after taking a long drink at the bird bath, a wildcat stretches before heading out for the day

The bobcat (Lynx rufus) is the most common wildcat found within Point Reyes National Seashore. ... They are most commonly found in the coastal scrub, grasslands, riparian lowlands and meadows bordered by forests.

It seem's people photograph Bobcat's all the time in the city but I've never made a connection. I saw this one west of Longview along highway 541. Poor photo's but a lifer for me.

My first Bobcat sighting! Only got a few shots off through the car window before it up and strolled away but very exciting anyway

Bobcats are fairly common predators in California's natural habitats, including areas of low-density human habitation. This apparent female includes our property as part of her territory, in this case walking nonchalantly by a window and then to a garden wall where this shot was taken. Deer Canyon, Arroyo Grande, California.

Bobcats are medium-sized carnivores in the cat family. There are about 2000 bobcats in the state of Minnesota currently. Other two wild feline species that roam in this northern state are a cougar and a lynx, although rare. All these cats are extremely shy of humans and are seldom seen. Bobcats pose no threat to humans and like this one, when I first noticed him rolling on his back on the gravel road, closely resemble an oversized housecat. My heart skipped a few beats in joy as I realized it was indeed a gorgeous, elusive bobcat and not someone's oversized housecat!

From Minnesota DNR page:

"The bobcat is a valuable furbearer and is both trapped and hunted--usually with hounds--for its fur."

Sad words. The only one who really needs his valuable fur is the bobcat himself. His life depends on it.

Bobcat - Don't let the fence fool you. There was NO fence between myself and this juvenile male bobcat. In fact, I had to move off of the path because this handsome beast was walking right towards me. He had no fear of me what so ever. Not sure that is a good thing...

We had a most amazing experience with this big male bobcat last week while we were visiting Point Reyes National Seashore. We observed him for more than 30 minutes. When we first sighted him, he was far out in the middle of a field. While we watched, he came quite close and hid in the grass at the edge of the trail. After taking a number of shots we decided to move on down the trail and let him be. But he had a different plan. He casually followed us down the trail, moved around us through the deep weeds nearby and then appeared in front of us on the trail again. He looked back at us, marked his territory and then pranced away. He let us know that we were using HIS trail! At no time did he seem distressed by us...just perhaps a bit annoyed.

Bobcats hunt by stalking their prey and then ambushing with a short chase or pounce. Living in the north they mainly eat snowshoe hares but also regulate rodent population which helps to prevent disease outbreaks and reduce the need for rodenticides. Bobcat is another top predator which has an important role in keeping the ecosystems in balance!

This one eyed bobcat lived around my friend's butterfly garden for a while. There was a field next door and it would sit on the dirt road waiting for rats to run across. Seems like a way to deal with the lack of depth perception.

Certainly not a high quality shot but one for documentation. Lately, we have been seeing bobcat tracks in the snow in and around our neighborhood, including on our back patio. My husband got lucky earlier in the week as he was leaving to hike for the day and saw this beauty walking around neighborhood, seeking refuge from the wind under a large pine tree. Then, as we were finishing up our dinner the other night, I caught a glimpse of it again across the street from our house. I grabbed the camera and headed outside in the snowstorm to capture a few shots. I liked this one as it paused to look at me for just a few seconds before continuing on to its evening resting space. We have also captured it on our trail cam several times as it comes and goes on its travels.

Enjoy your weekend!!!
