Messing around in photoshop today. This bug pattern is hurting my eyes so I have to stop. This may get worked into a mosaic, I am not sure. A few projects to finish first.

Bug orgy bush. Stopped to check out where the sweet perfume on the wind was coming from and found it coming from this bush. Then I noticed that it was covered with bugs. Then I noticed that all of the bugs were getting down... guess the scent is like and aphrodisiac to them.

This is a Western Conifer Seed Bug (aka Cedar Bug) viewed through the glass of the patio door.

This three-quarter inch brown colored bug has the habit of entering buildings in the late summer or early fall as it seeks a protected site to spend the winter. These bugs do not bite or sting, and they cause no damage to the home. They do not reproduce in the home nor do they feed once inside your home. They live off fat reserves and during the cool season they are semidormant. They will give off a pungent odor if you handle them and they also make a buzzing sound when flying.

These bugs produce a strong sickly sweet odour and excrete it though their rear end. It’s their version of a chemical weapon used to discourage predators. They are members of a larger group of insects known as the stinkbugs, some of which are much more stinky than our local representatives. Attracted by their own smell, seed bugs sometimes congregate in large numbers as a defensive strategy to intensify the effect of the release of a small amount of odour by individual bugs.

What cyclists sometimes eat...whether they want to or not !

This little moucheron hitched a ride on me during a short cylce trip.

My wife wonders why I can't just take a picture. I think this one looks cooler than just a picture of a bug on concrete

What do you call these? I grew up calling them potato bugs. A friend insists they are called Roly Polys. I've also heard them called Mealy Bugs, Pea Shooters or Pea Bugs.

Hawthorn shield bug, Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale. This shows more of the overall bug than the previous shot, but I don't like the colour or level of detail quite as much.

Handy shield bug guide for ID here.
