I passed this scene on Cartier Avenue in Pointe-Claire and had to stop to do a very quick sketch. The booms on the bucket trucks were all moving back and forth ever so slowly, like giant praying mantises or daddy long legs in the sky.
Last night I had a dream that I was supposed to watch my neighbor's cats for a week but I forgot. I woke up feeling a little disturbed. I walked to the beach to get away from that feeling. Anyway, some kids were playing with this bucket set up. They had little nets and were scooping up tiny fish into the buckets. The mom said I could take some shots but not of the kids. I guess she could tell I was a disturbed cat neglecter :) Taken for our daily challenge - one chair
Huh? Another from Scientific American. I have no idea what it was used for but in 1881 1,500,000 were in daily use somewhere!
OK this makes more sense now. This is one bucket in a series of buckets that carries some material from one level to another. Like a grain elevator. That's how so many were in use. Dozens could be employed in one piece of equipment. I was thinking people lifting elevators!
This time of year many people hang buckets on the trees, drill a hole in the trunk, and collect the sap to make Maple Syrup, one of the most important products of our region.
50 gallons of sap and several hours of boiling equal one gallon of syrup. The weather conditions have to be just right for the "sap to run". The night temperatures have to be below freezing, and the day temperatures above freezing. Rain helps. In recent years tent caterpillars have plagued maple forests making the trees less productive, more prone to disease, or killing the trees outright. These reasons are why it is so expensive.
Yesterday I bought a gallon of syrup from my good friend who has a "sugar bush" or forest of maples. It cost $30. American dollars. That is on the lower end of the scale as to cost. But I am sure you can see why it is like liquid gold.

FGR- Bucket List (2/20/08)
Last fall I did an internship in Washington D.C. with a senator. He took us to lunch one day and he told us of a family tradition, where each family member has a list of 100 things they want to accomplish in their lifetime. When they accomplish one of the things they put it on another list, so when they are having a bad day they can look at the list and see all that they have accomplished, The list always has to be 100 long, so when they finish one they have to add another. As you can see I am working on my list, its not that easy, I need to finish it!
Don't know if you have a bucket list or planning to make one for 2012 but this is a great example ;-)
Thanks for all the beautiful photo's the joy and the comment on Flickr.
have a great 2012
I bought the maya*made burlap bucket pattern 1.5 years ago and finally made two fabric buckets!!
The Waldorf School bucket is made from a jute tote bag from the school--for my brother's family.
The green one is made from a semi felted wool sweater and a linen trees shower curtain--for my daughter's teacher.
Now to make some for my family!
This moron in town is building a car wash near all these brand new houses. They've been trying to build this since last year. Everybody hopes it never opens.
I drove by one morning and saw that they took the KFC bucket from the KFC/Taco Bell that recently was demolished. I wonder what they're going to do with it.
This little bucket is full of chocolate and my wife has warned not t even think of taking anything from it 😉

This is a bucket filled with piss! Realty West does not provide their workers with a proper bathroom so they are forced to create their own. The bucket was a great idea but smelled awful and sat in the basement for over a month before the dumped it into our garden. Looks like they drink beer while the play with power tools also. Awesome!
Complete with Cherry Picker Bucket, truck stabilizers, Dumping bed. Chipper with open shoot, and safety bar.
Almost finished. Just have to add the lining (which will be that yellow fabric underneath). From Chase's lovely tutorial.
