Address: 10676 Reesor Road

The Adam Betz House is located at 10676 Reesor Road at what was known as the hamlet of Mongolia, originally known as California Corners. This house was constructed in 1851 and was later inhabited by Adam Betz. Betz was a German immigrant farmer who came to Markham in the 1870s. This one-and-a-half storey Classic Ontario frame farmhouse has elements of Gothic Revival architecture, seen through the centre front gable. While the house has been updated, it still retains the majority of its architectural features, such as the flat-headed door and window openings retaining their original size. The Betz descendants continued to own and farm the property until 1955. The Adam Betz house remains as a reminder of Markham's rural agricultural beginnings and in 2012 became a designated heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act.

Address: 9782 Kennedy Road, moved to 20 David Gohn Circle

The John Ramsay House at 20 David Gohn Circle is one of the last remaining homes from the Colty's Corners community. Built in 1850, this house originally was a one-and-a-half storey workers' cottage located at 9782 Kennedy Road. Sometime between 1900 and 1920 renovations were made to enlarge the second storey to turn the house into a full two-storey home. This house is a good example of a vernacular farmhouse with many of its original features maintained, which includes the vertical tongue and groove wood siding which was most likely added during construction in the early 1900s. Further evidence of the original 1850 construction date is seen in the house's interior, where supporting beams for the second storey are clad in ornate red cherry wood-a typical mid-19th century Germanic architectural feature. The house's original property on Kennedy Road was owned initially by Berczy settler John Frederick Stamm, who worked on clearing Yonge Street in 1795, adding another element of Markham's roots to this house's history. Stamm sold the property to John Hunter in 1821 who lived there with his family until he died and his wife Charlotte Hunter remarried and continued to live in the house until it was sold in 1875 to John Eckardt. Within a year Eckardt sold the house to John Ramsay. In the mid-1990s this house was relocated to Markham Heritage Estates for preservation and in 1999 the John Ramsay House became a designated heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act.

Address: 37 and 39 Colbourne Street

The Mill Workers Double Cottage at 37 and 39 Colbourne Street were built by Thomas Hamhill, a Thornhill carpenter, approximately 1850. This building was at some point divided into two cottages and was built most likely to serve as rental housing for workers employed in nearby mills on the Don River. The low one-and-a-half storey roughcast stucco finish and simple Classic Revival design are typical features for tradesmen dwellings in old Ontario mill villages. The centre door flanked by a pair of windows is characteristic of the Georgian style of many local buildings from the mid-19th century. This property is notable due to it being one of the few historical homes in Markham retaining so many of their original characteristics. According to local legend, part of the original joined building was used as a rope factory and the other portion used as a home; however, there is no evidence to support this claim. The Mill Workers Double Cottage became a designated heritage property in 1978 under the Ontario Heritage Act.

Address: 7933 14th Avenue

The James Dimma House at 7933 14th Avenue has great historical significance in Markham due to its original occupant, James Dimma Sr., and his involvement in the establishment of the Zion church. Dimma immigrated to Upper Canada in 1835 with his wife and two youngest sons. This one-and-a-half storey, Regency-style house was built in 1850 on a rectangular plan of five bays across by one deep, and along with Dimma's 200 acre property, came to be known as Willowdale Farm. Together with Robert Milroy, whose family lived to the south of the Dimmas, Dimma established the early congregation of the Zion church. Dimma was a church elder for many years within the Zion church before passing away in 1869. Dimma's son, James Dimma Jr., then continued to farm Willowdale for another 20 years. The James Dimma House is important due to its association with the historic community surrounding the village of Cedar Grove for both agricultural and religious purposes and became a designated heritage property in 2003 under the Ontario Heritage Act.

The Radisson Edwardian hotel in Canary Wharf / London, UK in June 2009.

Canary Wharf is a large business and shopping development in East London, located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, centred on the old West India Docks in the London Docklands.

Rivalling London's traditional financial centre, The Square Mile, Canary Wharf contains the UK's three tallest buildings: One Canada Square (sometimes known as the Canary Wharf Tower) at 235.1 m (774 ft); followed by 8 Canada Square and the Citigroup Centre, both at 199.5 m (654 ft).

Canary Wharf is built on the site of the West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs. From 1802, the area was one of the busiest docks in the world. By the 1950s, the port industry began to decline, leading to the docks closing by 1980.[2]

Canary Wharf itself takes its name from No. 32 berth of the West Wood Quay of the Import Dock. This was built in 1936 for Fruit Lines Ltd, a subsidiary of Fred Olsen Lines for the Mediterranean and Canary Island fruit trade. At their request, the quay and warehouse were given the name Canary Wharf.[3]

The Canary Wharf of today began when Michael von Clemm, former chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB), came up with the idea to convert Canary Wharf into back office. Further discussions with G Ware Travelstead led to proposals for a new business district. However, Travelstead was unable to fund his project[4] and sold it to Olympia & York.

