I call this my “Cherry” Glasses Box. On the top of the box is a variation of a “Rolling Star” quilt pattern. The glasses box is about 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" and 2 1/4" high on the outside. Inside it is 2 3/8" x 5 3/8" x 1 1/2". I made it using 116 pieces of wood cut in either diamond or triangle shapes from different kinds of wood. The box is finished in its natural color with 5 or 6 coats of a clear wiping varnish, rubbed in by hand. The pieces are a bit over 3/16" thick, glued onto a Baltic Birch base, so hold up much better than a thin veneer.
The type of wood is listed on the bottom of the box from the center out. On this box the wood is “Chechen” from Mexico, “Sycamore” and “Cherry” from Missouri.
On the bottom I signed it, listed the wood, and dated it. After the date, the words “Foot Cut” let you know I made it on a foot powered table saw.
I lined the box with black velveteen.

71 SW Oak Street. Known as Dielschneider Building, it is the 3rd oldest standing building in Portland. Also, one of Portland's cast iron buildings, which have a pretty cool history as a collective and individually.
Box is 14" x 10" x 6.5". Outside of box is made from figured makore trimmed with black walnut along the top and black walnut legs. Top of the box is book-matched black walnut trimmed with ebony and amboyna burl. The inside of the box is black walnut with black walnut trays.
I call it "The Alien Box" because of the image on the lid.

This Octagon Box measures 5” x 5” and is 3 ¼” tall. There are 128 pieces on the box in the diamond and triangle shape. The box is finished in its natural color with 5 or 6 coats of a clear wiping varnish rubbed in by hand. The pieces are a bit over 3/16” thick glued onto a birch plywood base. The type of wood is listed on the bottom of the box from the center out. On this box is “Satinwood” from Sri Lanka (a very pretty wood), “Wenge” from West Africa and “Hackberry” from Missouri. Some of the Wenge on this box has what I call a “lightning strike” look, as the grain is jagged, a very nice effect. It is lined with black velvet.
This is from the simplest and most widely known of tatos.A good box if, you know, you're folding on a flood plain or something.
