Been staying inside for the past couple of weeks, so here’s one from the Archives. It was a beautiful crisp morning when I spotted this little Guy having breakfast on top of a fence. I liked the way the morning sun backlighted Its tail… Brought a Smile, but then I’m easy to please : )

I’ve brought home many of these plants over the years and usually end up throwing them in the trash when they stop blooming. But this time, I did a little research on YouTube that brought forth information on how to bring one of these plants back to life. I tried the suggestions and here is the result.

The Mrs. often reminds me that everything is a bit easier when the instructions are followed : )

The Phalaenopsis:

Phalaenopsis, also known as moth orchids, is a genus of about seventy species of plants in the family Orchidaceae. Orchids in this genus are monopodial epiphytes or lithophytes with long, coarse roots, short, leafy stems and long-lasting, flat flowers arranged in a flowering stem that often branches near the end.

Watching this Bumblebee search for nectar brought to mind that axiom... "Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy"

The Bumblebee:

Bumblebees are social insects that form colonies with a single queen. The colonies are smaller than those of honeybees, growing to as few as 50 individuals in a nest. Cuckoo bumblebees are brood parasitic and do not make nests or form colonies; their queens aggressively invade the nests of other bumblebee species, kill the resident queens and then lay their own eggs, which are cared for by the resident workers.

Bumblebees have round bodies covered in soft hair called 'pile', making them appear and feel fuzzy. They have warning coloration, often consisting of contrasting bands of color.

Like their relatives the honeybees, bumblebees feed on nectar, using their long hairy tongues to lap up the liquid; the proboscis is folded under the head during flight. Bumblebees gather nectar to add to the stores in the nest, and pollen to feed their young.

They forage using color and spatial relationships to identify flowers to feed from. Some bumblebees steal nectar, making a hole near the base of a flower to access the nectar while avoiding pollen transfer. Bumblebees are important agricultural pollinators, so their decline in Europe, North America, and Asia is a cause for concern. The decline has been caused by habitat loss, the mechanization of agriculture, and pesticides.

I brought the fish finder out for some fun on the ice this afternoon. That black box behind the bluegill shows you exactly where the fish are located below the hole drilled through two feet of ice. Just like playing a video game, the goal is to position your bait, which you can also see on the screen, right in front of a fish and hope it bites. These beautiful bluegills go back in the lake to bite again another time.

Flowers brought home from a walk. There were a lot of them this year.

The rain window was from another day.

Father Bluebird brought his baby into my backyard for breakfast. Baby got plenty to eat and I got a heartwarming view. It was a good day.

The Western Bluebird:

Male Western Bluebirds are shiny blue above with rust-orange extending from a vest on the breast onto the upper back. Females are gray-buff with a pale orange wash on the breast and blue tints to the wings and tail. The throat is blue in males and gray-buff in females, and the lower belly is whitish.

Bluebirds are highly social, and usually feed in flocks during the non-breeding season. They hunt for terrestrial insects by dropping to the ground from a low perch. Western Bluebirds also frequently feed on berries in trees. Western Bluebirds rely on trees both for nesting cavities and hunting perches, and also perch on fences and utility lines.

.... also, I prefer this Kodak TX film stock. Nice BW contrast and great gray dynamics.

I brought Mom some Tulips and mixed them with some winter greens I picked to brighten her room. I was getting rid of them and decided to take a few cell phone shots. I put a dark box behind and have natural window light. (My phone doesn't take the best of shots, but I like it none the less) Mom loved it. (She is still in hospital, progessing very slowly FYI)

First brought to North America by Shakespeare enthusiasts in the nineteenth century, European Starlings are now among the continent’s most numerous songbirds. This little murmur (this is only a few from that flock) flew through our pastures some weeks ago and I got a good look at them when I took this shot. I was surprised to see that each of them was distinguishable from the other!

I brought a peacock feather home from a visit to our local zoo because Cleo likes feathers and I hoped that it would be useful for her daily exercise. It's already good news that she doesn't just turn around and leave when I try to play with her with the feather although she makes sure that she doesn't have to move much more than her paw. We have a long way to go ....

The 17th day brought me from Flam to Vik! A very busy day with even more very changeable weather. Rain, dark and grey in the morning, then when arriving at Stalheim suddenly clearing skies (pics later), and after that threatening skies again. Soon after I had arrived in Vik, and had put up my tent it started to rain heavily, clearing up again to give me this landscape around blue hour. What I didn't realize then was that the good days were finally over, from this day on the weather was very unstable, and forced me to look different at my surroundings to see other sorts of beauty!

It is my favourite fjord btw Sognefjord, vast/immense and great sightings! Enjoy!

Lovely valleys, bare mountains and cold winds, snow packs, glaciers, beautiful lakes, and then there are the enchanting fjords that never stop to amaze. The most beautiful country of Europe, for me no doubt about that, with only one minor aspect, which is the weather. During my month of traveling I only had 4 really nice days, the rest of the time clouds, rain, and very changeable! Still no regret, and I will go back to make even more than the 3500 pictures that I took this time.

Brought an almond branch into the studio. And if you have too many lenses, you're spoiled for choice. The f1.7/25mm lens is actually my lens for street photography. Since you can get close, I used it today just for fun.

Mal einen Mandelzweig ins Studio geholt. Und wenn man zu viele Objektive hat, hat man die Qual der Wahl. Das f1,7/25 mm Objektiv ist eigentlich mein Objektiv für Streetaufnahmen. Da man nah ran kann, habe ich spaßeshalber heute mal eingesetzt.

Blondie brought her kids around last night for the first time. She has five of them. Now we know why she was always resting when she got here. Five kids will definitely tucker you out. This one was very adventurous. Mom had to come to the rescue a few times. This one walked right up to another adult and did not heed the growls it was getting as a warning so it got swatted in the face. Blondie came running to the little ones rescue and flattened the other adult and that basically was the end of that. Hopefully lesson learned by all.

brought to me yesterday evening by my Timmy :-) He always let her run for a moment in the living room and then caught her again. I was able to catch her with a glass and of course she was quickly snapped before I let her out in front of the house :-) Hopefully I didn't hurt her tail with the glass.

I locked Timmy in the living room for this time. He then looked disappointed that I didn't properly appreciate his gift. He had probably thought that we could chase the mouse together in the living room ;-)
