The Blue Lakes are located in a glacial basin in southwest Colorado in the Mount Sneffels Wilderness. A gorgeous alpine hike with wildflower-filled meadows, and impressive views . There are three lakes in the basin - the middle and upper have the best views

This shot is with flash. The next is without and I can't decide which I like better. It looks like he is smiling in a smug sort of way.

This is a view of my little village of Granville Ferry, Nova Scotia, as I walk across the causeway to the larger town of Annapolis Royal (pop. 750). The road along the water, through Granville Ferry, is one of the oldest in the country, originally providing a path for Indian trappers to bring their beaver pelts to the French fort at Port Royal. In 1605, Samuel de Champlain helped establish Port Royal (at the end of this peninsula) representing one of the earliest European attempts at settlement in North America.

There was a serious effort by the Canadian government in the 70's to make this area a northern version of the popular tourist attraction, Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia (since we're older and prettier). However, it seems we're too far off the main tourist routes and probably too eccentric to have made the transition and the effort, fortunately, petered out after a decade or so. Annapolis Royal underwent a lot of restoration during that decade and acquired a number of interesting "attractions", like our Historic Gardens, which later reverted to the townspeople. We were left in peace and quiet to enjoy a town that the UN voted a few years ago as "the most livable small town on the planet".
