For the first time, the DCPA is opening up a Holiday Box Office in an off-premises storefront. But the temporary “pop-up store” located between Detroit and Clayton streets on First Avenue will do much more than just sell tickets and gift certificates (with all handling fees waived). Here are photos from the opening party (and Mile High Holidays press conference) that included appearances from The Grinch, along with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, Shaun Taylor-Corbett of 'Jersey Boys' and Tiny Tim (Elias Harger) from 'A Christmas Carol.' All photos by John Moore. The 4,000-square-foot space opens Nov. 21 and runs through Dec. 23. This unique bit of enterprise in Cherry Creek includes a stage for free performances, free activities for kids and plentiful information about the wide variety of activities available at the DCPA. It's located at 2771 E. 1st Ave. between Clayton and Detroit streets in Cherry Creek North. It's open through Dec. 23, 2014. Hours: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, plus Dec. 22 & 23; 1-5 p.m. Sundays
No handling fees on any in-store ticket purchases. Read more about it here: www.denvercenter.org/blog-posts/news-center/2014/11/13/dc...

Some organizing boxes. I like to use black & cream toile in my office - with touches of other colors for accents.
There was nothing at the other side of the wall to indicate what might be in this box.
I was expecting some wires or something, thinking that the box contained a switch. Maybe there's nothing in it. Maybe it's just a joke.

During renovation of Kauffman Stadium, some upper deck seating was removed, and new press boxes were added behind home plate. New luxury boxes and suites were added as well.
I had this old wooden box for YEARS maybe decades, and finally it turned out to be the perfect colllage canvas for my Halloweenies! Sue-see your TAPE TRANSFER? :O) The angel was already there...notice how easily she went to the dark side..

Cliburn signal box - one of nine on the route - looked after the adjacent level crossing and controlled access into a goods yard which boasted cattle pens and coal handling facilities. There was only a single running line, serving a platform on the Down side. This accommodated the main building, next to which was the station master's house.
Closure came to Cliburn in September 1956 although through trains continued, requiring the signal box to remain open. But the route succumbed on the same day as Stainmore: 22nd January 1962.
The signal box immediately entered a period of decline; its windows smashed and innards gutted. Some repair work was undertaken in the 1970s but 2012 saw its complete refurbishment, opening as a self-catering holiday let with an extension to the rear.
At the Breaking Diapause gathering at Michigan State yesterday. The library of a deceased much-loved member was for sale. A lifetime of work in acquiring the books.

For the PCAGOE February challenge: wall art on canvas or wood
This is 100% polymer clay, no paint. I wanted to make a piece that looked like it was painted, and I am happy with the results. Hints of glitter of various colors adorn the flower parts and the black background. The art work is mounted on a 6x6" box canvas. Nice size for a little accent piece. An old Longleaf Pine, Pinus palustris, that was "boxed" (tapped for turpentine) decades ago at Weymouth Woods. The tree is not that big around, but it must be quite old, as turpentine harvesting ended long ago. The preserve dates from 1963, but I believe harvesting was ended much earlier. I did not notice this when I took the photo, but it looks like there is still a piece of metal stuck into the trunk--perhaps a remnant of the box? I'll have to ask the ranger.

I was inspired to do this piece of redwork by the beautiful French needlework blogs. The box was quite easy to make. It has ribbons for the hinge, and is decorated with a padded redwork which has an antique pattern.
