The University of Vienna is the oldest university in the German-speaking and -cultural area, and both the largest university in Austria as well as in German-speaking countries.
History

The founding document of the University was signed on 12th March in 1365 by Duke Rudolph IV and his brothers Albert III and Leopold III. signed and the university therefore is also called "Alma Mater Rudolphina". It is after the University of Prague, then part of the Holy Roman Empire, the second oldest university in Central Europe. The present main building was built in 1877-1884 by Heinrich von Ferstel on the Vienna ring road (Ringstraße), previously the main building was near the office door (Stubentor), at Ignaz- Seipel-Platz, where the old University Church and the Austrian Academy of Sciences are located. In 1897, women were first admitted as regular listeners, even if at first only in the philosophical faculty. The remaining faculties partly followed at a considerable distance: 1900 the medical, the juridical 1919, 1923, Evangelical theological and in 1946 finally allowed the Catholic theological faculty women as ordinary listeners. With the romanist Elise Richter succeeded eight years after the start of the women studying at the University of Vienna the first woman to habilitate (1905), she was 1921 also the first extraordinary professor. Only after the Second World War, the physicist Berta Karlik was appointed to the first full professor of the University of Vienna.
Research and teaching
Currently are around 63,000 students in about 130 disciplines at the University of Vienna enrolled, of which 22 are bachelor and 27 master's programs. The research activity of the University is carried in total of approximately 6,100 researchers and scientists. Of these 6,100 persons are approximately 3,200 people staff of the University of Vienna, about 900 people are active in projects that are financed by external funds. Among the 6,100 scientists and academics are also about 2,000 lecturers, many of whom also contribute to the research at the University of Vienna.
Location
The scientific institutions of the University of Vienna are spread over 60 locations in Vienna. The center is the historic main building on the Ringstrasse (Universitätsring). Here is the seat of the university management and the administration of most organizations. Another spatial center constitutes the nearby situated university campus, where the majority of scientific institutions has settled and the new auditorium center was built.

Structure
Rector of the University of Vienna is currently Georg Winckler. The University of Vienna is divided into several departments and centers. Under the new law, the University Medical School in 2004 spun off into the Medical University of Vienna, as well as before the economic studies were released into independence. Other faculties were also restructured, so the natural science faculty was divided into a number of small but specialized units.

These are the visual notes I during the Power of 32 Steering Committee Leadership Meeting that took place 6-22-2011.
Note: This is a snapshot of the conversation at this point in the Power of 32 process--not a definitive to do list.
The Power of 32 is an unprecedented regional initiative to think and act in the interest of the 32 county region which comprises of parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland. It contains urban areas such as Pittsburgh, Wheeling and Youngstown, as well as many small towns and rural areas. The 3 year effort has catalyzed over 150 community conversations in all 32 counties and over 15,000 sticky notes of ideas.
Community input created coalesced into 6 categories: economy, education, environment, people/community, governing, transportation and infrastructure.
It is clear that it is in the interest of this governmentally balkanized region to think of itself as a region. This is especially important because the none areas of the 4 states in the region are at the political center of their own states. There is strength in numbers, and it makes sense for the region to flex its regional muscles and tap into it's enormous brainpower across jurisdictional boundaries of states, counties, and municipalities.
The findings of the project will be rolled out in force with a live special on WQED on November 3, 2011.

As a recent transplant to the region, this was an incredible meeting to be part of. I came out of it for even more appreciation for the region and its people than I had coming into the meeting.

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) was founded on 19 May 1949.
This photograph was taken in 1984 at the CSIRO Division of Computing Research, based at Black Mountain, Canberra.
Australia's first computer, and the fourth in the world, CSIR Mk1 was built in 1949 by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), forerunner of the CSIRO. Later renamed CSIRAC (CSIR Automatic Computer), the machine had limited brainpower by today’s standards. Nonetheless, in its various incarnations it tackled everything from calculating mortgage payments to weather forecasting, architectural design and digital music.
Housed in the Radiophysics Laboratory in Sydney and later at the University of Melbourne, CSIRAC (pronounced 'sigh-rack') weighed several tonnes, filled the equivalent of a double garage and used enough electricity to power a suburban street.
When it was turned off in 1964, CSIRAC was the oldest stored-memory electronic computer in operation in the world. The lone survivor of the first generation computers now takes pride of place at the Museum of Victoria, Melbourne.

