... we had yesterday. Part of that "bomb cyclone" California was hit with. Churned-up waters bring up a lot of detritus that in the right light looks brown, yellow and gold.

This photo was captured during the spring equinox within only several days after a bomb cyclone moved through Colorado and dumped lots of snow. Views from the San Luis Valley showcase the stark contrast between the sagebrush flats and the abruptly rising Sangre de Cristo Mountains. I never get tired of this view. Thanks for looking!

The morning after the Blizzard of January 2022:
There was a beautiful sunrise and clear skies to follow, making it a nice day for shooting. Temps were still in the teens and the wind was whipping. The power would remain out until just about 1:00 pm today, coming back just in time because the inside house temperature was barley holding above 40 degrees F.

JetBlue Airways Airbus A321-231 N903JB at New York/Kennedy (JFK/KJFK) January 4, 2018. This aircraft returned to the gate due to the heavy snow and wind associated with the winter storm. Kennedy Airport would shut down for the rest of the day around this time. Barely visible behind on Taxiway A is an Etihad A380 which had landed around 10 minutes prior.

. . . This activity is designed for those in the Midwest who are used to terms like Blizzard, Snowmageddon, Polar Vortex, and the latest new ones Bombogenesis, and the Bomb Cyclone!
That's right, when the latest disaster hits us over this weekend, you can entertain yourselves by counting these happy little birds visiting us from the Arctic Circle! The power might be out for days, so have fun!
Have a great weekend Facebook, Flickr, and 500px friends!
The March lion really roared last night as fierce winds blew in from an advancing cold front en route to a form a huge No'reaster, the so-called bomb cyclone. The Accuweather forecast of one to three inches of snow for northern Ohio was blown away by nearly 14 inches, depending on where you measured it. The heaviest single fall of the entire season, and perhaps last year as well. Heavy, sticky, wet snow that was blasted by the wind as if from a snow cannon at a ski resort. I awoke to find incredible scenes in my backyard, putting me in mind of an alpine setting. I wasted no time getting the camera into action. The high sun angle this time of year began melting snow off of the branches before my eyes, and what didn't melt was knocked loose by the wind. Had I delayed even another 30 minutes I would have missed the moment entirely.

I took this on the day of the first real snowstorm of 2018. Just as soon as it ended, they were already cleaning things up. The Bryant Park Fountain was still iced over though.
Yesterday was quite a change from the day before when the temperature was in the upper 60s. The temperature was in the mid 30s and we had snow. The snow as caused by what someone decided was a "Bomb cyclone" which is pushing through Illinois today with winds around 35 MPH and gusts over 45 MPH. Other states; Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Nebraska to name a few could receive up to 24 inches of snow and have blizzard conditions today.
