For my first Bootcamp assignment I wanted to visually highlight the difference between myself, a guitar player, and my friend Herman, a violinist. For myself I used harder light, and high contrast post processing. For Herman I used a little softer light and more conventional portraiture post.
Strobist info: 1 Grid spot on and SB 26 1/2 power pointed at the wall.
1 SB 26 through a white umbrella on the ground 1/4 power pointed up at our faces.
And one SB 24 1/8 power snooted from above and camera left pointed at our faces.

It was great timing that my friend recently renovated his basement and allowed me to take a picture for the strobist bootcamp assignment.
The basement is beautiful. I really like the modern contemporary look. The wood panels and the floor are dark oak (I think), while the ceiling, walls and pillars have lighter color. I especially like the contrast. The dark floor makes the room look very elegant and yet, the light colored stones brighten up the room.

I ended up just using the available light. This is my first time to take photo where my main subject is the room itself. I wanted to capture the dark-elegant theme of the room. I tried to use 2 slave flash via shoot-thru umbrella behind the pillars. But the light just contaminated the ceiling and overpowered the warm halogen lights in the room. I just felt using flash is overkill in this case.
Anyways, I had a good time taking this picture and looking forward for the next assignment.
A headshot of Reena, an unemployed accountant affected by the credit crunch. She's also my wife, which made life easier.
Tried lots of different lighting approaches but none of the interesting ones said 'Accountant'. in the end I went for the two umbrella beauty light thing.
Hopefully I can find an unemployed lion tamer before the deadline.
Any thoughts on making this better would be great.
