Both of the last remaining F40PH-2CAT’s on NJ Transit’s roster now spend their days on work trains or at the MMC. Back in the first days of May, #4119 and #4120 were assigned to a tie train on the Main/Bergen. Here it is dropping rail in Glen Rock up to Ridgewood Junction.

Both NYSW SU99 and a CSX manifest cross over Overpeck Creek, preparing for their journeys north. Due to all but one track being torn up in NYSW’s MC Yard in Bogota for a pipe installation, SU99 had to build its train in Little Ferry.

Douglas Bader was a Royal Air Force fighter pilot who overcame the loss of both legs in a 1931 crash to become a celebrated ace during World War II. He led squadrons with great skill and determination, particularly during the Battle of Britain, before being shot down and captured in 1941. Despite multiple escape attempts, he remained a prisoner until the war’s end and later became a symbol of resilience and determination.

He was also a keen motorist and owned several notable cars, including an Alvis 4.3-litre and a Drophead Bentley. His driving was known to be as bold as his flying, sometimes alarming passengers with his confidence behind the wheel.

Both children and adults enjoy playing with coloring books

I'm usually not a fan of taking wildlife shots with man made objects in the background and go out of my way to travel or go the distance to do that, in this case I was torn by both. There was a Fox family crossing the road and a couple of them (in this case a youngster) decided to park it and check out what his siblings were doing. I enjoyed the contrast and the deep shades; not a photo I would generally share but the stare, and not great light (I play that card a lot) I live in the PNW you know the drill...made for an interesting shot different then most out there.

I have many other shots of these guys in their natural setting which I will share later. I enjoyed the darkness in this photo, I hope you do as well.

both! =:-) (or rather: it's a photo of a photo-painting)

Both photos were taken on my Olympus OM-D E-M1Mk2 and Leica 100-400Mk2 at the same time, but the right hand image with several more stops of exposure. On the left you can see the shadows cast by the sun at the moon's rim. On the right, the image is dominated by the same glaring sunshine, but you can also see the faint disc of the moon's dark side, lit by the fainter sunlight reflected from our own earth.

Tenryū-ji (天龍寺)—more formally known as Tenryū Shiseizen-ji (天龍資聖禅寺)—is the head temple of the Tenryū branch of Rinzai Zen Buddhism, located in Susukinobaba-chō, Ukyō Ward, Kyoto, Japan. The temple was founded by Ashikaga Takauji in 1339, primarily to venerate Gautama Buddha, and its first chief priest was Musō Soseki. Construction was completed in 1345. As a temple related to both the Ashikaga family and Emperor Go-Daigo, the temple is held in high esteem, and is ranked number one among Kyoto's so-called Five Mountains. In 1994, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as part of the "Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto". (Wikipedia)

Both of these WWII era classics made an appearance at the DOC B-29 Hangar and Museum in Wichita in September 2022. This B-17 and its crew was lost in the Dallas air show accident in November 2022. The crew was so very friendly. One allowed me to climb up on the wing of the Helldiver to get a shot of its cockpit. Such a sad loss of a special B-17 and its very special crew.

Last month I met some friends and we had beautiful clear winter day shooting the Tetons from about as many angles that we could think of and get to! We didn't want to stroll too far from the vehicles in the -10 degree F. temperatures.

It's rare that a picture seems to work in both black and white and color, but it happens.

This shot was made on a large birthdayparty of a client. The caterer provided lots of great food but the top attraction (both visual and gastronomic) where the 'crèpes flambées'.

For strobists: The cool evening daylight outside provided a nice blueish background for the yellow flames. I underexposed the ambient to make the flames look more impressive. Problem with the underexposure was that the cook was not much more than a silhouette. So I place a 580EX on a table to my left (almost 90degrees from my position). It was set to low power on manual and zoomed in to get some subtle light on the cook.

To make the light on the cook look like it came from the flames I put a CTO gel over the flash.

According to officials from both Arches & Canyonlands National Parks, this is the last year we'll be able to use low level lighting during our workshop events. For some time, park officials allowed permitted workshop leaders to use low level lighting while they prohibited artificial lighting (other than for safety) for the public at large. Now, they've announced plans to prohibit artificial lighting for both the public at large and for workshops beginning in 2020.

With permits in national parks plus the blm and dead horse state park, we welcome this news. It gives us an opportunity to make the most of our ability to use Low Level Lighting in the national parks this year and it gives us an opportunity to make the most of all the incredible locations we've scouted and been taking people to outside of the national parks. We didn't know it at the time but we've been preparing for this transition for years and we welcome it. We hope you'll join us - either this year in our last opportunities to use Low Level Lighting or next year as we expand our reach even further.

Both lucky baby land turtles are healthy, they were free in the garden and fed on vegetables and fruit. Little fragrant tomatoes were their favourites.

Both are now exactly 1 week old. Tomorrow they return to the nature to which they belong. I hope they both live for many years.

I wanted to share with you this short detail; The 60mm macro lens I use is misleading. It is possible to see and understand their size between fingers.

The lucky baby land turtles - On the way to Akcay, our friends saw the workman on the roller machine repairing the road work. There were some white dods on the path, as he drove nearer, he discovered they were eggs that some of them squashed by the roller machine.

He quickly asked the workman stop and rescued two remaining eggs. A moment later, one of the egg cracked open, a baby turtle hatched.

