Anna is the tallest of the five alpacas, and seems to be the boldest. She's often the first to approach when I visit them, probably expecting treats (grain pellets or cracked corn).
These 2 were the boldest of the 4 young siblings, exploring the nearby bushes for berries and playing with one another. Their den is quite a large excavation.

The Palm House is designated a Grade I Listed Building by Historic England with the description: 1844-1848. Designed by Richard Turner engineer of Dublin, with Decimus Burton as architect. Iron and glass, the roof curved throughout. "One of the boldest pieces of C19 functionalism in existence". 362ft long, at the centre 67ft high, and the wings 33ft high. Central oblong chamber with double curved glass roof covering "nave" and "aisles". Apsidal ends. Central entrance to each of long sides, with glass barrel vaults. Galleried interior.
The Palm House was the first greenhouse to be built on this scale. It was also the first large-scale structural use of wrought iron.

The largest and boldest of the common tit species, the Great Tit is an acrobatic and common garden visitor, famous for its incredible repertoire of calls and songs.
A very special morning in a very special place.
I had four gorgeous days of nearly constant low fog and cloud activity on my last Yosemite camping trip. Definitely worth missing a day of class and four days of work and meetings.
I hope this one's a little bit different from what you've come to expect from me, yet somehow familiar, as I continue to explore my passion for capturing reflections under a broad spectrum of conditions and locations. The fog, glassy river water, and dormant trees underneath dramatic morning light really set the mood I hoped to achieve in this image. I have other images from this morning that showcase the breaks and textures in the clouds, the blue patches in the sky...but this one still brings back the best memories for me. I find this intriguing because I normally select an image from a shoot that displays the boldest colors and contrasts, but I enjoyed the muted tones in this one and I'm interested in hearing what you think. Sometimes, less is more, and color's no exception.
For those of you who are looking at the fog and wondering how epic the sunrise at Tunnel View an hour before must have been, well...you will see that very soon :)
As always, I especially welcome thoughtful critique. Have a great week!

I think these anthurium flowers are examples of the boldest flowers there are because of their shape, texture and colours. I got them as a present last week and hope to keep them strong for a while. The green with pink and white one is my favourite.
This lone faded breeding plumage Dunlin was in a small flock of Sanderlings. Some of the Sanderling were in breeding plumage still and looked like large Red-necked Stints. This Dunlin was the boldest bird in the flock. Taken at Lighthouse Park, WA.
One of the things I love about Ireland is how creative they are with the colors of their front doors! Brown or white front doors just don't exist there....they're all painted in the boldest yellows, blues, lilacs, oranges, greens, reds...you name it!

A Morning Walk (James Watkins)
Waking words, swirling sweetly,
Singing in my ears-
Rolling wonders, strong and straight-
Beaconed bright and clear.
Inviting me to wander,
Down to shining shore-
Where convocating castles call,
To open ocean roar.
On the edge of dreaming,
I felt myself fall in-
Down through dangered,
Damaged doors-
Viscous, veiled, and thin.
Forces of reality-
Razored helms of hate-
Shifting, sandy, shapeless shadows,
Slipping through the gate.
Beyond the blackened border,
I gazed at gloried land-
Felt the touch of morning-
Held fast to heaven’s hand.
Poured out on the altar-
Refreshed-refueled I ran-
Head first into battle-
Possessed by present plans.
Suddenly I saw it-
Though fifty three is late-
Fast forward towards forever now-
This dream can hardly wait.
Gathering at the seashore,
The ships by night came in,
And rested casually by the bay,
Protected, proud, and trimmed.
Persevering presences,
Provided none too late,
The moment we were waiting for,
Has finally taken place.
So let this light come forth and shine,
Confusion fading fast-
Let this hope begin to rise,
Let this morning last.
Pure and plain provision,
Coming down the line,
Cutting every corner,
Assimilating time.
Striking down each enemy,
Aroused by fear and haste.
Completely done-
A remnant run-
Compelled by boldest faith.
Sudden change is coming-
Champions will arise-
From victored fields of battle-
Free from compromise.
Balanced on the lightning edge,
Finished and refined-
Its getting near, this much is clear-
Its coming just in time.
Something big, something bold,
Beyond horizon’s floor-
Rising slowly, like the dawn-
Beckoning before.
Prepared by patient promises,
Just around the bend-
We had to wait,
But not too late,
Well worth it in the end.

Acraea terpsicore, Family: Nymphalidae
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acraea_terpsicore
The Tawny Coster (Acraea terpsicore) is a small, 53–64 millimetres (2.1–2.5 in), leathery, winged butterfly which is common in grassland and scrub habitats. It belongs to the Nymphalidae or brush-footed butterfly family. It has a weak fluttery flight. It is avoided by most insect predators.
This species is does not fly high, but seems to keep within 3m of the ground and tends to rest on vegetation in the regions of a meter off the ground. They can be seen in abundance wherever its larval food plant (Passiflora species) is found. The adult tends to avoid dense undergrowth and shady areas, instead keeping to open spaces in all types of vegetation.
The adult flies slowly with weak seemingly unsteady wingbeats. It is one of the boldest butterflies, protected as it is from predators by a nauseous chemical. When attacked it plays dead and exudes an obnoxious yellowish fluid from glands in the joints of the legs. Like all butterflies protected in this manner, Acraea terpsicore has a tough exoskeleton which enables the adult to survive a few pecks of a bird or even the bites of a lizard. Once left alone the adult immediately takes off and resumes its uncaring flight.
When feeding on flowers, this butterfly is unhurried, often spending a long time sitting on the same flower. When sitting it either spreads its wings or closes them over its back the hindwings covering the forewings to a large extent. Sometimes the butterfly will not sit, but rest gently on the flower while feeding, while doing this, to maintain balance, it beats only its forewings while keeping the hindwings completely steady.

