804 Kennedy Road, which was part of the original Berczy settlement. The property was granted by the Crown to William Weeks in 1804 and the property was sold to William Cooper, Thomas Gough and Thomas Gray. The Gray family owned the property for 28 years and then the east half of the lot was sold by the Gray family to Philip Peterson in 1836. Peterson was the eldest son of the Reverend John Dieter Peterson, pastor to the Berczy community from 1819 to 1829 in St. Philips Lutheran Church. Philip constructed this house with his wife Elizabeth Fierheller in 1840. The house has experienced a considerable amount of additions in its history. As the house appears now, the rear tail of the house facing 62 Thoroughbred Way is the original 1840 structure. This portion of the house is constructed of brick with voussoir treatment above the windows and doors. This property remained with the Petersons until 1912 when it was sold to Wesley H. Johnson who eventually sold it to Edward Jarvis in 1919. It was Jarvis who constructed the main part of the house. The front section of the house as well as the second storey addition was added in an Edwardian Classicism style in approximately 1920. This house remains a landmark in the community, along with a 200-year-old deciduous tree at the rear of the house. This tree is believed to be the oldest standing tree in Markham. In 2000 the Peterson-Jarvis House became a designated heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act.
