This is me wearing a funny tee that says "keep staring... maybe I'll do a trick." I created the design for the shirt... but the actual idea was inspired by a similar one I saw someone wearing at a festival. I changed it up a bit to give it a touch of my own :)
I saw Jamie sitting in the window of a local Starbucks chatting to a friend. went in and complimented him on his style and asked if he would allow me to take his picture for my '100 Strangers' project. Jamie was very obliging and we had a chat about Punk Goths and Steam Punk. What a really great very polite chap.This picture is no 66 in my 100 strangers project. Ho ho ho - Have a Happy Holiday! A friend took this of me a few days after my 80th Birthday. She provided nose rings for me and five friends to help us celebrate the occasion. Ostrich feather and curved scars on right shoulder indicate tribal respect and possibly the killing of an enemy from another tribe. Other adornments include Warthog (wild boar) ivory tusks. Mursi settlement near Mago River in Ethiopia's lower Omo Valley.
The Mursi live in small settlements dispersed across a territory of about thirty by eighty kilometres between the Omo and Mago Rivers in southwest Ethiopia. The terrain varies from a volcanic plain dominated by a range of hills and a major watershed to riverine forest, thorny bushland thicket and wooded grassland. The climate is harsh and instable with low rainfall and daily temperatures often exceeding 40°C during the dry season. They depend on a traditional mix of subsistence activities for their livelihood: hoe-cultivation (mostly drought-resistant varieties of sorghum but also some maize, beans and chick-peas) and cattle herding. Today, the Mursi number less than ten thousand.

Venice Beach attracts Pit Bull owners to go there to parade their dogs. There are also lots of tattoo parlors, so here are two of the popular items.
I shot this from the hip. Strap wrapped around my wrist, holding the camera on my right side with the finger on the trigger. All the shots are in portrait mode as this is how I am holding the camera. This was really my first experiment doing this. I used my 10-22 lens at 10, to improve the chance that the subject is in the frame, as sometimes I was not even looking at my camera when shooting. Many images had a usable subject in the frame. Exposure is at 500 as I am walking around and don't get to steady the camera before shooting. This resulted in a shallow DOF, which is unfortunate as the autofocus sometimes missed the subject. Some people recommend setting a manual focus at a good distance, but that didn't work well for me. I set the camera in high speed shooting, but found myself pressing the shutter only once. The noise of the camera is a definite minus as it attracts the attention of subject that happen to be looking at you. The low angle is a plus for many shots as it creates an unusual and interesting image.
Processed the single raw image in Photomatix at a high setting an lots of saturation. Removed noise with Imagenomic and then enhanced HDR-look effect in PS with a layer in overlay blending mode. Applied curves and high pass filter for sharpenning.
