The museum was founded in 1872 by Ivan Zabelin, Aleksey Uvarov and several other Slavophiles interested in promoting Russian history and national self-awareness. The board of trustees, composed of Sergey Solovyov, Vasily Klyuchevsky, Uvarov and other leading historians, presided over the construction of the museum building. After a prolonged competition the project was handed over to Vladimir Osipovich Shervud (or Sherwood, 1833–97).

The Roman Catholic church of St Charles in Gosforth was built in 1911 (replacing an earlier iron-built structure) and is a handsome building with two small west steeples flanking the main facade and a wide cruciform body culminating in a shallow apse. The interior is partially enlivened by marble-cladding, particularly around the sanctuary.
The outstanding features here however are in glass, principally the two large windows that dominate the north and south transepts, the largest windows in the church and both filled with gloriously rich stained glass by Harry Clarke Studios of Dublin and installed in 1945 (long after the death of Clarke himself and most likely designed by his successor Richard King). The south window depicts the Nativity, whilst that to the north represents the Deposition, with Christ's body being removed from the Cross. There is a further window by the same studio in the south nave clerestorey depicting Christ before Pilate, somewhat smaller and sadly less accessible.
This is a thoroughly rewarding church to visit for lovers of stained glass, though it is best to check with the church about access as it isn't always open outside mass times.

Universally known as Aragonese, it was actually much more ancient, since there is already mention of its existence in 1027, though it must have existed already in 536, probably on a preexisting stronghold of Roman times. The Buonconsiglio Castle, splendid residence of the Prince Bishops and symbol of the city of Trento, is made up of different parts built in different ages: an older one, called Castelvecchio, includes Torre Aquila, with the frescoes of the Cycle of the Months, a masterpiece of Gothic art that takes us to the heart of courtly and peasant life at the end of the 14th century. Then there is a Renaissance part, the Magno Palazzo, commissioned by the Prince Bishop Bernardo Cles and richly frescoed, while another wing of the palace, the Giunta Albertiana, is from the Baroque age. During the First World War the trial against the irredentists Cesare Battisti, Fabio Filzi and Damiano Chiesa was held here.

The land upon which the castle is constructed was purchased by the oil industrialist P. L. Steingel (nephew of the famous Russian railroad builder Baron Rudolf Steingel, a German nobleman who had made a fortune extracting oil in Baku. Baron von Steingel adored the Gothic architectural style, so he ordered the prominent Russian architect Leonid Sherwood to use the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany as an example for the new construction, but to make the building even more fairytale-like.
The available land only measured 20 x 10 meters, so the castle was built up high with turrets, spires and open battlements. Inside the main tower, there were 2 tiny bedrooms. The living room, with a large fireplace and stairs, were brought closer to the “shore” for security reasons. Sherwood made a beautiful toy “copy” of the Gothic Rhine castles but did not take into account that large grottoes were located under the cliff. Behind the balconies, at the edge of the cliff, there was originally a garden, but in 1927 an earthquake occurred, and the rock upon which the castle stood broke: the garden fell into the sea, and one main tower was almost completely destroyed.
The next large-scale reconstruction took place in the 1960s. Originally it was proposed that the castle be dismantled brick by brick and moved “to the mainland”, however, this idea was abandoned. The Soviet architect Tatiev was responsible for the eventual reconstruction and the Swallow’s Nest was “rebuilt” with the entire castle being dismantled with each brick numbered and then reassembled on an earthquake-resistant slab placed on top of the rock.

Внутри дома разместились прихожая, гостиная с большими окнами, лестница, ведущая на башню, и две спальни.
Барон В. Штейнгель продал дом в 1914 году и уехал из России. Новый хозяин открыл в «Ласточкином гнезде» ресторан, который успешно работал.
Угроза над постройкой нависла во время землетрясения 1927 года, когда обрушилась часть скалы. К счастью, здание устояло, но была частично разрушена башня и пострадала смотровая площадка. Pretty much everyone who visits the south of France stops off in Carcasonne. This small town is famous for its absolutely well-preserved medieval old town, with city walls, towers and so on. Unfortunately, you are never alone there and one tourist trap follows another. It's a little quieter in the church, which can easily stand comparison with other places of worship.

The Galleria built between 1865 and 1877 is formed by two arcades shaped like a Latin cross covered by a glass and iron dome. The structure of the Galleria is 32 metres high, comprises 353 tonnes of iron utilised for the skeleton of the cover, and its octagonal-shaped roof reaches a height of 47 metres. If you walk around the galleries, the central dome has a stunning mosaic that represents the continents of Asia, Africa, Europe and America.

The “floating” holiday huts stand on stilts in the local lake, the waters unique because they will not freeze in winter due to heat generated by a nearby power plant. This makes the lake suitable for fishing year round, to the delight of local anglers.

I lost my Polarizing filter while taking this shot. I took it off because I liked the hazy conditions and accidentally dropped it.
Later that day (after work) during sunset I went and visited that spot again and guess what I found? That and the awesome sunset conditions really made my day!
