By the time that winter hits Canada every year, the number of people interested in portraits really, really drops. It's cold, you have to wade through deep snow to get to a good spot, etc... Some of you may have seen the portrait of me last week modeling the Moon Camera Straps. I was going for a hipster look to suit the brand, with the sleeves rolled up and all that. What the picture didn't show was that it was -25C outside and that I was completely freezing. So, when you see winter portraits as a part of my lens reviews, it is because somebody is crazy enough (in this case my daughter) to brave the elements and pose for me. This portrait was taken earlier in the winter. If I were to shoot a portrait here right now, she would be up to nearly her waist in snow. P.S. the Samyang AF 35mm F1.4 is a nice portrait lens for a reasonable price. Text Review: bit.ly/sam1435AFda

A great egret and a gadwall were on the flooded spillway. Even on a gloomy day the rushing white water makes a pretty background for the birds.

Mule Days, Columbia, TN
Pony mule teams in the pulling contest. This pair of mules weighed less than 1,000 lbs. combined and were attempting to pull 1400 lbs. ten feet. They are judged on a percentage of weight pulled to their weight. The winner of this contest pulled around 2.8, I believe. These mules are so hyper that they start pulling almost the moment they are hooked up. It usually takes 2 or 3 men to handle them.
With chilly nights and shorter days it's been too cool for most of the butterflies and dragonflies in the gardens. But this bright red male Autumn Meadowhawk (Odonate sympetrum vicinum) was there last evening following us and catching the last bit of light. :)
I enjoyed watching this little owlet hop around the entrance of his nest cavity as he prepared to fledge. About 15 minutes after this photo was taken, he took his first brazen step into an unforgiving world where he will fight beak and talon to secure his place as one of the most formidable predators of the forest. Good luck little dude, as well as to your sibling!

We can't see it but the Egret is monitoring a second crocodile hidden in the water... less than a metre from its feet.
If those that work with cows are known as cattle egrets these should be named "Brave". Very brave.
I unittentinally named Merida... Merida... gave her red hair... and green eyes... right as Brave came out. Really, unintentional. her name was going to be Meridith, but after that went off the books, Merida sounded similar. I thought that was the name of my babysitter as a child, turns out her name was Nerida. Oh wellsies.
Her eyes aren't green anymore though, they're amber, to go with the firey theme. I got this top from Dorset on Etsy, and I figured it matched her hair perfectly! I did a crappy mockup of a skirt and underbust for a friend, and after trying them on I had to take a picture ;0; OR TWENTY. Love this girl, and I can't wait until she doesn't have to share her body with Anouk ;~;
MORE PICS OF OTHER THINGS SOON.
De jeunes hommes mais aussi jeunes filles promènent les touristes dans cette rue de Tokyo malgré un soleil de plomb et certains clients vraiment lourds,il faut bien gagner sa vie.

This stonechat was flying around the beach without a care in the world. You wouldn’t think there was a storm raging against the beach at White Rock in Killiney. It was a nice surprise. PS the stonechat is stood on the log!
With nothing new to post I have been reduced to playing around with an old photo again ...
But if the weather is good tomorrow I hope to find some new inspiration ...

The Felixstowe Christmas day dip was cancelled because of the inclement weather, some braved the waves and the cold regardless.
London, Millenium Bridge.
I gave this picture the title "Brave New World", because as I read the novel "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, it created a image of that world in my mind which was somehow similar to this picture here.
