Habitat shot of an Indian vulture or Long billed vulture (Gyps indicus). In South Asia three Gyps species, the Asian white-backed vulture (G. bengalensis), the long-billed vulture (G. indicus), and the slender-billed vulture (G. tenuirostris), have been brought close to extinction by feeding on the carcasses of dead cattle that had been given pain-killing drugs; the pain killers cause kidney failure in the vultures.

In the sunlight all the beautiful iridescent colouring comes out, a lovely bird, the humble Starling. Was flattered when one brought its 'baby and fed it on my feeders.
“And Mary brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” (Luke 2:7).

The photograph here is one of the most widely published in 2025. It was taken in the completely destroyed Gaza by Abdel Kareem Hana of Associated Press. Hana is not only a superb documentary photographer, but a truly brave human being putting his life on the line to bring the truth to the world of the consequences of this one-sided war on Gaza. He was also given the International Photography Award in 2025 for his series “Children of Gaza: Surrounded by War”.
I have taken a great liberty in adding the small nativity scene here. But I do so to honour Abdel Kareem Hana and the children of Gaza, who have had to witness scenes of utter devastation they neither deserved, nor should have experienced, because of these war crimes.

“Then Herod (the Jewish king), when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. In the legend of the nativity of the baby Jesus, three wise men came from the East (perhaps Persia, and maybe even as far as India). They were astrologers who had read the signs in the heavens that a new king was to be born in Judea. As men of diplomatic note, the wise men found the Jewish king Herod and informed him of their desire to find this special baby to honour him. Herod told the men that when they found the babe they should inform him of the whereabouts so that he too could pay homage. But the canny wise men knew what the jealous Herod was up to and did not return with the news. As a result a slaughter of innocents took place throughout the region, and only because the angel of the Lord had warned Joseph did the holy family escape to Egypt so that the baby Jesus’ life was spared.
Most children in Gaza are born into Muslim families, and they are also taught to respect the baby Jesus. What many Christians don’t understand is that there are many references to the prophet Jesus in the Quran and they are all respectful and honour him (and believe in a virginal conception). Here is the account of the nativity:
“When the angels said, ‘O Mary, truly God gives thee glad tidings of a Word from Him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, high honored in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought nigh. He will speak to people in the cradle and in maturity, and will be among the righteous.’ She said, ‘My Lord, how shall I have a child while no human being has touched me?’ He said, ‘Thus does God create whatsoever He will.’ When He decrees a thing, He only says to it, ‘Be!’ and it is. And He will teach Him (Jesus) the Book, Wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel. And He will be a messenger to the Children of Israel.” (Surah Al Imran 3: 45-49).
I am not going to make a speech here about the current sad state of our world at the Christmas of 2025. Anyone who thinks seriously and ethically about what it means to be fully human should understand these issues. And every Christian should ask themselves in the light of their Gospels, what would Jesus have me to think and do? But equally, let me warn anyone who dares to use that now inflammatory phrase showing up in reactionary rallies, “Christ is King”, that you are judged not according to what you think about Jesus, but how your life reflects his Truth. As the adult Jesus said so potently, “Not everyone who says they follow me does, for by their fruit you will know them.” Only those who do what Jesus instructed us to do (Matthew chapters 5-7) can be called his disciples. So if there is hatred in your heart, deception and violent thoughts, a turning of a blind eye to cruelty, a lack of care for the poor and the outcast, a rejection of the immigrant and outsider, a belief in the superiority of your race or religion, then please understand this: You are not of Jesus Christ!
For Jesus blessed the little children 2000 years ago, and in the same way today would bless every innocent child, and especially those that are being slaughtered in the name of some false religious and political ideals.
That tiny baby born in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago, whose life was threatened directly by the then Jewish king, understands fully that every child - and especially those in war-torn regions - deserves the love and compassion of us all. If we can’t summon that in our hearts, then we are not ethical human beings created in the image of God. And may God have mercy on your soul.
Blessing and Peace to all the Earth, so that Joy may reign in our communities.
So for this image I brought out the 16-35mm f/2.8L IS wide-angle lens in order to get ALL the city in the frame, even the Blues Point Tower, but also the W-Hotel in Darling Harbour.
Anyway, this is the view from the rainforest on Balls Head Reserve, at Waverton. I love this location in Sydney because you can drive right up to the headland and park amid the forest.
You get out of the car to be greeted by a squadron of Brush Turkeys that follow you everywhere!! After evading these wild turkeys you can select one of the many vantage points which give uninterrupted views of all the city.
Mind you, you do share the view with King Parrots, Rainbow Lorikeets (far too many of them, lol), Crimson Rosellas and a big army of Wattlebirds.

