Miranda was enjoying Glow Fair with her friend Jericho (Stranger #179). I was originally attracted by her colourful summer dress and equally colourful hair. I asked Miranda if she would be a willing participant in my strangers' project to which she readily agreed.
Miranda is the sweetest most polite woman you could meet, she has always been interested in Body Art and has had her own Body Piercing business for four years. A single mother, Miranda has been travelling around, however she is now back home in Ottawa in an attempt to get her life in order.
Thank you Miranda it was a real pleasure meeting you, I trust the future is bright for you and your daughter.
This is picture #182 in my second strangers series.

When I shot this picture on my mobile this eminent Sufi monk my mentor head of the Asqan order of the Madarriya Silsila was around 110 years old..
He is Syed Masoom Ali Baba Asqan Madari I first met him during the Urus of Khwajah Garib Nawaz in 2005 I had come on an invitation of late Peersab Fakhru Miya Hujra no 6 I had begun documenting Sufism grassroot Sufism not the elitist Sufism of intellectuals and scholars the subjects were the rafaee silsila monks mendicants fakirs into bodypiercing ..
This was my first trip to Ajmer in 2005 I thought I would document the Chishtiya order but I was also impressed with these dreadhead malangs their seat of spirituality is the Shrine of Zinda Shah Madar Makanpur UP I visited Makanpur in 2013 ..I also shot the Mahakumbh Allahabad in 2013...
The Malangs of the Madarriya order our celibate and grow their dreads that are matted and serpentine the only time they display this in public is diring the Urus and Dhamal at Makanpur.
I am a Shia Muslim but as a photographer I become the religion I shoot not for money just educational awareness ,,Syed Masoom Ali baba initiated me and a Belgian photographer friend as Malangs honorary position I am a married man this was in 2011 and in 2016 I was ordained as a Khalifa of the malang order ,,In 2017 Iwalked 550 km with the Malangs from Delhi to Ajmer a pilgrimage called Chadiyan on a sprained ankle I shot life death ,, it was amazing.. unbelievable I was invited year after year but I could not make it ..my bypass surgery and most of all financial constrains .
This year I was invited by the Qalandaris but I politely refused..the camera was willing but the spirit was weak.
I am in touch with my Murshad on phone but since the pandemic I have not left my city I have taken both the shots and the booster I was invited by the Naga Sadhus for Haridwar Kumbh I did not go and I regret that this year 22June to 26 June I cannot go to Khamakhya Ambubachi mela my Aghor Guru Sri Manikandan has already reached Khamakhya.
I also miss my foreign photographer friends Laurent Salesse Boaz Marc Glenn Losack Francois Prema Goet..but cest la vie.
I am handicapped I need a picture to tell my story or even poeticize my inner angst mind you I am a drop out I had to give up studies take up a job to assist my family but I read a lot of literature self taught myself.
Than I met good friends like you here on Flickr and I continue exploring my digital dreams .
I shot this on a mobile phone ..not a sharp picture but yes it does tell my story..

Shot it at "Gajan Fair".
Gajan a Shaivite folk festival, held on CHAITRA SANGKRANTI (the last day of Chaitra..according to eng calendar ,its in middle of april) and on full moon nights up to the full moon of Asadh. The festival is associated with various gods. There may thus be SHIVA's Gajan, the Gajan of DHARMA THAKUR, the Gajan of Nil etc. But the main object of this festival is to celebrate the marriage of the sun and the earth. The reason for this festival is perhaps to appease the sun and pray for rain during the hot, dry month of Chaitra.
The festival is arranged on the premises of Shiva temples. Those who take part in the festival after making vows are called sannyasi or bhaktya. They take sacrificial food and wear uturi (wrappers). Each one holds a staff. They try to satisfy the god through different acts of penance, such as piercing their tongues with nails, jumping upon thorns, walking on burning charcoal, etc. CHADAK PUJA is performed on the occasion of the Gajan festival. During this festival, processions are brought out from the premises of the temple of Shiva and taken to other villages. A pair of processionists take the roles of Shiva and Gauri and render dances. Other bhaktyas take the roles of Nandi, Bhrngi, ghosts and spirits, monsters and demons and dance along with Shiva and Gauri. During this time different verses are recited narrating the story of how Shiva's sleep was disturbed and going on to his marriage, his agricultural activities etc. This festival usually lasts for three days. During the gajan on Chaitra Samkranti, Kali dances are also performed in some places describing how the goddess slaughtered the monster Asura.

Don't forget that middle-finger Chi-Town Salute...
In case you are not familiar with this ritual, they are trying to capture their own reflected image on the metallic surface of "The Bean."

Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated mostly by the Tamil community on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (January/February). It is mainly observed in countries where there is a significant presence of Tamil community such as India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar.
The word Thaipusam is a combination of the name of the month, Thai, and the name of a star, Pusam. This particular star is at its highest point during the festival. The festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a Vel "spear" so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. There is a misconception among people that Thaipusam marks Murugan's birthday; however, it is believed that Vaikhasi Vishakam, which falls in the Vaikhasi month (May/June), is Murugan's birthday.
