Update ... turns out this is the 2nd record for Jersey rather than the 1st!! Just found out that Simon Robson recorded one previously tho was originally erronously ID'd as E. dominulus but is in fact E. ornata (his photo is on the British Bugs website under E. ornata) and the Channel Islands records only at present show ornata recorded on Guernsey and none on Jersey.

While walking around Havana we saw many old cars, mostly classic American vehicles in various states of repair. This wonderfuly maintained classic VW Bug trundled down the road and I had to take a pic.

These red bugs seem to be everywhere lately.

Not sure what this little guy is called, but as kids, we always called them "stink bugs".

This bug was sitting outside my door the other day. I thought it had cool colors.

I've started paying down my high debt credit card finally. Today was payday, so I was able to drop that by nearly two grand. Hoping to get it down to only ("only") four digits by the end of this month.

Andean Beetles, clearly the maroon one is earlier but this is the extent of my knowledge.

This is the way Spencer looks most of the time. Big bug eyes and looking a bit like he is on drugs. The next set of pictures is of everyone trying to copy Spencer's bug-eyed look. Very funny!

I haven't done any marco shots in a distant memory lol. So here it is...I found this bug in the backyard and put my marco equipments to work.

The set ups :

extension tubes

4x Olympus objective

marco mechanicism device

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6

an adapter ring

3 LED lights

I don't usually do insects, but this one was in my window, looking like he wanted to come in.

Why do they want to come in the house? Once they're inside, they feel trapped and start banging their head against the screen.

This was shot this morning. Since then, he's never moved. I think he died, as he looks droopy.

I did not use any bug spray on him.

These small bugs wander around on the sand, settling in small depressions. I watched one sift the sand for food, using its front legs. It also created a depression in the sand to hide in. When they sit still they are almost impossible to see, especially when they have sand grains on their backs.

Other species of these live in and around wetlands.