Construction began in 1988 with the first buildings completed in 1991 which included One Canada Square that became the UK's tallest building and a powerful symbol of the regeneration of Docklands. Upon opening, the London commercial property market had collapsed and Olympia and York Canary Wharf Limited filed for bankruptcy in May 1992.

Address: 7396 Yonge Street, moved to 148 John Street

The David Chapman House at 148 John Street provides historical significance to the Thornhill community. Constructed approximately 1850 at 7396 Yonge Street in what was formerly known as Vaughan Township, this Ontario Vernacular style house is a blend of Classic Revival house of a wooden frame with a Gothic Revival centre gable and pointed arch window. Built by David Chapman himself, the house remained in the Chapman family until 1937, with some remodelling taking place throughout this period. The unique blend of features, including some Gothic Revival and Ontario Classic elements, from different traditions reflects the changing social climate of Thornhill in the mid-19th century. In 1980 the house was moved to its present location on John Street by the Wylie family to save it from demolition. The David Chapman House is considered a rare survivor of the many farmsteads that once lined both sides of Yonge Street and became a designated heritage property in 1982 under the Ontario Heritage Act.

Address: 8961 9th Line

The Benjamin Marr House at 8961 9th Line offers significant historical context into Markham's settler roots. The original Crown grant for the property was granted to William Marr in 1809. The Marrs were a Loyalist family from Pennsylvania, who had originally settled in Niagara in 1801 but moved to Markham in 1809. The Marrs then became a major part of the early Markham community, specifically in the Buttonville area. William Marr served during the War of 1812 and joined the Methodist Church in 1818. William Marr's second son Benjamin purchased 50 acres of the west half of the lot from his father in 1833 and an additional 35 acres in 1846. This two-storey bricked Georgian-Neoclassical-style farmhouse was built approximately 1859 for the Marr family. Benjamin's son Henry, who was a grocer and feed merchant, inherited the property after his father's death in 1862. The property exchanged hands several times until Frederick Bunker purchased it in 1918 and it remained in the Bunker family until 1983. The original house was large in size for this period and reflected the importance of the Marr family in the area. There were later 19th century additions to the rear of the house made from local clay that was common during this time in Markham. This house has a symmetrical three-bay faade and early 20th century porch, which provides an excellent example of a Georgian Neo-Classical farmhouse. The Benjamin Marr house became a designated heritage property in 2001 under the Ontario Heritage Act.

Address: 8030 Warden Avenue, moved to 12 David Gohn Circle

The John Jacob Lunau House was originally located at 8030 Warden Avenue and initially belonged to Joachim Lunau, one of the original Berczy settlers. Joachim sold the property to his youngest son John in 1827. John was a reformer and a personal friend of William Lyon Mackenzie, but did not participate in the Rebellion of 1837 due to his health. This house provides architectural significance to the region as it is a classic Georgian-style cottage with Gothic Revival elements. This one-and-a-half storey cottage has a three-bay front faade and was constructed sometime between 1840 and 1860. The central gable emphasizes the main door's asymmetrical placement. It was originally constructed of unburned clay brick, but was later covered with wood siding. The porch and gothic window style are both recent restorations that help the current house maintain its original look. In 1867, John sold the property to his youngest son Silas. In 1995 this house was moved from its original location on Warden Ave to its current location at 12 David Gohn Circle in the Markham Heritage Estates subdivision due to the construction of the 407 Highway. The John Jacob Lunau House became a designated heritage property in 1999 under the Ontario Heritage Act.

Address: 8028 9th Line, changed to 95 Russell Jarvis Drive

The David Break House at 95 Russell Jarvis Drive was built approximately 1859 by David Break, son of Adam Break. Adam Break purchased Lots 7 and 8 of Concession 8 from John Button in 1808 and lived here with his family. The Break name is associated in early Markham with music, as Adam Break was a well-known local organ maker and composer at the time. When David Break inherited this property in the mid-1800s, he built this two-storey Georgian structure of split rubble fieldstone in 1859 and continued to farm this property. Although a rectangular plan, the window placement and entrance on the front faade is unusual as it is off centre and not symmetrical. The Break family continued to own this property until 1896 when it was sold to Samuel Penny. The David Break House was originally accessed through 8028 Ninth Line, but due to changing property lines and build up around the house, this has changed to 95 Russell Jarvis Drive. In 2001 the David Break House became a designated heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act.
