This picture was taken in Blue Ridge, Georgia at our cabin. Jill and Bella make a wonderful team. If you're not familiar with the pug breed, they are wonderful pets. ...As many of you know, Jill is my daughter who was diagnosed with brain cancer when she was 3 years old. Since this picture has been taken, Jill's health has taken a turn for the worse. We are now looking at a recurrence, but not sure at this point. Her doctors are scanning her brain and spine every 3 months to see what is taking place. We are remaining optimistic and praying for God's intervention. After all, He is the Great Physician!

Série "En charognards" (2013-2017) :

www.prestrot.com/encharognardsa.html

May is National Brain Tumor Awareness Month

It can happen to anyone

This is a picture taken at the hospital...I will upload a newer picture of her as soon as I can.

Jaymi has been home now for 4 days, and is improving so much every day. 5 or 6 days ago, she couldn't walk, could barely hold her head up, stand, or sit up by herself.

Today, she is walking on her own pretty well (she still needs to grab on to things for support along the way, and when she gets tired at the end of the day, she trips and wavers a lot more), her voice is totally back, and her left side is getting stronger and stronger.

She is extremely frustrated with a lot of things, and I think that is the hardest part of recovery right now.

She is tired of hearing everyone talk about this whole story, and doesn't understand why everyone keeps saying how strong she is.

I am so happy that she has done so well, and am totally enjoying having her around.

:D

Traumatic brain injury/skull fracture I suffered from an ATV accident. WEAR A HELMET!!!!

Do not back up

In today's brain tumor support group meeting we shared the realities of our "new" normal lives. How it takes years to recover and accept there is no going back....

Sometimes a disability is invisible

We suffer alone

Sometimes ashamed

There is no cure

"Let me give you a piece of my mind," that is literally what I gave to my brain surgeon.

Now, I am seeing the world in a whole different way. It seems alterations to the left frontal lobe may cause personality changes. Needless to say, I am seeking professional help.

Today was my "intake" appointment. Another stressful and draining experience.

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star

One without a permanent scar

And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there

Her stitches look incredible already! It's truly amazing what they can do!

*I have decided to start another 365 of Jaymi, beginning on the first day of her 'new life' with a healthier brain. She is so lucky to be alive, and this 365 will be a celebration of the wonderful little girl that is Jaymi.*

3/365 Jaymi

Poor Jaymi - she has been through such an ordeal this week. And so suddenly!

On Monday she was at school, having fun with friends and planning to advance from Sparks to Brownies, and the next day she is being admitted to the Children's Hospital, getting ready to have emergency brain surgery!

Wow - how your life can change!!

She is struggling through her second post-surgery day. It's so sad to watch.

Thanks to those contacts who have heard about this and have offered support - I truly appreciate it!

Everyday is the best day of my life.

Memory Loss and all!

A few years ago my friends told me they liked my attitude...my brave new reality is coping with less energy, more confusion, but still lots of enthusiasm

My daughter called 9-1-1 when she found me unconscious on Novemer 9, 2010. She hadn't heard from me in three days and was worried about me living alone. She said I was talking "crazy" when I called her five times in one day...no one had any idea I had a life threatening condition.

What was underneath the Hair;

Is no longer there.

The film is about a submarine crew who are shrunk to microscopic size and venture into the body of an injured scientist to repair damage to his brain. Bantam Books obtained the rights for a paperback novelization based on the screenplay and approached Isaac Asimov to write it. Because the novelization was released six months before the movie, many people mistakenly believed that the film was based on Asimov’s book. [Source: Wikipedia]

Be Very Afraid!

Failed to complete my MRI exam this week. Unexpected terror...

Self-Portrait December 2010

Brain surgery recovery, no hair...I borrowed a friend's crazy wig and celebrated my ability to speak!

I survived the brain surgery that removed a tumor the size of a golf ball. I saw the x-ray and it was horrifying. My daughter bought me a hat that made me look like I was from Alaska, not Los Angeles. I was totally bald with an angry seven inch scar, my head was swollen and I was on four life saving drugs.

This was the first photograph taken after my surgery.

November 2010

This is Jim. Jim served in the Vietnam War as a US Army tank mechanic. He enlisted when he was 18. He did 17 parachute jumps while in Vietnam.

