Mattresses have been around for hundreds of years. They have changed and developed through the centuries. Below is a guide as to how modern day mattresses differ to those slept on by our ancestors.
Neolithic Period:
The mattress began 10,000 years ago, all the way back in the Neolithic Period where the first bed and mattress was created. Beds being raised off the ground to avoid drafts, dirts and anything that might bother you in the night. The first mattress probably consisted of a pile of leaves, grass and possibly straw covered over with animal skins.
3600/3400 BC:
Then we move onto BC, where in 3600BC in Persia beds were made out of goat skins filled with water. Then later in 3400BC, Egyptian Pharaohs discovered the benefits of raising a pallet off the earth, and therefore King Tutankhamun had a bed of ebony and gold, however common people generally slept on palm bows heaped into a corner of their home.
