Since I was 17, first date, first kiss, first everything, I really hoped we would be together forever. It's been a nightmare the last 4 months.
Last week he told me he wanted to stay with me forever, to start a family and move in together and everything.
But after that, where did he go? No more calls? No voice mails? Is he dead? Instantly going back to the way things were.
Or just another pie-crust promise. Easily made, easily broken.
This relationship has dragged out way too long. 3 years, I think I've had it.
I'm an adult now, and I can't see it happening this way any more, and I refuse to accept that this is the way things should be.

This Kimmel & Forster lithograph symbolically depicts the breakup of the Union at the start of the Civil War. Although there is no description of the image, the following is my interpretation of the scene depicted:
In the Center are the personifications of Liberty and Justice standing on the broken shackles of slavery and the rock of the nation that has begun to fracture. Liberty is depicted with a Phrygian cap symbolizing freedom and a bare breast symbolizing purity. She also holds the national flag surmounted by a bald eagle holding a lightning bolt. To the left, Justice glares at those who would defy the Constitution and holds aloft the scales of Justice and the sword of retribution.
In the left foreground Secretary of War John B. Floyd, who was indicted for malfeasance in office in December 1860, scoops up ill-gotten gold. (Although the indictment was overruled in 1861 on technical grounds, and there is no proof that he purposely sent arms to the Southern States in anticipation of hostilities or that he personally profited from his government dealings, nonetheless there was a widespread public perception that he sold out the Union. Floyd later went on to serve as a general in the Confederate Army.)
Next to Floyd, President James Buchanan is depicted as sleeping though the crisis during his lame-duck period after the election and before the inauguration of Abraham Lincoln. Buchanan denied the legal right of states to secede but held that the federal government legally could not prevent them. He did nothing to address the secession crisis as it unfolded.
On the far left, a crowned snake climbs the palmetto tree of South Carolina ad spits venom at Liberty and Justice. Immediately below the snake, Confederate vice president and president Alexander Stephens and Jefferson Davis pull down the flag of the Union while the crowd tear at it as they take up muskets in armed rebellion.
On the right, new president Abraham Lincoln, with Winfield Scott, General in Chief of the Army at his side, calls on loyal citizens to rally to the nation’s defense. Some men pour out treasure in support while others rush to take up arms. Meanwhile women and children mourn the tragedy and destruction to come.
