Symingtons are a long established company traditionally based in Market Harborough and were pioneers in the production of dried and dehydrated convience foods such as soups. This is a mid 1930s recipe booklet issued by them to sell their wares!

The title page from the 1964 "Alphabet", an international annual of letterforms, a magnificent production put together by the highly regarded ICI 'house' printers, the Birmingham based Kynoch Press. It was edited by R S Hutchings and published for them by James Moran and was the only volume of an intended series issued. The right page folds out to reveal the full alphabet.

Some of artist Edward McKnight Kauffer's finest illustrations appear in the 1929 edition of Arnold Bennett's "Elsie and the Child". Published in a limited edition by Cassell & Comapny, La Belle Sauvage, London, it was printed at the Curwen Press the illustrations are amongst some of the finest examples of commercial printing and used hand coloured stencils to produce the colour plates - also known as the pochoir method from the French. One of the plates also appears in the 1931 Curwen Miscellany.

This is research we are doing to determine the style & design of our upcoming book on business model innovation...

In the late 1930s the English City of Leicester's Publicity & Development Department, and the associated Municipal Information Office, produced a very fine set of publications that included an official guide, various leaflets and a series of handbooks such as this. They all exhibit a very modern and 'clean' approach to graphic design, layout and typography and still, nearly a century on, look very stylish. No designers are shown but I've often wondered if the City's noted School of Printing had a hand in their design.

This booklet, price 6d, discusses the various scenes and sights within the city as well as some of the surrounding countryside.