On November 15, 2022, the LBJ Library co-hosted an event with Humanities Texas and the Tom Lea Institute about the remarkable career and even more remarkable strategic vision of Homer Lea. Lea was barred from joining the U.S. Army due to a physical disability yet lent his energy and brainpower to Sun Yat-sen in overthrowing the Manchu Dynasty in China in 1911.
Chase Untermeyer, former United States Ambassador to Qatar and Assistant Secretary of the Navy, spoke about Homer Lea. Adair Margo, founder of the Tom Lea Institute, discussed the interactions of Tom and Sarah Lea with Lady Bird Johnson and President Johnson.

OKINAWA, Japan (Jan. 3, 2014) Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3's Headquarters Company, Squad 4 kicks off the championship round during a battalion-wide military skills competition at Camp Shields with a memory game that required teamwork and brainpower to complete. The competition capped off a week-long block of military instruction designed to ensure NMCB 3 remains at its highest readiness levels. NMCB 3's main body is deployed to Okinawa with nine details performing critical construction projects in remote island areas such as Timor-Leste, Tonga, Cambodia and the Philippines. The teams are also conducting operations in Atsugi and Yokosuka, Japan; Chinhae, Republic of Korea; and China Lake and San Clemente Island, Calif. ... I used to have a list of every concert I've ever been to at www.acm.vt.edu/~clint/media/concerts.htm ... but a jerk named John Edstrom (from Virginia Tech) decided to delete everyone's shell accounts, even those who had been using our Virginia Tech ACM accounts for 15 years.
BACKSTORY: Kasson Crooker was not available and was replaced for this show, but Liz Enthusiasm and The Other Sean T. Drinkwater played, and some members of the (horrible) opening "band" sometimes played some backup instruments as well. Freezepop played the following songs: Boys On Film, Parlez Vous Freezepop, Science Genius Girl (diff mix than the FreQuency or Freezepop Forever versions), Bike Thief, Get Ready 2 Rokk, Frontload, Super-Sprode, Brainpower, Plastic Stars, Stakeout, Less Talk More Rokk, The Final Countdown (by Europe). The only disappointing thing was that they did not play Freezepop Forever or the Jem & The Holograms theme - the two most-requested songs by the auidence.

WTF?!?! This is really happening?!?! Yes, it did. Freezepop covered Europe's The Final Countdown for their 2nd-to-last song. It was their only cover. Liz Enhtusiasm's voice really shined during this song, as it was sung in overdone 1980's style, and not her muted/mellow synthpop singing.

Hef wordt in 2008 met zijn videoclip ‘Puur’ in één klap het gezicht van de wijk Hoogvliet in Rotterdam. Met zijn unieke stijl en rauwe overkomen vergaart hij de aandacht van de straat én van verschillende gewaardeerde critici. Samen met zijn broers Crooks en Ado’Nis brengt hij na diverse videoclips en een spraakmakende 101Barz sessie de mixtape ‘Boyz In De Hood vol. 1’ uit.
In 2009 verschijnt Hefs debuutalbum ‘Hefvermorgen’ via het platform Streetknowledge/Black Ice Entertainment. Niet lang hierna verlaat de rapper dit platform en staat Hef voor een keuze tussen de twee grootste hiphoplabels van Nederland, Top Notch en Noah’s Ark. Het nieuws dat Hef zich officieel heeft aangesloten bij Noah’s Ark komt begin 2010 naar buiten. In april brengt Noah’s Ark een uitgebreide versie van het debuutalbum van Hef uit. In navolging van deze release trekt de rapper samen met labelmaat Önder door het land als ‘Bang Bros On Tour’. Tegen het eind van de zomer staat het duo op Lowlands, waarvoor ze speciaal de mixtape ‘Bang Bros Do Lowlands’ uitbrengen. Op 18 maart 2012 dropt de rapper uit Hoogvliet de mixtape ‘Kutleven’ samen met zijn groep ‘Team Vieze’. Hef zijn tweede solo album ‘Papierwerk’, welke eind 2012 uitkwam.
Op 16 november was de release van Hef zijn langverwachte, tweede soloplaat ‘Papierwerk’. In een drukbezochte Corso vierde hij de succesvolle release van zijn album welke binnenkwam op nummer 1 in de iTunes album-hitlijst. De onvervalste, pure hiphop plaat behaalde vervolgens maarliefst een nummer 12-positie in de album top 100. Hef start in 2013 met een show op Noorderslag, gevolgd door een landelijke clubtour met Team Vieze.

