Lightning at the Grand Canyon has long been my "holy grail" bucket list photo. I've been at it for more than a decade, with little more than a couple decent photos to show for it. Conditions change rapidly at the Canyon. Even at the height of summer, temperatures often plummet into the 40's and 50's at the Rim, making nocturnal lightning even rarer.

A fun little T-bucket just in time for Halloween.

BLM Winter Bucket List #9: Cosumnes River Preserve, California, for the Trumpet and Dance of the Sandhill Crane

The Cosumnes River Preserve is home to California’s largest remaining valley oak riparian forest, and is one of the few protected wetland habitat areas in the state.

Nestled in the heart of California’s Central Valley, the Preserve is a critical stop on the Pacific Flyway for migrating and wintering waterfowl. Over 250 species of birds have been sighted on or near the Preserve, including the Swainson hawk, Canada geese, numerous ducks, and Sandhill cranes.

Sandhill cranes - gray-colored birds with red caps - stand up to 5 feet tall and have a wing span of 6 to 7 feet. They fly in for winter to fatten up, and perform acrobatic mating dances. A must for the bucket list of any bird watcher.

With the start of this new year, is your bucket half full or half empty?

haven't posted anything in a while. This is a page for my illo book

Good growth. Last year, Rus, planted 10 buckets and got around 200lbs. This year I've planted 20 buckets with a goal of 400lbs. On average it's said, we each, eat around 125lbs/year. From the size of my ass, it would seem, I'm encroaching on another person's portion.

Reminded me of a song...

"Buckets of rain

Buckets of tears

Got all them buckets comin' out of my ears

Buckets of moonbeams in my hand

The obligatory shot of the fire buckets. I think everyone who's ever been on the Watercress Line has photographed them, I didn't want to be left out :)
