Do you know our earth is a mess

All the wars for nothing, it never ends

Everybody deserves a chance

All the souls, all the souls, can you hear them cry?

That you livein peace does not mean

It's okey to ignore all the pain

I see children joining the stars

Solders walk towards the dark, let me ask

Can you justify all the eyes

That will never see daylight

Give me one good reason to hurt

A helpless soul, break a heart, kill a mind.

Do you know how many innocents

Are hiding from punishment

For crimes they'd never commit

All alone, all alone, do they deserve

To die for believing something else,

For having a face someone can't stand

Do you know our earth is a mess

All the wars for nothing, it never ends

All the souls, all alone, hold them tight

All the souls, deserve a chance at life

Within the last 5 or so miles of their trip remaining, the UP LSB54 local is about to run into a nice sized storm near Villa Grove. The crew will soon get out into the elements to yard the train. On the point is UP 1427, a unit of SP heritage still sporting its nose headlight. The nose headlight is becoming a rarity on UP’s GP40-2 fleet as they are relocating the light to the top of the cab and putting “baby wings” on the nose.

Two mallards came for a visit. No greens here, just crystal clear water, but this drake, in particular, seemed to be at home with the place.

Thank you to Tom, for reminding me every day. <3

"You can dance like Beyoncé

You can shake like Shakira

Cause you're brave, yeah, you're fearless

And you're beautiful, you're beautiful

So whine like Rihanna

Go and pose like Madonna

Cause you're brave, yeah, you're honest

And you're beautiful, you're beautiful, girl.."

Hi, Me again...

In April 2021, I received my first 35mm as a gift from a fellow photography enthusiast. I seriously had no idea what I was doing but I immeditely knew I enjoyed it. The sound alone was enough to give me shivers!! Since then, I have shot a few rolls of film, find myself in possession of 5 new cameras, managed to process 2 rolls at home, 'scan', and now I'm ready to put them out there.

I don't ever profess to be a perfect photographer. If fact, I'm usually incredibly insecure. Digital photography always had me seeking perfection. It is silly because life isn't perfect, but regardless, I feared things like proper exposure and unconventional subjects. (Yes....insert eye roll here!)

The thing about film though, it has given me freedom it be imperfect, appreciate 'flaws' and embrace everyday life in an authentic and unpolished way. Film has given me permission to love the imperfect and see it for all its beauty. Also, the fact that my hands are on it from start to finish....well that... that alone gives me immense satisfaction.

So.....I'm saying be ready for the perfectly imperfect. And just to prove it...I resisted the urge to edit out my chicken pox scars. :-) I'm going to be brave and start sharing what I've been working on and what I love.

Here goes....

The Ceremonial start of The Iditarod Sled Dog Race will kick off in Anchorage at 10:00 AM on March 4th this year. The following day the restart will take place in Willow Alaska. The “restart” is considered to be the true start of the race, with mushers racing off into the surrounding wilderness and heading for Nome.

This year has the smallest number of mushers ever entered in the race. There are only 33 competitors, and has none of the well known names we have followed over the years. Notably absent this year are: Mitch and Dallas Seavey, Jeff King, and Martin Buser – just to name a few. In 2008 we had 96 mushers take on the grueling 1,000 mile run to Nome – but citing the cost of feed, fuel, and supplies - fewer mushers can afford to enter the race. Plus there is a diminishing interest in the race and very few corporate sponsors willing to participate.

Gone are the good old days when the “race” was essentially a three-week camping trip through the wilderness among friends. The inaugural Iditarod in 1973 took 20 days for the winner, (Dick Wilmarth) to arrive in Nome. Now, the fastest mushers arrive under the Burled Arch on Front Street in mere eight or nine days. It’s sad – but I never thought I would see Alaska’s Iditarod Race come to an end.

I went out to the back garden to try for a closer shot of the squirrels. There had been 4 chasing around the trees near the feeders and 1 of them seemed much less timid than the others. I moved closer to it a few slow steps at a time, giving it a chance to settle in-between moving and managed to get within about 12 feet of it. It kept a close eye on me all the time but just carried on nibbling away at the peanuts in the feeder behind an elder tree branch.

I was incredibly lucky as some weak sunshine also helped the scene.

Maybe this squirrel hadn't managed to get a meal while all the others were around and decided that it would take advantage once they had departed.

As it is such a horrible dark, rainy day here today thought I would upload a shot taken earlier this year in Caswell Bay, Gower. It was a four seasons in one day sort of a day but unlike today there was some good light!