Eclips & Profix
Danny van Rooij is geboren op 7 december 1991.
Op de jonge leeftijd van 11 jaar leerde hij hiphop kennen en voelde hij meteen de drang om hier meer mee te gaan doen. Hij begon vanaf die leeftijd bekende nummers van Brainpower zoals o.a. “Voel de vibe” en “Dansplaat” te playbacken tijdens de weeksluiting in groep 8 op zijn basisschool.
Omdat hij merkte dat er goed op zijn performance werd gereageerd, kreeg hij de smaak te pakken en sinds die tijd besloot hij om zelf teksten te gaan schrijven en heeft hij enkele nummers opgenomen.
In 2008 vormde hij met twee vrienden de crew FF Anders. Zij brachten in 2009 de mixtape (Op Het Spoor) uit en traden o.a. Bij Future Parade te Eindhoven op. Ook werden zij uitgenodigd voor een studiosessie bij Radio538 en maakten de officiële Gangsterboys remix van de soundtrack van de film “Gangsterboys”. Na deze samenwerkingen met de andere twee leden van FF Anders besloot Eclips om als een solo artiest verder te gaan. Zijn eerste wapenfeit als solo-artiest was een optreden op het hoofdpodium van Hiphop In Duketown 2011.
Sinds 2013 is hij creatiever en serieuzer aan de slag gegaan met zijn muziek. Zo is hij sinds September (2013) een student op de Herman Brood Academie in Utrecht waar hij zichzelf nog meer wil gaan ontwikkelen als artiest zijnde. Zijn nummers omschrijft hij zelf als inhoudelijk, catchy, energiek en indrukwekkend.
Anno 2014 is hij druk bezig met zijn EP genaamd “Introvert” en dit vergt momenteel al zijn concentratie, focus en energie.Er is kortom op muzikaal vlak een hoop om naar uit te kijken dit jaar!
Mike Hoos (‘s-Hertogenbosch, 29 juli 1990), beter bekend als Profix, is een Nederlandstalige rapper uit Den Bosch. Profix is muzikaal actief sinds 2011 en zijn sound is te omschrijven als; verfrissend, krachtig en eerlijk. Profix heeft al op verschillende podia gestaan waaronder: Hiphop in Duketown, Paard van Troje, Dynamo Eindhoven, De Pul en het poppodium W2 in Den Bosch.
In het voorjaar van 2013 kwam Profix met een 7 tracks tellende EP genaamd ‘Aangenaam Kennis te maken‘ die door verschillende websites als Puna en 101Barz werden geplaatst. Het nummer ‘Stress’ (afkomstig van de EP) en het nummer ‘Niks Komt Vanzelf’ zijn tevens geplaatst door de invloedrijke website 22Tracks.
In het najaar van 2013 deed hij mee het programma ‘The Next MC’ van televisiezender BNN en was hij 1 van de 90 geselecteerde auditie-deelnemers van de 1000 aanmeldingen, waarbij hij een complimenteus commentaar ontving van een vakjury die bestond uit o.a. Negativ, Tim Beumers en Brainpower.
Profix heeft in Maart 2014 een 9 tracks tellende EP gereleased in samenwerking met producer Twislabeats genaamd ‘De Sleutel Van Vandaag’. Ook deze EP is te downloaden op verschillende websites als Puna, Statemagazine, 101Barz, iTunes en te streamen via Spotify. In diezelfde maand is ook de video verschenen van de titeltrack.

