We made a quick trip to Rocky Mountain National Park the past couple of days. Just before sunset on our first day we spotted this bobcat. This was a first for me.
Been awhile since I've seen the Bobcats, but finally saw one yesterday and took several shots of him. I spent a bit of time one on one then left for an hour and returned. He was still in the general area looking for prey. I had other obligations and had to leave. He tried a few times to grab prey but was unsuccessful. Next time! Click for large view.
As Rene and I were looking for a place to set up for sunset shots I glanced to my right and saw a Bobcat! I hurried and swung my camera and shot out the window. Didn't even pay attention to my settings so was glad I could adjust the lighting to show this beauty off!
Poor mom! I wanted to get closer but I did not want to disturb what was going on here. Such a treat to watch!

I had an awesome bobcat sighting yesterday. This bobcat was out hunting and caught a shrew. It played with the shrew by throwing it up in the air and batting it with its paws. It then rolled around in the grass with the shrew before eating it. Such an entertaining sighting. I have pics of the action, but I need to photoshop them a bit because it was in the distance!

Just got lucky this morning.. It happened pretty fast..I had just walked into the entrance and was looking for warblers. I noticed something looked different in the big tree behind the firebush on the right...two bobcats were laying on a limb.. I quickly tried to focus and realized my settings were all wrong. They were getting up...I made a few changes and starting clicking away. They climbed down the tree and went back into the woods. Thanks for stopping by.
For years and years, I've looked for the opportunity to observe and photograph bobcats. My running joke was that there were no bobcats in Florida, notwithstanding all the wonderful photographs of them other photographers were publishing. Well, not for lack of putting in some serious hours, I have some bobcat shots. This morning, mom brought her kittens out to presumably go on a hunt with her. That was at about 7:45am. Then they were gone. After spending several hours in the morning hoping for their return, I came back in the afternoon with hopes of a homecoming. It was not to be. Not complaining, I'm happy to finally have had the opportunity I've been striving for. No anticlimax this.
I traveled all the way from Florida to California in a failed attempt to photograph Bobcats. We, of course, have them in Florida. Recently, a family of Bobcats has taken up residence at a local wildlife refuge, and as such, is more tolerant of humans than would otherwise be the case. I only had a few days to try to get some images any only got lucky twice on several attempts. This one's my favorite.

I was photgraphing a Hawk perched in a tree above when this Bobcat ran right in front of me. It paused for a few moments before entering the tall grass in pursuit of a rabbit. A few minutes later, the rabbit came out and the Bobcat remerged even closer to me. By the time I switched back from the Hawk to the Bobcat, I only photographed the back of its head that second time around.
Looks like this male bobcat has a bad temper but it was just facing the heavy winds that evening… Northern California
One of my best bobcat encounters so far, met this young female just after sunset and she allowed me to spend a few moments with her...a magic encounter! Northern California
The more I looked at the image I posted of the Bobcat with the Iguana the more I wanted to present a different look. I wanted to keep all of the Iguana's body and claws but after further reflection felt that they distracted from the eyes of the creatures, my favorite part of the image. So here's a more closely cropped version, sans claws but to me more intimate and compelling.
Finally saw the Bobcat in person.
Made my day! He/She roams Circle B Bar Reserve, and today was my first encounter. It was tough to get a good photo, cause I was pretty excited.
My second bobcat i saw climbing a tree. I spent almost an hour with that male bobcat...he was hunting, marking his territory and out of a sudden he climbed that small tree, paused for a while and continued his way, and all that in the beautiful evening light! Northern California
One of these magic encounters with a female bobcat at dusk. Just heard the news that Point Reyes NPS decided to continue with their plan to extend ranching and industrial agriculture inside the park and therefore is going to kill hundreds of native tule elk! The effects on all other wildlife will be terrible!!! Hope that there is still a chance of protecting this unique place…KEEP POINT REYES WILD