The rescued turtles are now live in a farm where they can feed on insects and worms.

Hermann's tortoise is a species in the genus Testudo. Two subspecies are known: the western Hermann's tortoise and the eastern Hermann's tortoise. Sometimes mentioned as a subspecies, T. h. peleponnesica is not yet confirmed to be genetically different from T. h. boettgeri.

How big does a Hermann's tortoise get?

Testudo hermanni is a medium - sized tortoise. Adults usually range from 13-20 cm (5-8 in). Adults of the western subspecies, Testudo hermanni boettgeri, may reach up to 28 cm (11 in) in length, weighing 3-4 kg (7-9 lb). Sexual dimorphism is moderate, with females on average 12% larger than males.

How long does a Hermann's tortoise live for 50 years.

Life span: The oldest known Hermann's tortoise in the UK was over 110 years! This is a rare case, but a happy and healthy Hermann's tortoise should be expected to live for over 50 years so they are certainly a long term commitment.

Handling. Tortoises do not generally enjoy being handled. Care should be taken to avoid dropping your tortoise whilst handling. They have very strong legs, so support your tortoise firmly at all times whilst handling.

I had a chance to watch a debate on "Bottle Feeding vs BreastFeeding". It was interesting that both sides pointed out the advantages.

I heard many good things that breastfeeding benefits to both Mother and Baby.

I can remember my Mother and My Wife said "I breastfed and I'm proud of it"

I'm happy to be a part of the story.

With the fall foliage nearing its peak for the season up north, it's no doubt mixing a barn in with some color will make for an even better scene. CMQ #1 is nearing Jackman, where the crew will switch this train, tie it down, and then hop on job #2 to head back east. We all lucked out being treated with a Red Barn leader on both trains. This train consisted CMQ SD40-2F's #9010/#9004/#9020/SD40T-2 (tunnel motor) #2856, and a healthy train of 72 cars. A great day up north on the Moosehead.

We stopped at Babalala twice during our recent trip and both times there were large numbers of Ellies around the waterhole.

I saw a guy with a long lens frantically trying to capture a picture of a LBJ but I was happy to take photos of this hornbill.

Once again the Britannian Empire has modified the Epitome platform, this time removing interior so that the chassis can be lowered, and adding an exterior cab, much like a bulldozer.

Then on the front was mounted a bulldozer blade, on which can be attached both a Mine Blade, or a Mine Flail.

Normally one unit with a blade makes a run, digging up whatever mines are in its path, normally flipping them upside down in the process, and then the flail follows behind it, destroying anything that was turned up.

While the system isn't perfect, it generally leads to a 90% clear rate.

PRAYER TO ST. ANNE AND ST. JOACHIM

Great and glorious patriarch, St Joachim, and good St Anne, what joy is mine when I consider that you were chosen among all God’s holy ones to assist in the fulfillment of the mysteries of God, and to enrich our earth with the great Mother of God, Mary most holy. By this singular privilege, you have become most powerful with both the Mother and her Son, so as to be able to obtain for us the graces that are needful to us.

With great confidence I have recourse to your mighty protection, and I commend to you all my needs, both spiritual and temporal, and those of my family. Especially do I entrust to your keeping the particular favour that I desire and look for from your intercession.

And since you were a perfect pattern of the interior life, obtain for me the grace to pray earnestly, and never to set m heart on the passing goods of this life. Give me a lively and enduring love for Jesus and Mary. Obtain for me also a sincere devotion and obedience to Holy church and the sovereign pontiff who rules over her, in order that I may live an die in faith and hope and perfect charity. Let me ever invoke the holy Names of Jesus and Mary. And may I thus be saved. Amen.

statues of prophets, greater porch (by Nicholaus, 1139) - Duomo of Verona

The Cathedral, which is dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, is the central structure of a complex of architectural buildings which include San Giovanni in Fonte, Santa Elena, the Canons’ cloister, the Capitular library, the square in front of the church and the bishop’s residence.

During the Roman Empire, in the area of the present day church, there were villas with private thermal baths (balnea) and probably also a few small temples.

The first palaeo Christian basilica was built on the area occupied today by the church of Santa Elena.

It was consecrated by S. Zeno, bishop of Verona, between 362 380 A.D. but it soon turned out to be too small and a few decades later it was replaced by a larger basilica. Quite a few remains of the mosaic floor of both palaeo Christian basilicas can be seen under the church of Santa Elena and the Canons’ cloister.

The second palaeo christian basilica collapsed, probably during the 7th century A.D., due to a strong fire or maybe an earthquake.

Archdeacon Pacifico was in charge of the reconstruction of the church, between the 8th and the 9th century and the Cathedral, known by the name of Santa Maria Matricolare, was built further south, on the area on which it is situated today.

The church was greatly damaged by an earthquake in 1117 A.D.

The reconstruction work lasted at least 20 years: the building acquired its current width and the two Romanesque porches.

The inside was completely renovated between the second half of the 15th and the second half of the 16th century with the addition of the side chapels and the semicircular choir screen.

Note outside the Romanesque façade, Nicolò double level porch (1138), the portal with its lunette and reliefs, the splendid side porch and the apse area. Inside the church you can see: the chapels with works by Falconetto, Liberale, Giolfino, Torbido, Titian’s Assumption of the Virgin (1530) and Sammicheli’s original choir screen.