I brought this guitar for $150 in a second hand instrument shop in Melbourne in 2001. I then carried it all around Australia, New Zealand, back to the UK, here and there. Always in a soft case. It has stood up to it well. It is not a well known brand, but I love the sound and the playability of it. Currently, it is on hand for my study breaks...
...because Sher (Little Red Raggedy) brought them to my house at the EXACT moment that we were all watching Colorado Balloon Boy "float" over the sky in the flying saucer that looked like a big Jiffy Pop container! haha! Sher and I were mesmerized! We couldn't take our eyes off the TV screen! We watched the soft landing in the field. THEN as soon as they said...the boy isn't there...I said to Sher...what if it is a HOAX! AND sure enough...hoax it is! This all happened not so far from my house...and quite near where Sher lives! How embarrassing to have Colorado in the news in THIS way!
Of course, I won't name them Jiffy or Pop! haha...but I might name them Emelia and Earhart! :D

I brought myself a Ghillie Cover today as camouflage for wildlife photography. Testing it out in my back garden and the birds would come to about 3-4 feet from me with no problems at all. This Red Legged Partridge was probably around 8 feet from me in this shot though. So it seems my camouflage was working just fine, more fun to be had.
I brought this book in the late 1960s. My brother-in-law (a bookbinder) recovered it for me. Its my go-to comfort read.

Strong winds from west had brought ridged ice from the sea all the way to the shore, where the waterfront was already slightly frozen. With the help of strong winds, the ice had made it's way to the shore. Reaching the shore they clamped up into 3-4m high ice piles. A true power demonstration. This was couple of years ago. I hope to see something like that soon again! ;)

It is named after Italian botanist Francesco Zantedeschi.
The Zantedeschia species are very poisonous, capable of killing livestock and children.
All parts of the plant are toxic, and produce irritation and swelling of the mouth and throat, acute vomiting and diarrhea.
All species are endemic to southern Africa.

I thought you should all be brought up to speed with a story (sorry reportage) that has broken over the last couple of days, Cornwall is to build a satellite launch system at Newquay Airport, currently being developed overseas🚀
You may have heard Hugh Edwards mention this on News at Ten a few nights ago.
This system intends to despatch rockets into space from under the wing of a converted Typhoon jet.
Now who do we know that has such an aircraft, yes our very own H & H,🐎🐷 the one they bought on eBay.

They have their daily space flights to Mars, which has taken off well, there is the time travel division of the company, yes I know Horace has only just cut the roof off the Jensen Interceptor, however we did seem to loose twelve days recently !!
Horace also has his after dinner speaking duties, the village vicar has booked him for the foreseeable future, and of course Hoof has his sports consultancy business, the courts at Wimbledon will look the best ever this year, and he is hoping to have the new roof on No 1 court finished for the opening of the tournament this year, wow !!! 🎾🎾🎾

Enjoyed an hour or so learning to edit with layers in GIMP. Added some spotlight, removed some reflections, brought back some lost detail in the "YAMAHA"
Having brought this train down from Ayer the conductor climbs into the cab for one last time before bidding farewell to the pride of his former employer's fleet. Unless by some highly improbable miracle that CSXT chooses to keep these for their OCS fleet it is not likely he'll ever see them again.
This is CSXT train M427 destined from Rigby Yard to Selkirk where the duo will catch a ride south to Waycross, GA home of CSXT's office car fleet. Momentarily paused at New Bond street at the south end of the former Pan Am Worcester Main, the ST crew has tied down the equipment where it will be fueled and wait until early afternoon when the CSXT Boston Line crew will come get it for the journey west across the old Boston and Albany.
While looking resplendent in fresh paint, CSXT AC4400CW 235 is a veteran herself more than a quarter century old having been built by GE in Jul. 1996. But that still makes her nearly four decades PAR2's junior as she was built by GMDD in Jan. 1957 as CN 6516.

Jasper brought out his ring toy last night and I couldn't resist using it as a crown. A crown befitting the Ottoman Emperor for sure.
I tried capturing the classic ring toy pose - the one where he's got a hold of one side of the ring in his mouth, his nose is sticking through the hole and the other side of the ring is covering his eyes. All the while he's snorting. But low light and frantic grab for the camera just resulted in blurry messes. Oh well.
