The bear is mostly trying to stomp on a fish with her front paws.

On Day Three, we headed to the Ursus, on the Katmai coast. But first we tried once more to find a moose. And we did!

After settling on the Ursus, we went out for our first bear viewing session in Kinak Bay. Our first brown bear!

Some personal notes at the back of the cover

"The massive, crushing force of a two-ton-steamroller and the beautiful, intricate markings of an artist’s linoleum-cut print might seem to exist in completely separate worlds, but in a unique and fun event called the Roadworks: Steamroller Printing Street Fair, these worlds will collide."

This card is for Papertrey Ink’s 7th Anniversary Celebration: Day 1 challenge (see Nichole Heady’s blog at nicholeheady.typepad.com). This challenge is to use one of the color combinations and one of the sketches. I chose the first color combination and the first sketch. Definitely out of my comfort zone with the colors!

Supplies:

Paper: Papertrey Ink Hawaiian Shores, Summer Sunrise, Terracotta Tile and Orange Zest

Ink: PTI Harvest Gold

Stamps: PTI Polka Dot Basics II

The Coffee Shop Chronicles of New Orleans

The agnostic, ten-years-sober son of a Baptist minister, B. Sammy Singleton has an opinion about everything. He also has a guidebook on New Orleans coffee shops to write. But when his best friend Catfish—reluctant heir to the Beaucoeur sugarcane fortune—is arrested for “grave robbing” and then goes missing, events spin out of control. The outcome is a personal journey into a past Sammy thought he had laid to rest, an excavation of buried truths about himself and about what the tragedy-bound Catfish calls the American Holocaust.

Set in the French Quarter and Faubourgs Marigny and Tremé, The Coffee Shop Chronicles of New Orleans - Part 1 blends satire, mystery, and historical fiction. The book is narrated and “reviews” local coffee shops including CC’s, Rue de la Course, Café du Monde, Café Rose Nicaud, and Envie, while exploring such themes as the “sacrament” of coffee drinking, living sober, New Orleans’ civil rights history, and the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow in America.

View from the Homer overlook.

This is Scrunch. Likely the biggest bear in the bay. She has an old wound to her nose.

On Day One, we toured around Homer. This is a view from the Homer overlook.

A black bear! Willem spotted our first bear on the coast.

On the right, you can just see a couple other bear watchers tucked into the hillside.
