After 3 days of building, with help from thousands of little hands, we completed a brilliant build of a Lewis Chessman in today. It took 91,000 pieces of LEGO® to make this giant figure. We also needed all the energy and enthusiasm that came from all our helpers. So thanks for joining us in the Big Build.

Our museum has been filled with inspiring colour and creativity this week. The Builders Yard on Level 2 has welcomed thousands of mini-builders, who have been busy creating a daily display of their work.

LEGO® builders often have to solve the same problems as architects designing real buildings, as features such as arches, trusses and cantilevers are just as technically challenging. Imagination is the key and this is just a small selection of some of the builds we spotted in our Builders Yard yesterday.

Builders Yard is running until Sunday 21 February as part of our BUILD IT! half-term activities at the National Museum of Scotland. www.nms.ac.uk/buildithalfterm

Our free Built It! display continues until 17 April.

Naito Parkway, just behind ODOT. This vital connection between the riverfront and Old Town, Portland is long overdue for a crosswalk and traffic signal. Here a person crosses the street while a freight train passes in front of the automobiles.

Clearly, people are already using this "preferred path" without any support. This will remain a precarious, potentially dangerous situation that warrants a better infrastructural solution. In fact, the plans are already there. Why isn't it built?
