It was too quiet. Four planes flew off in formation. Where were the other two? One was coming from behind me at 500 knots. I turned around and saw it just as it was practically right on top of me. Lucky shot! The roar of an F/A-18 flying only 100 feet above you is soul-stirring.

This one-of-a-kind vehicle will be sold at the Gathering of Eagles charity auction Thursday, July 28, during the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) 2011 AirVenture Oshkosh, the world's greatest aviation celebration.