Jim was just released from the hospital here in Kentucky a few weeks ago - he had a tumor the size of a golf ball removed from his brain. This is a frequent occurrence in Kentucky. Jim was in the hospital for a month then in rehab for a few weeks. Jim said he started noticing problems with his balance and that is when they found the tumor. Jim still has yet to go through chemo. He has an 8" scar across the top of his head. Jim is 71 years old - one would never know he just had major brain surgery. Jim's firstborn child was born with spina bifida - a direct result of his exposure to Agent Orange.

www.publichealth.va.gov/exposures/agentorange/birth-defec...

Jim's dog, Buddy, passed away yesterday, so it seemed therapeutic and fitting for all of us to be together here this morning. Jim knows his fishing. We hope to see Jim again when the fish are biting as it had just rained this morning.

*******

Today, August 2, 2019 I caught up with Jim buying groceries (donuts, milk, etc....) for his grandkids. He looks great, now has a full head of hair, and strong as ever. He's given most of his fishing equipment away to the boy scouts, etc....but still has a some left. We hope to go fishing soon.

I wish I could have let Jim talk to the owner of the Haven Beach Motel on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, USA, who just informed us that regardless of what United States Federal Law is, they will not permit a service dog on their premises or on the beach.

*******

11/22/2019: Saw Jim this morning at McDonalds - he is currently struggling with a recent flashback which has lasted a few weeks as well as balance challenges. But he is still strong, standing, driving and can still almost smile. He was taking breakfast home to "the boys". Says he hasn't been doing any fishing lately. He's a bit wobbly but still going strong.

******

12/1/2020: What a great way to start off the month! We saw Jim this afternoon while at a local grocery store and he is still kickin' it, says it's catfish season and he's using cut up bluegill as bait! He still has that grand smile that will light up any day! It was so good to see him!

*****

1/27/2022: I have not seen Jim around but an employee of Kroger's says he still goes in occasionally and has a freezer full of bluegill he's willing to share. We have many bluegill here. Hope to catch up with him soon.

******

August 10, 2022: We saw Jim at a local grocery store and he looked fantastic. He said he just got back from the Bahamas as well as a visit to Bernheim Forest with his grandkids and Wife. Says he hasn't fished in two years but says he will be going out to the lake to see all of the changes. Said he had yet another tumor removed from his brain but is sharp, coherent and still driving!

The Incan people practiced brain surgery, in which a piece was chipped out of the skull, part of the brain removed, and the hole covered by metal beaten flat.

I did not put holes in my gingerbread kids before baking them---so I had this wild idea that I could just drill holes in them later. I asked hubby to assist and it worked--much better than if I had put the holes in first. Get out your drills and other tools ladies--theyr'e great for making cookies.

I've been drinking a cup a day of Hibiscus Tea for six weeks (per The Dr. Oz Show) and my blood pressure has dropped from 144 to 131.

A study published in the Journal of Human Hypertension has shown that drinking hibiscus tea can reduce high blood pressure. The study results showed the average systolic blood pressure for those drinking hibiscus tea decreased from 134.8 mmHg (17.97 kPa) at the beginning of the study to 112.7 mmHg (15.03 kPa) at the end of the study, one month later.[6]

1/365 Jaymi

I just had the chance to upload this picture of Jaymi in the ICU, that I had taken with my phone. She looked so tiny, with all of the machines around her, hooked up to her, and all of the tubes connected to her.

She is doing a lot better now, than she was here.

She is now 5 days post-surgery, and she is gradually recovering.

Although she is unable to walk without our support yet, and her vision is still blurry, her mood (which had dropped drastically on the weekend) is a lot better, she can sit and (mostly) hold her head up, her co-ordation is improving and she is completely off any medication.

The only thing she has to do to get out of here, is start eating and drinking (she is back on IV because she stopped eating and drinking) and work on standing and walking.

I will post a photo of her that is more recent, as soon as I get one.

well, not really... it's actually a cork with the end of the corkscrew coming out of it. it was a bottle of cherry beer, hence the fizziness

After getting a haircut before brain surgery for an aneurysm. The aneurysm was found attached to the nerve on my right eye. I don't believe I was less of a human for crying my heart out after this series of self-portraits. But I was too darn emotional and sad to want to take any more photos this day.

I've kept this image private for months. Afraid I suppose to show you what has been going on in my life, and what I really look like. But none of that matters now. Life is definitely uncertain. Enjoy what you have, while you have it!