Hi Folks! First of all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2011 to all of you. I hope this year brings you joy and lots of nice photographs ;-)
I spent some days in Cologne Germany with the missus to celebrate the turn of the year. Weather was kind of bad (snow, rainy, misty) but fortunately on my last night out I got a chance to make some HQ nightshots. It's THE Cologne cliche shot of the Dom (Cathedral), as seen from across the river Rhine. Many of you must know this particular spot, but this is my take.
I like how the Dom is surrounded by fog and the lightbeams peeking through it.
More nightshots coming up.....For now, enjoy your monday ;-)

Kizhi
in Lake Onega Pogost.
During the ice-free period can be reached from the northern island by boat from Petrozavodsk, Russia.
Kizhi Island is called in German and one Pogost called an administrative unit in old Russia. Today Pogost does "cemetery with a church."
The outstanding building is the 35 meter high Transfiguration, which is crowned with 22 domes. It is regarded as the boldest preserved timber in Russia.
It is attributed to the legendary architect Nestor, who is said to have after completion in 1714 his ax hurled into Lake Onega,
"So one there was never, never get a second and there will never be one," he called allegedly in the process.
Altogether there are about 60 historic wooden buildings in Kizhi.
Very few are in their rightful place, they came from other islands or the mainland.

🎨 Wandering through Le Panier, Marseille’s oldest and boldest district – every wall is a canvas, every alley a story
From graffiti to paste-ups, art peeks out of every corner
☀️ The salty breeze, pastel facades and raw textures breathe life into this Mediterranean maze
Here, street art isn’t decoration – it’s identity. Le Panier is Marseille at its most authentic.
I had a chance to go through my Costa Rica originals from our trip there last January. Here is one I missed. After spending hours in the brambles around the feeders at the LaPaz Waterfall gardens, I was able to get quite close to these beautiful birds as they grew accustomed to my presence. These violet sabrewings were the biggest and boldest of the many varieties there. About 6 or 7 inches long they felt it their duty to chase all the other hummingbirds from the feeders. If you ever get a chance to go to Costa Rica don't miss it. A beautiful place where the people are warm and friendly. This a straight shot with no added color saturation.

Dec. 2011
The new railway station in Mons has been in the news lately. With all the public criticism, I wanted to see it for myself—and maybe capture a few interesting shots. I spent a few hours there on a quiet Sunday morning exploring and documenting this controversial masterpiece.
Designed by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, the project was supposed to cost €37 million and be completed by 2015. It finally opened in December 2024—nearly ten years late—at a final cost of around €480 million.
That kind of spending has raised eyebrows, especially at a time when Belgium is struggling to fund social security and pensions and meet rising defense targets. NATO's 2% of GDP guideline is already a stretch—some even call for 3 or 5%.
The tension between visionary design and financial reality is hard to miss. Whether admired or questioned, Mons station is definitely one of the boldest (and most debated) public works in the country—and a fascinating subject to photograph.
Robins are one of our boldest
and friendliest garden birds,
always quick to investigate new
opportunities.Robin
Erithacus rubecula
Robin. Liz Cutting / BTO
The red breast of adult Robins is instantly recognisable, making this species one of the most straightforward to identify. Juvenile Robins lack the red breast and have brown upper parts and breast speckled with dark brown. Bit by bit, the red breast starts to appear in late summer, but even in juvenile plumage the round shape, long legs and cocked head postures are characteristically 'Robin' in nature. Robins have a delightful musical song, flutey in nature and pitched higher than that of a Blackbird. Being territorial all year-round means that Robin song can be heard throughout the winter months, and Robins can often be heard singing at night throughout the year, prompted by street lighting.

It's been quite a while since I posted a photograph of one of the foxes.
As they have got older, they have become more timid and aware of humans.
Sadly, I do know that one of them was a road fatality a while ago.
I believe that this is the one that was the boldest of the cubs.It would just walk straight towards you, bold as brass, then when it got within a few feet, whoosh it was gone

So a more recent shot using the bag hide. A pair of redstarts are getting used to this strange camouflage lump sat at the base of a tree. The female seems by far the boldest as I'm getting some stuff of the male however he doesn't seem to want to get quite as close.
Great Blue Heron fishing beside the walkway at Delta Ponds, Eugene Oregon. Close to the mall, the walkway has a long bridge where a pond creeps under it, making a small body of water on the other side of the walkway. It tempts the boldest of fishers like this heron. The fishing is good there, but humans are surprisingly close by.

Three photos taken in two different states (California, Oregon +that landmass to the right is Nevada) and one province - British Columbia - all came together into the final picture that carries somewhat important to me message.