Lundi Boulevard
Lundi Boulevard bestaat uit Karim Voodoo, Noz en Pepe Nomad, en balanceert met een experimentele sound op het randje van de hiphop. 18/08 releasten ze hun eerste plaat: Club Papaya and the Land. Club Papaya and the Land balanceert met een experimentele sound op het randje van de hiphop. In acht nummers wordt de luisteraar mee op reis genomen door Club Papaya en het land. Club Papaya staat voor het zorgeloze; het pure genieten. Het land vertegenwoordigt daarin het werkelijke; de realiteit. Lundi Boulevard houdt zich aan weinig tot niets vast en komt daardoor tot een diverse, maar eigen sound. Ze waren eerder al te zien op de diverse Burning Paper edities in het Cordes te 's-Hertogenbosch, en stonden op het ‘Love, Kate’ benefietconcert van NGO Meet Kate. De up and coming artiest MarOne, is een rapper uit het verre zuiden.
Hij schaafde zijn skills op pleintjes in de stad Maastricht. Hij leerde van oudere mensen waaronder van zijn DJ ChiefMonkey. Momenteel zit MarOne op de Rockacademie en is hij bezig met zijn aankomende EP.

Honestly, I'm writing this at 1:58 AM on the 27th, though I did take this photo on the 25th. But both the Friday and Saturday sort of blended together in a depressive, melancholy, procrastinate-y sort of way, so much so that I'm not sure each day deserves its own entry. I suppose I should muddle through as best I can.
This day was strange. I've been falling asleep later and later, and have returned unhappily to a fairly nocturnal cycle: 5:30am to bed, and then fitfully up somewhere between noon and 3. Not the most productive days and nights. Such was the case on this Friday, where I spent the better part of my brainpower on designing the aforementioned "Just Sex" logo (see January 24th) until Mary, Sarah and Lisa came by for dinner. The photo above is just an early draft.
By 10:30pm, when they all left, I was starting to feel exhausted, similar to jetlag... so of course I stayed up until 5:30 trying to read my script and again watching bad television. At the very tail end, I was feeling so morose, and so full of self-pity, that I picked up the copy of Jumper (by Steven Gould) that I'd ordered from Amazon, and started reading.
Quick aside: I'd heard of it years ago on boingboing.net and actually thought about trying to find out who owned the option because it seemed like a perfect film adaptation, and something I'd love to direct. It's a "teen novel" and so I thought it would be a light, fun plotline, but I never got around to reading it. Another 6 or 8 months later, I saw an article in Variety about Jumper in preproduction, directed by Doug Liman. As down as I was about it, I thought, at least the director was a good fit for the story. Then I learned Hayden Christensen was it in. Hmmm. About three weeks ago, seeing that Jumper was finally coming out in theaters, I wanted to read it before Darth Vader got his hacky acting chops all over it and his interpretation got stuck in my brain. Don't get me wrong, I hope he does a stellar job and I'm rooting for him... I just don't have that much confidence. But maybe it was George's fault. Maybe.
Anyway, after about 15 pages, I actually felt better. Either my mood was lifting, or the book was the perfect escape. I went to bed.

11. The best way to piss off a jealous dude is by holding hands with the girl he's been stalking since sophomore year of high school. Then wave, smile, and say, "What's up?" That'll definitely do it.
12. Starbucks = pretty much the best thing EVER (but I already knew that one, and coffee has already been mentioned SO!)
13. It is usually best to ask if someone is 'taken' BEFORE you try to make out with them. But, you know, if you wanna be a rebel...
14. Sing along to the stupid songs on the radio and love it.
15. Church camp may not always be the solution to your troubled teens problems.
16. If you're named after the town in which you were concieved, it is a sure sign that the gods have never been in your favor.
17. When you're best friend randomly drives all the way from Midway, Kentucky to come and see you, don't blow them off when they ask you to go paintballing with them. (Say, "Screw prom!" and go!!!)
18. Gmail your best friend every day. If not, they will leave a thousand annoying offline messages for you.
19. If you bear any resemblence to someone of an opposite gender, then that definitely means that they are your soulmate and you should marry them and have carbon copy children. [*ahem ahem... KATE*]
20. Your boyfriend(s) will never love you as much as your best friend Corbin. This applies to future husband(s) and child(ren), as well.
