More bits of my childhood are sneaking out this summer, these little guys included. Although more or less I found them as a child while running through the grass, this one was spotted in a bush just chillen out in the shade. Harsh sunlit ruined any chance that I thought I had to get a shot of his flasher going off, even with the shades close the sun wouldnt allow it. So I kept the shades open and let this little guy mess around on the newspaper, every once and a while Id flip him over just to get a better perspective. Using my wireless flash triggers also worked to my advantage as I kept changing there position...once at what seemed like every angle. Eventually I found that placing at a 45 degree angle camera left with myself directly overhead said bug was the best light. I should no doubt have taken more shots but eventually let him be free outside in a new bush with a bit more shade.
As a child I remember my father washing out empty peanut butter jars, large size Jiff at that: creamy style (as is the best). Drilling holes thru the lid and in the sides so the bugs would have room to breathe. Taking a handful of grass (with a little dirt included) Id unscrew the lid and plop it in. There were many ways to catch the flasher bug, my favorite way was to wait til one was close to ground level and tip the jar horizontal and run full speed at them. Although it wasnt the most effective, it did get a lot the mosquitos riled up and get myself plenty of itchy spots. Dad was more graceful, gently reaching his hands into the air and grabbing them with cupping motion, only to open his hand breifly to show his hostage before dropping into my jar. Alas child no more, but grown man I am: These bugs are quite a reminder for sure.

Looks good on LCD preview but upon scrutiny on my laptop was not so sharp :-(
Any one know how to select focus point and increase DoF while on iA mode?

But getting better already.
As some of you know, Rocco is Mr.Runaway.
Yesterday, during the end of the afternoon walk he ran of again in the woods and just came home 1 1/2 hour later than Willem and Pr1mo did.
After 1 hour he started to act funny, his eyes became huge and he started trembling. It didn't stop and after some time he started to throw up too. Don't know what he had been eaten but it was a lot and it wasn't good. Could prevent him from eating it again, sometimes he does that when he throws up.
The throwing up thing was the signal to take action, we called the vet and we could come immediately. He got some fluid and a medicine to sleep and stop the trembling. The vet gave us another bottle for during the night but when we came home, the dripping from the bottle had stopped and we couldn't get it going again. Back to the vet, it was 12 o'clock at night and she already had left. But she lives around the corner and was there within minutes.
The trembling started again, she gave him some extra medicines and did get the fluid dripping into his veins again. Last night we've let him sleep inside the house, me on the couch next to him. Didn't get much sleep, just a couple of hours.
Today he was fine, considering the circumstances, he drank, he peed and was hungry. That's a good sign, when Rocco's not hungry, there is something seriously wrong. Looking at it he was lucky he was inside the house and we did go that fast to the vet.
It's going to be alright with him, he can't be missed for a long time, so we're happy he's still with us.

This is a Millers Falls no 182 bit brace, originally made for corner work. As almost always, this item misses it's extendable handle. This brace is in good condition with only slight loss of nickel plating. We can all agree that the small fidgety pawls that sets the direction of the ratchet mechanism isn't the easiest to use. But having used more than twenty different bit braces, this one has one of the best chucks I've seen. The Leland universal jaws will swallow absolutely everything you feed it with and it will grip it tight. Top handle features very nicely spinning ball bearings. A quality bit brace.
