One of a flock of 70 or so birds that turned up to feed on trees in the car park of the local Miners Welfare Club, which were part of the major irruption to Britain in winter 2016/2017. I remember seeing the sighting on Facebook Notts Birders page at 10:30 am that morning and made a rapid dash up there in the car that lunchtime, for a very entertaining and fairly fruitful afternoon's photography; all the more entertaining (?!) for having to look out for and dodge welfare club members driving in (and out!) from time to time.

Race Rocks Lighthouse was built in 1860 and is the second oldest lighthouse on the Canadian Pacific coast. It cast its first beam of light on December 26, 1860.
It is the only lighthouse on BC’s coast that is constructed of stone. Most of the stone that makes up the tower was quarried in Scotland, while the top third is made from sandstone from nearby Gabriola Island.
One of the most striking features of the lighthouse is its black and white stripes, something no other nearby lighthouses have.
The Canadian Coast Guard automated the lighthouse in 1997. Victoria-based Pearson College continues to staff the station. (orcaspirit.com)

If you squint, you can see two tiny triangles in the calmer section of water just below the house on the island. This was our only view of Harbour Porpoises!

Somewhere between Vancouver and Fort St. John we crossed these beautiful snow-covered mountains. I took advantage of a break in the cloud cover to capture this image shortly before dusk.

The reason for the name ‘Cathedral Grove’ becomes immediately obvious only a few minutes into visiting. Soaring towards the sky, these huge trees form their own beautiful cathedral of nature.
Featuring a magnificent temperate rainforest with enormous 800 year old trees, a carpet of ferns and draping moss, Cathedral Grove is an essential stop on any Vancouver Island road trip.
Officially known as MacMillan Provincial Park, the trees in Cathedral Grove are amongst the oldest and tallest in Canada.
It’s a humbling experience to stand next to these incredibly tall and gnarled tree trunks, some as wide as a car. The tree canopy is up to 80 metres high in places, with the sky a distant proposition. As you walk through the forest, beams of sunlight filter through the branches above, illuminating so many layers of green.
This incredible forest filled with Douglas fir, Western Hemlock, Grand fir and Western Red Cedar trees is the most easily accessible grove of old growth on Vancouver Island. (offtracktravel.ca)

Les rames TMST au son caractéristique que l'on entendait ronronner au loin bien avant de les voir, et qui assuraient cette relation depuis ses débuts en 1997, ont été remplacées par les rames Vélaro en 2020.
Pour la saison d'hiver 2022/2023 le parcours de l'Eurostar 9094 a changé, il est passé par la ligne à voie unique de Saint-André-le-Gaz alors qu'il a circulé pendant des années (voir toujours) en passant par Culoz.

Bangor railway station is a railway station in Bangor, Gwynedd, operated by Transport for Wales Rail. The station, which is 24+3⁄4 miles east of Holyhead, is the last mainland station on the North Wales Coast line between Crewe and Holyhead.
Tulameen is a small community in southwestern British Columbia on Otter Lake. The small town is the second place after the steep grades of the Coquihalla Canyon and Pass. A coal mine in the area was useful to rail company operations and the town was a regular stopping place for taking on coal and water during the steam era. The abandoned rail bed on the right side of the lake is a hiking, biking, and horse-riding trail known as the Trans Canada Trail or TCT.

The sun was waning as the lights came on at this impressive Provincial government center.

The Parliament Buildings are located on the banks of the Inner Harbour in British Columbia’s capital city, Victoria. As one of the dominant features of the downtown core, B.C.’s government buildings are one of Victoria’s must-see sights, teeming with history and culture. They reside on 12.5 acres of lush property. The Empress Hotel is nearby.
Staying in the area until sun sets is highly recommended. The Parliament Buildings will eventually light up with approximately 3500 energy efficient lightbulbs, highlighting the striking outline of the structure, and making for a great photo opportunity.
Incredibly, the original idea for the lightbulbs was first brought to life in 1897 when the buildings were first completed. This was a time when electricity was still a novel phenomenon. While fewer than there are today, the lightbulbs were strung in honour of Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee, as they were supposed to look like diamonds shining brightly in the darkness. The idea was brought back in the 1960s, and since then, the buildings have been lit every single evening at dusk." victoriabc.ca

The mighty Rockies around Edelweiss, Golden BC area. These are shots i never got around to posting from our trip to Golden a couple of years ago - right now it's cold and wet and cloudy - so it's not a good time for photoshopping.
Britains rarest bird of prey the Montagu`s Harrier flew over Dungeness RSPB just giving me time for a few shots . Montagu’s Harriers winter in Africa and return to Europe to nest, often in agricultural fields,. After a high of nine successful nests in 2011, Britain’s breeding population of Montagu’s Harriers sadly dwindled, and in 2021 they were officially placed on the UK Red List of Birds of Conservation Concern. But this year, a pair arrived in the UK and have successfully raised four healthy youngsters. This Bird is not one of these juveniles but rather from somewhere else as the 4 youngsters were rung for identification in the future .
